Excellent work Umi π
Beautiful brass work, seems almost a shame to cover it up with paint! Cheers, Doug π ▲

I drilled out the corners, and gnawed the straight edges out using a utility knife.
Soldering I am usually at about 600Β° I clean the parts, place some flux, and put a bit of solder on the iron tip, then touch it to the joint and let solder flow into place. I use silver solder for major components, and electrical solder for small quick joints. The decals are Micromark Paper. Arial font. I took a large brand stripe off the USCG website, and copied it, and placed and reversed the logo for each side of the boat. . ▲

What temperature setting did you find works best without discoloring the brass? Did you use a silver solder, or just general purpose plumbers solder?

Umi,
Looks like the top and foredeck are the place to start. Do you do your cutouts with a moto tool? I have seen two different color schemes...one the cabin is white, the other is aluminum.......Did you make your decals on testors decal paper? If so what font? Ariel Rounded MT Bold? What scale/size is the racing stripe and logo? ▲

Umi, you really amaze me, nice work. Just wondering, do you use a standard soldering iron or a resistance unit? Your soldering is just top notch.

Right now just studying the plans to determine future needs and plan of action. There are no real written instructions, just a couple of pages of diagrams. Thinking of changing motors to brushless.

BTW...after transfer to the Coast Guard her designation became USCGC Chilula (WMEC-153). The WMEC stands for all Weather Medium Endurance Cutter.

I created all the extra parts, and made molds and cast the number I needed.
Most people making this conversion, so far, have used my parts, and decals. The railing and the mast I don't provide, and are all custom brass. The mast base is made to fit the Harbor Models working radar. . . ▲

I will have a look at that. Have you found any particular adhesive, and filler that works best for styrene?

Yep, I cut it out and replaced it with a piece of ABS/styrene along with filler to blend it in to the deck. Was quite easy to cut out actually. Just did some deep cuts with an x-acto knife and popped it out.
