So, while I was waiting for the varnish to dry on the Seguin, I started the Lobster boat.
I just like the lines. I had a couple of lobster boats in the marina I managed in CT. Similar style.
Easy Build. Called the success Series by Midwest. That means I should be able to do it? 🤞
Began coating the interior with epoxy.

Ron - it tends to be used instead of CA not aliphatic which I use a lot as well as Titebond III. It's the CA that tends to be a problem for a lot of folks.

    Thanks for the info, Ron.
I do like to use Titebond III when I have the time to let it dry.
The CA works well when I am planking, because it sets up so fast. I don't know how I would do it with slower setting glues.

“ How long does it take for Super phatic glue to set?
The problem with regular aliphatic glues (carpenter’s or white glues) is that is does not wick into tight joints and it takes hours to setup. Super Phatic is thin enough to wick but stronger than CA and setup to a working state in about 20 minutes at 74 degrees.

Never used it but might on next build. I generally build with Titebond III

Can't remember how quick it dries, I'll have to try some out! Been a few months since I've done any building, before our summer and I've started painting the hulls now.

Trouble is with my builds I have long periods of inactivity and forget how I do things! Fortunately I photograph my progress and use for reference on other builds!

    Hi Chris,
I should have stated my experience with many U.S. sailboats have curved planking and
    Mahogany speed boats have straight.
Does the Super Phatic dry as fast as CA?

    Thanks Trev

I've planked three decks using very thin i.e. 0.5 x 5mm planks (and managed to stick my fingers to the deck and to themselves 😠 using CA) but on my next build wanted to try thicker planks.

I might be wrong but I thought yachts generally had straight planking and other boats had curved but there are always exceptions. My Fairey sports cruisers etc. all being curved.

I have problems with CA as well, causes my nose to run, and have started using Super Phatic which has the benefit of being water wash up as well as being low odour.

I try not to use CA glue. The fumes of certain brands are worse than others. I have discovered LePages puts out a larger container than Gorilla and the fumes are less. Generally when using it, the windows are open and an exhaust fan is on before closing the door and leaving the shop.

    Hi Chris.
I used Basswood from Midwest on eBay.
It is 1/8 by 1/16th thick.
I lucked out, I did not have to steam it.
Just held it tight and applied thin CA to where it meets the deck, trying not to glue my fingers in the process. Not always successful.

    Thanks Ron.
In my experience most work boats did not have planked decks.
I addition the curved decking is more common on sail boats.
I am planning to plank the cockpit deck using the same Bass Wood that I used on the Main deck. Or I could use Mahogany?
Thanks for the pics and the detail, they are very useful, he did a great job.
His access panel for the rudder is great. I was just thinking about that today.
I would have to do some surgery though🤔
I did use CA for the decking on all my boats. It speeds things along. But there is a price to pay, as far as glued fingers. No Pain no Gain.😂🤣😮

Very nice work. I was looking at the link I sent earlier, it is interesting that some boats have planked decks as you are doing and others were not. Will you be planking the deck where the passengers sit? What type of wood are you using to plank the hull deck?

The passage way between the forward cabin and deck is accessed via a door. If, you intend to do that, it is easier now than later.

I really should add the planking to the main deck too. The man who built the model used cherry to plank the deck. CA glue, sticking fingers together and I figure by the time the deck was done, he’d had enough.

To access the rudder, he made the aft deck removable via a hidden hatch. A small nylon latch rotates to lock the hatch in place. Accessed under deck be removable rear seat.

Note: weights were added in the stern for ballast to counter the forward mounted motor. Two batteries were used , placed below the floor via hatch. One each side os stuffing box.

The white rope on aft is for towing the pram.

Hi Trev - what thickness of planks are you using and are you having to steam them to form the curve?

    Hi Ron
    The motor is brushed.
It is part of the power package that Midwest put out for some of its boats.
i intend mine to run as a normal work boat.

What type of motor is in there, brushed or brushless? My Lobster Yacht runs on a brushed motor as she rides the waters in a stately manner.

I know there are lobster boat races but mine is not one that joins in such activities.

This is my Lobster Boat at present.
a couple of changes to the plan, as this was intended, by Midwest, to be a static model.
    1.Operating Foward Windows.
    2.Operating Foward Hatch.
3.Removable rear deck to access the rudder.
4.Removable cabin Roof to access the servos and Batt.
She just needs bottom Paint, and installing the electronics.
    And, Yes She Floats😮😮😂🤣
