Still in trial stage, Hull is F/Glass unidentified (Orange Hull ) posted late last year.
Whilst in St. Lucia last autumn I saw a sport boat of a simular shape named 'Kika', hence I found a use for the hull. initial runs show a fair turn of speed and I now have to figure out how to tow a model water skier which would complete the picture. (Motor: Old 600 Type) (ESC: M'Tronics) (8/10)

Paint problems
I'm In the process of restoring a 34" Fireboat that I acquired off ebay.
Unfortunately when trying to spray on an acrylic primer I'm getting an adverse reaction In that the new paint Is bubbling / crackling In some areas. I have no Idea what the original paint was although It looked to have been brushed on.
Any Ideas please for a suitable protective and Inert primer / undercoat that I could use to stop this reaction.
Many thanks
Chris

HI Roger I'm Chris's wife writing this. We are both confused and wondered if you could help. We are looking for a club or even a lake near to where we now live. We are in Manningtree on the Essex/Suffolk border. The post code is CO112HN. Neither of us can find any info on this site!
It's slow progress for Chris as his stoke was severe. He is in a home with help and hopefully one day we shall be able to take him out in his wheelchair. He now has all his model boats with him so we keep positive that they'll feel the water once again.
We are hoping for help as Chris's left hand is still not working.
Thanking you and best wishes from Chris & Annie

I've managed to cobble together the Leeboard Winches from various drawings and pic's on the net, plus an assortment of old gear wheels and chopped & reshaped garden irrigation bits to replace the missing parts.
Then after looking at many barge pic's had an inspiration of using 'Nail Art' transfers of gold scrolls ( thank god for e-bay! ) to replicate the common barge decoration. I thing this is realistically just another way of delaying getting down to the black art of the rigging!!

π More delays, but a little progress!

My build has been a bit on hold due to replacing garden ponds, repairing shed roofs and concreting a space for three new wheely bins the council have decided we should now have! however it's slowly progressing, the decking is finished and painted, the hatch covers covered with tissue and painted to suggest green canvas, and a couple of winches built.
I think if I'm honest I'm putting off the rigging and fiddly winch construction ( see pics of components ) as the instructions Speedline supply are not extremely clear to my aging brain, mainly small photocopies of the original HFM plans with little in the way of description. Also my finger dexterity is not what it was!!
However onwards and upwards.

HI Roger
I'm having simular thoughts, I've already moved it 5mm further to the stern than the kit plan suggested, but I do have the original hatch cover option as plan 'B' if the cabin proves to inhibit the mainsail horse.
All delayed a bit as garden pond has sprung a leak!!!

I got fed up of waiting for the replacement rudder servo tray so fabricated one from scrap plastic and arranged the rudder linkage. I've also finished the plank effect on the deck with 0.6 x 3mm beech strip and started to construct the aft cabin.

Note: the 'BIC' temporary tensioning device staightening the main mast!

HI Alan
I'm not caulking as such, I'm just cementing 0.6 x 3mm Beech strip onto the plastic deck to simulate planking. Thames barges almost always had their decks painted rather than varnished, so I'm hoping the paint will make it look fairly authentic when eventually done.

I've been waiting for the rudder servo tray from Speedline for a couple of weeks ( perhaps they're on holiday ), which was missing from the kit so am doing odd bits whilst waiting. This time the Bowsprit and it's mounting and I've made a start to planking the deck.

HI Roger
Yes the Speedline Kit is basically a reworked version of the old HFM model with a few alterations. My Dog did in fact come via Mastman the Man & Boy were boot sale finds, I suspect there is a Harry Potter type resemblance to the boy and maybe a Super Mario connection to the Captain.

HI All
Just to add my 5 penneth, I recently bought a simular fan cooled ESC from ' hittime_3c ' ( they had 98.9 positive feedback ), it did cost a little more at Β£9.52 but arrived in just under 3 weeks here in Dorset and works well driving 2 x 400 brushed motors.
