Iโve just found your blog, what a brilliant job you are doing, what a difference. The detail you are achieving is remarkable. How is the build coming along?

I keep looking at one of these, maybe!!!! At least you have all the bits to make copies of should be fairly simple if time consuming
Good luck with the re-ferb ▲

Hi there i use a heat gun and a scraper to strip the paint off in this case it was easy to do but in other cases it might not be easy to do. cliff

Hi cliff
If you have already covered there is not much you can do, except perhaps make sure you seal the inside in the same way you sealed the hull. I have left them in in previous restorations but water always gets to them in the end. ▲

If those are nails/pins I can see on the hull I suggest you remove them all before you cover all over. if you don't they will rust when they get wet and spoil all your work.

Hi Cliff, just read your post, with the specially ordered props i would be inclined to be belt and bracers by dimpling the shaft for the grub screw to fit into, not just a flat (from an engineering point of view) ... looking good

Hi cliff
Now I understand. it's always interesting to see how other modellers connect their drive shafts and I hope this solution works for you. The model is looking good and the detail will certainly add to the character. As you are making most of the fittings I do hope you will keep posting your progress. Dave ▲

Hi cliff
How are you going to attach the props to the shaft? Normally if the prop shaft has a plain and threaded end, the threaded end goes to the prop with a locknut and thrust washer, The other end inside the boat has a thrust washer and a collett with grub screw(s). Dave ▲

Hi Cliff
I hope the single grub screw will hold. The prop will create quite a strong flywheel effect. Good luck Dave ▲

Hi cliff
Yes the the first 8 004 to 011 had sliding doors and a vertical steering wheel, 012 & 013 are not listed and the series ended with 014 to 016 with the hinged oval doors and seated steering positions. They were all based on the MKII Oakley so this may be the basis for your designation. 48014 was Lady MacRobert based at Montrose 1972 to 1989 48015 was Hugh William Viscount Gough based at Stornoway 1973 to 1984 then Barra island 84 to 88 and finally Dunbar 88 to 93 48016 was Douglas Currie based at Kirkwell 74 to 75, Macduff 75 to 84, Fraserburgh 85, Portpatrick 86 to 89, Workington 90 to 92. To be correct any one of the last three would be OK Cheers Dave ▲

Hi Maaroa
Now that you are getting to the detail work, have you decided which Solent Lifeboat your model will based on? There were only four that had the opening type door that Aerokits based their model on. The others had a sliding door entry to the cockpit. Looking nice and ship shape and beautiful wood work. I'm attaching a pic of my Solent. Dave ▲
