So this will be a Cygnus SF 33. It’s a modelsbydesign hull 12th scale. I have a set of plans of a GM33 that my dad fitted out many years ago (now in Scarborough - CJ Lewis).

So I have glassed the engine bed in and lined the shaft through.
I have also added a lot of cement to bring the hull down to the waterline.
Electrics are all in and the internal will now be given a coat of tile paint to seal everything in.
The only part of the build I will not make this time is the wheelhouse which has now arrived from Andy @ modelsbydesign. His Cygnus mould is perfect for the one on the plans. I have shown it on here with the start of the foredeck which will be made in the plasticard and the sealed with resin.

Good point, will keep it to a thin coat, almost paint it on but it will allow me to rub it back to make the join seamless..

First coat of paint on the hull, offered up the whaleback and wheelhouse to see how it fits. Deck now fits but need to cut the hatch before glueing.

I have scratch built the trawl winch using a mix of metal washers, bolts, cut Allen keys, wood and plasticard. Sprayed with a Spencer Carter / North Sea winch blue. Further detail will be added in the shape of hydraulic pipes and branding.

The main hatch is held down currently by the weight of the winch, it seems to be ding the job mainly due the the steel washers being used as brake drums! I intend to put a raised hatch in the large hatch for access to the switches. Previously I have put a screw through the deck into a cross beam and then hidden by painting the same colour as the deck and covering with fish boxes as an example...

Before anything else is fitted I have painted the hull below the waterline. I have used a Hammerite metal paint. A nice small tin which was more than enough! Work has also started on the gantry!

I am building this from wood and have used the drawings to get measurements plus have spoken to a local skipper to check the setup and construction. You will see on one of the legs I have cut out a groove. I did this with a previous model and it is to contain the wires for the lights. Once the wires are in I will apply a filler over the top and rub down. The wires will go though a hole in the deck under the leg where it will be rigged up to a battery.
