This is actually last year's build. These ships were built in the hundreds in Canada and the UK, even some in the States where they morphed into the Victory class.

This one is from Marine Modelling plans in 1:96 scale, plank on frame, mostly in wood but with some styrene in the superstructure.

The planked hull was coated with epoxy on the inside before filling and sanding the outside (I use automotive Bondo). Once everything was fair and smooth, I applied a couple of coats of thinned epoxy to the outside of the hull and then sanded some more.

I cut the deck frames, and glued some to the hull frames. I like to have the deck removable (my hand are too big to fit into small spaces) so I planned the deck in three sections, depending on superstructure layout, etc. Some deck frames were glued directly to the underside of the removable decks.

Everything got sprayed with Tremclad grey primer, and then red oxide for the bottom and medium grey above the waterline.

    I'll add more later.

Yes - they are all based on the North Sands design. The Americans went to welded construction, and changed the superstructure, but they are all very similar.

    Hi Doug
Nothing, would have been a good project.
Just got interested in the Brave and other launches

    Thanks Rowen,๐Ÿ‘
Thought there was something familiar about it.
    What stopped you building one?
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Very nice build. Almost built one too a few years ago.
From my research the hull is essentially a rivitted Liberty ship, but with more a more typical British superstructure and holds layout.
Power was the steam reciprocating layout as used in the Liberty.

Some more photos. I wrote an update, but it seems to have disappeared while I added photos.... I'll see what's on the site and add more. I can build boats but I can't figure data entry!
