This a copy of the Yacht tenders build by Simpson Strickland & Co, boats out of England around 1903. The hull and plans are by Kingston Moldings 1998. It will have a Cheddar puffer engine.
I'm using a Kingston fiberglass hull modified to match original. and using lots of photos to make interior and exterior of the boats. The plans and hull do not match very well they modified the hull width to make I run better in the water. When I was laying out the hull for hull ribbings, I found that the width was 1 inch narrower than the drawings. The drawings do not have any measurements listed other than 1-inch equals 1 foot. The completed hull length is 47 inches beam is 7 inches.
Other than the hull everything is from scratch and photos I could find.
It has been a fun challenge it is my 3rd boat build.
Hope I havenโ€™t bored you with the photos. All the exposed wood is Mahogany the Chinking is Styrene strips, the final coating is Deft (Lacquer) 8 coats.
Iโ€™m on a hold waiting on more wood as I ran out.
It has been a fun rewarding challenge

Even if most are duplicated Stephen๐Ÿค”
I tried to edit them but something weird is going on when several photos are posted.
What I see in the Edit box is two or three photos repeated many times, so I can't tell which ones need deleting, because what is in the edit box is NOT what appears in the post!
I could download a set of the 'real' photos, delete all of them in the post, and then reload one true set one at a time. But that would take me the rest of the night and then some๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ด
I've done it a few times for up to six pics or so, but not for 61 or 30?
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Wow thatโ€™s an outstanding job. Did you use a glue or a adhesive to attach the wood to the boiler or just the brass bands to hold the wood on? Thank you.

    Hi bruce1946,
Personally if there is room I would wrap the boiler in 2 layers of aluminum foil covered fiberglass insulation then adding wood strip with brass bands for good looks.
I went to a lot of trouble to insulate my boiler see photo and try to reduce heat transfer therefore improving efficiency.
To simulate lagging most people use a heavy cotton string wrapped around the copper tube with a knot at each end allowing enough room to undo fittings then painting white with enamel paint.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Stephen.

Steam is expensive and not for everyone. If you get the bug it is a joy to see a steam engine come to life.
My boiler came from Jerry Watson Clevedon steam he has been very helpful.
Jerry my be able to help with the wood cladding as he supplied the wood and straps for my boiler.

This is my third boat i have built 1st steam boat. 1st 2 where kit boats with ABS hulls and wood ABS cabis and decks. I got a good deal on a Steam plant and a fiberglass hull, did a lot of research on the hull for type of boat to build a lot of photo searching and there i am. there are no plans just simple drawing that was not really to scale. this is 1:12 scale. nice thing is it's uses things from doll houses doors lights. I bought a 3D printer and learning to use it for people. and parts. I have been having fun building it and some issues but worked thru them with help from places like this and some local people. it's keeping my old mind strong.

Thank you. Boiler work was done by Jerry Watson @ Cleverdo stteam in Cornwall. He use to work at Cheddar engines. I had a buch of upgrades done to the boiler being as this was one of the earlier models. Added the Guaze burner, and electronic pressure regulator, sight gage, and a few other things, my engine is brass pistons with out "O"Rings. The new ones have the "O"Rings and require the oiler. he told me that i didn't need the oiler. He has everything you need for the cheddar products. I didn't know enough about steam to be doing the work my self and trying to figure out i sent it to him. post from USA and back was pricey but well worth it to me.
    He does great work

the hull is fiber glass. Titebond III, insta-cure medium CA for inside. and a 2 part epoxy, CA for outside skin and sand prior to bonding. I will be going over the whole inside of the hull with epoxy to insure eveything is well bonded.

Re "when did red green white light be come international law? Does anyone know this boat is from 1903."
    Hi Bruce,
Sorry for the late reply๐Ÿ˜” kinda slipped through the cracks in the electronic floorboards๐Ÿ˜
Short answer; 1897! So your boat will need some๐Ÿ‘
    "Marine navigation lights
In 1838 the United States passed an act requiring steamboats running between sunset and sunrise to carry one or more signal lights; colour, visibility and location were not specified. In 1846 the United Kingdom passed legislation enabling the Lord High Admiral to publish regulations requiring all sea-going steam vessels to carry lights.[1] The admiralty exercised these powers in 1848 and required steam vessels to display red and green sidelights as well as a white masthead light whilst under way and a single white light when at anchor.[2] In 1849 the U.S. Congress extended the light requirements to sailing vessels. In 1889 the United States convened the first International Maritime Conference to consider regulations for preventing collisions. The resulting Washington Conference Rules were adopted by the U.S. in 1890 and became effective internationally in 1897. Within these rules was the requirement for steamships to carry a second mast head light. The international 1948 Safety of Life at Sea Conference recommended a mandatory second masthead light solely for power driven vessels over 150 feet in length and a fixed sternlight for almost all vessels. The regulations have changed little since then."

Yes on the Nave lights trying to find out what Nav lights they had then, when did red green white light be come international law? Does anyone know this boat is from 1903. althought the boats i'm using are restored boats in turkey sweden and belive one is from scotland, that i used for my research on this build. most are being used as tour boats now.
Most of what has been built is from photo's of these boats there are no plans that were acurrate enough to use. i have one that I used for reference it was 1:12 scale but width and length were way off and didn't match the hull that was supplied plans were 1 inch wider than the hull supplied.
so this is my interptation of the boat from photo's also don't know what to name her. Her and many other boats were designed by Simpson manfg. in the early 1900's in london area, they also built picket boats for the royal navy

Wheelhouse painted according to the tugboat we were on the Port Dover.

Like so many models, once the roof goes on, you will not see much of the inside.

Bruce, I was just going to suggest a marine decal scheme for the truck (not this one but the idea) This company is NZs oldest boat haulage company, and they have hauled some massive boats. They were also NZs first company to re-locate houses (they have some amazing trailers with hydraulic jacks on each one of multiple wheels, with their own on board diesel hydraulic pumps. I've seen them climb over small walls and fences. You wouldn't believe they could get boats and houses out of some places, without demolishing something.

here is photo of a real one being towed and several from a RNLI model Club on face book .I'm currently getting ready to Start

    Bruce,
Maybe you could get hold of an old RC Truck and make a new body to look like the Tractor that you want.

I did similar when i made a different body for this Truck.

Hi Bruce, I had a look for a 1/8 scale International Farmall 'A' tractor I could use to tow the Hartley model (its original tow vehicle), and managed to find a few in a company in Newton Iowa, called Daltons Farm Toys, but only in 1/16 scale, (there are some of the larger IH tractors in 1/8) and only cast static models (mainly by Ertl) A 1/8 tractor might be good for display purposes, but at US $350-700, I don't think it is warranted. There are giant R/C trucks/tractors, bulldozers etc out there, but most seem to be custom/hand built, (some pretty amazing working scale machines). but probably worth thousands of $$.

As you say, it's hard finding a scale vehicle, figure etc to suit some models you build, and you almost have to build one to suit what's commonly available. If you have a 3D printer, it's a bit easier, but the cost of a printer is not really warranted for the occasional few figures. I was lucky finding a kids toy which had a body almost the correct scale, which was able to be modified to suit. Short of building a custom vehicle, there's not a lot of choice in some scales, but endless choice in others, but never the one you want๐Ÿ˜

It's all about enjoying yourself and trying to do something a bit different. I think the lifeboat is going to look good on it!.

Jbkiwi There are several of these boats still being used in Turkey, Norway and other countries it was originally built in 1913 near London. I would assume they move these around for restoration on Lorries. I know there are few smaller versions there about 23 feet this one is 38 feet 1;12 scale truck and trailer are 1;14 scale. this was the only low boy trailer I could find that wasn't over $600 wasn't going to pay $3000 for one Boat would be load with a crane and straps.
Originally bought it to set up for my RNLI Trent Class Life boat 1:16 scale model slipway boat kit i have yet to build. next project on my list. Which they do tow to rescue sight but with a MAN truck several clubs in UK have the same set up.
I do not have plans for putting my truck or trailer in the water, just for making a entrance from car to water area. for my boats for my enjoyment.
Finding Trucks in different scales is very difficult other than 1:14 and 1:10
and thank you for you input.

Added 10 photos of truck trailer and up dates to boat in group of photos today

Real nice Bruce, fantastic job! I like that you have also added a tow vehicle, as it's a thing most people don't think of, (runabouts and cabin boats magically get to the water๐Ÿ˜) only one thing, the truck should have been an old Diamond T or Albion๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ (pity no-one makes large vintage trucks/tractors etc) I wanted a large Farmall 'A' tractor to go with my cabin boat, but nothing available. Looking forward to the launching,- hope you've got a decent ramp! It's going to look impressive!
