I thought I started a blog and it wound up in media gallery?/ at any rate... I have broken out my Chris Craft Catalina to build. I will be making her static and doing up the interior as well as adding LED lighting. These are a few pics of the start of the build.

That is one sturdy looking hull BW, Bullet proof๐Ÿ‘
... and now I know who nicked all my mini-clamps which vanished after the last workshop 'sort out'. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜
Be a shame not to see her in her element but 'Each to his own' I guess.

You are off to a great start.
If you made her ready for radio control but did not fit any you then have a good start if you change your mind later.

So now some new pics... I had some mahogany strips and skin laying around so I decided to cover the cabin sides, decks, and aft roof with them. Any other parts that are balsa I stain with Minwax Sedona Red stain. The decks will then be varathaned with clear coat satin and the house will be varathaned with semi gloss. Stern will also be semi gloss.

I use Famowood filler for shaping out the hull, then will use Zap finishing rezin and one ounce fiberglass cloth to glass her. I have ordered all her lighting (LED) from Evan Designs.

Soooo..today's progress. I marked and taped the deck beams to the underside of the foredeck. As this is the galley..I wanted to paint the ceiling an off white. The markings match the beams so that when I glue the deck down it gets good purchase. Then I opened up the forward hatch. Last pic shows another coat of semi gloss on cabin parts. Note upper right I cut out, laminated with mahogany strips and stained the fwd cabin windows. ttyl...

OK....so...as you know it is 1/3 thinking, 1/3 redoing, and 1/3 progress. I stained the three sides of the roof struts, fiberglassed the hull, epoxied the interior, cut out the fwd bulkheads for the galley, cut out the portholes and didn't like them so redid them. Made the interior cabin sides and tried a dry fit. I tried the fwd cabin windows, but they were not big enough?? so made a new set. not in pics.

As you can see I have opened up the fwd galley area, puttied the hull smooth, and painted it white. . I have added the wiring in prep for lighting. I have also started to build the galley. All dry fit not glued yet. Note the floor and bulkheads of the main salon are removable to gain access for the galley build etc. Once all is in place it will be glued. Stay tuned.... thanks for watching

The Catalina was on the back burner for a while. Life and spring keep me busy around the house. But....here is an update. Just starting to put cabin top etc together. I have also been working on my Jules Verne, Chris Craft Corvette and Tugboat.

I worked on the cabin top and mouldings that extend down the helm on each side. Now to fit the forward windows and then epoxy the roof before paint.

The decks are just mahogany planks then 6 coats of Satin varathane. The house is mahogany with Semi-gloss varathane. The interior and inside cabin walls etc which are balsa all were stained with Minwax wood finish "Sanora Red". This is the best to get as close to mahogany colour as you can. The wood filler is "Famawood" - the best out their.. it does not shrink or crack, can be stained etc.
