Hi Maaroa
Now that you are getting to the detail work, have you decided which Solent Lifeboat your model will based on? There were only four that had the opening type door that Aerokits based their model on. The others had a sliding door entry to the cockpit.
Looking nice and ship shape and beautiful wood work.
I'm attaching a pic of my Solent.

Hi Dave M i did some research on the solent lifeboat i found out theres a MK1 and MK2 .the MK1 has the sliding doors and in side the cockpit is different to the MK2 .on the MK2 the doors open and the back cockpit is longer then the MK1 back cockpit .the numbers of the MK1 48004 to 48011 .the MK2 48014 to 48016 . I dont know about 48012 and 48013 I think there MK1 i think ? im not quite sure which one to go on ? cliff
Response by Dave M on the 15th Jun 2017
Hi cliff
Yes the the first 8 004 to 011 had sliding doors and a vertical steering wheel, 012 & 013 are not listed and the series ended with 014 to 016 with the hinged oval doors and seated steering positions.
They were all based on the MKII Oakley so this may be the basis for your designation.
48014 was Lady MacRobert based at Montrose 1972 to 1989
48015 was Hugh William Viscount Gough based at Stornoway 1973 to 1984 then Barra Island 84 to 88 and finally Dunbar 88 to 93
48016 was Douglas Currie based at Kirkwell 74 to 75, Macduff 75 to 84, Fraserburgh 85, Portpatrick 86 to 89, Workington 90 to 92.
To be correct any one of the last three would be OK
Cheers
Dave

Hi Cliff
I hope the single grub screw will hold. The prop will create quite a strong flywheel effect.
Good luck
Dave

propellers specilly made - Posted: 30th May 2017
Hi im very happy with my new specilly made propellers 50mm for Solent Lifeboat .The propeller you get are 3/16 tread but what i need it is propeller with 3/16 hole .The propeller shaft is 3/16".I needit straight through 3/16" hole on the propeller that fittied on the 3/16 shaft and there was no tread on the shaft and there was no one else that can do the job what i was looking for so i called Raboesch to see can they help me and they said yes they can help me with the specilly order. it takes 3 weeks to make them 👍 cliff

Hi Cliff, just read your post, with the specially ordered props i would be inclined to be belt and bracers by dimpling the shaft for the grub screw to fit into, not just a flat (from an engineering point of view) ... looking good

Dennis
Response by RNinMunich on the 1st Apr 2018
Absolutely agree Dennis 👍 That's exactly what I did for my Sea Scout upgrade. Cheers Doug 😎
Response by Mataroa on the 2nd Apr 2018
Hi Dennis The propeller shaft is 3/16".I needit straight through 3/16" hole on the propeller with 3mm grub screw .I dill and tap the shaft to 3mm so the grub screw is locking the shaft and the propeller together all so i use loctite 648 has well .The job i done on the shaft and the propeller they will not comeing off again

Could I ask what you used to strip the paint off.
Response by Mataroa on the 24th Apr 2017
Hi there i use a heat gun and a scraper to strip the paint off in this case it was easy to do but in other cases it might not be easy to do. cliff
Response by georgeo5664 on the 24th Apr 2017
cheers cliff i have the same boat but just found out the paint is cracking and flaking off so just working out the best way to strip it back to wood and start again. George

I inherited a Danish Fish Cutter (ancient Billings kit) in similar sorry state 🤔
A 'long term' restoration project! I have already renovated and modified Dad's old Taycol Target to go in it! Cheers Doug 😎
