My next project has been a request from a local fisherman who after seeing my other models has asked me to make one of his. My father put the engines in the boat when it was first built. Julie Jean works from the beach at Dungeness. I am going to make the hulls from scratch as I can not find a catamaran hull with the right hull shape. This will be made from board and then coated in glass and resin. Scale will be metric 5cm - 1 m so total length will be 50cm..some photos here of the boat

Well I have started tracking the plans down and have managed to find the yard that now has the rights to the plans. Hopefully after the bank holiday they will contact me..

Bilge line is a bit off as well.
But surely given the "base" plan from MB mag neither is so far different as to prevent you from modifying / scaling that plan to suit? Especially if you can scan it into a half decent drawing program! I did something similar for Krampus a while back just using jpg and pdf formats then.
Nowadays I can use Corel Draw Tech Suite or Designer which makes such things much easier ๐Ÿ˜‰

Go on Graham - Give it a go๐Ÿ‘
Can't 'old me breff too much longer!
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Probably this one, but as you can see the rake of the bow is not right.

I'm sure there were a set of plans for a catamaran work boat in model boats magazine not to long ago.๐Ÿ‘

The Romney Marsh Mountain Rescue club might help out with the hills.

Very interesting project. I'm sure I saw a model catamaran work boat, probably on our lake, recently, I must look out for it and see how he has done things. On thinking about it, it may have been at an open day.

    Best of luck with it.

"Will be RC. Thatโ€™s what I am going to have to work out, ..."
Excellent, good to hear๐Ÿ‘ Looking forward to the equipment fit.
"joining the hills shouldnโ€™t be too hard.... ๐Ÿคž "
Perhaps a tad more difficult than joining the hulls!!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ
Anyway, there aren't any hills within miles of Dungeness.
Now around Folkestone that's another kettle of fish ....!
Used to play in the hills north of the town as a kid.
About where the Chunnel entrance now is I suppose, all concreted overโ˜น๏ธ
We were BMXing there before BMXs were invented!
Best of luck with your project๐Ÿ‘

    Very interesting project Graham,
Will be following with interest, especially how you connect the two hulls.
Two boats in one! Quite a job for scratch-building.
But I'm sure, from what I've seen of your boats, that you're up to the challenge๐Ÿ‘
Will it be static or RC?

I spent a day at sea to understand the gear and get lots of measurements. The boat is fishing for whelks currently and after hauling and shooting 200 pots we had just under 500 kilos!

Hi Graham, have you got plans for this boat? I believe
Models by Design have a twin hull craft very similar to this, might be worth a look๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    Hi Graham
I bet you thoroughly enjoyed your day out.
It certainly gives you a better understanding of the subject that you are about to build.
It's also good that you are able to take measurements and photos of the real thing.

Plans created and I have started to build the hull which is being constructed from plastiboards.
The intention is to make a plug so I can do my first ever mould!

Shape getting there, a few more layers of plaster and sanding to do yet before starting to take a mould off it.

Three fills and sands later and the plug is glued to the board and has had a coat to resin to seal it. Now to try and get a mould!!

It is well worth spending time to make that mould as perfect as possible before you make your first hull.

A Lochin 33 is currently on the bench being completed for a man in Cornwall
