Deck Hardware Painted! - Posted: 17th Jun 2018
Today was a good day to spray paint the Deck Hardware.
I also hand painted the Fire Monitor too!
I painted the Deck Hardware black.
The main Deck will be a light Tan.
And the Main Cabin Deck light Grey!

I used duct tape to hold the small parts.
While I painted them!

Hi John, of course you are dead right👍 Vaseline is the stuff!
I should have mentioned that!🤔
Definitely NOT graphite or Lithium based grease or any other conductive / semi-conductive material or any thick heavy grease.
Warming it slightly is also a good tip 👍
Alternative is the switch cleaning / protection spray. Comes in cans with an applicator tube just like WD40. Vaseline is probably cheaper though.
Nevertheless, I still prefer toggle switches to slide switches every time.
They have a spring loaded snap action for better contact and self-cleaning. I like the hi current jobs from the auto branch with built in LED so you can see what's happening, or not 🤔
Like in my Sea Scout for instance. Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi Ed, stick with the switches you have!
Those little ones are only rated for 300mA.
Don't use them for switching the motor supply!!
Yours are 6A which should be enough for your motor.
They'll have some 'safety margin' built in anyway.
Cheers Doug 😎

Thanks Doug,

Big and clunky here we go!
No one's going to see the switches anyway!
Building the Ladders! - Posted: 13th Jun 2018
Today I worked on the ladders!
Fairly simple to do. Just had to measure the rungs.
Cut them to size 1 1/4"! The actual rung will be 3/4"!
Wait for the glue to set. Then cut off the excess!

Take your time It can be done with no problems!

Taping of Windows! - Posted: 8th Jun 2018
The pilot house of the Brooklyn.
Is made of clear lexan.
Or some sort of clear plastic.
Anyway you have to tapeup the windows.
if you want clear windows to show!
So, now i'm waiting for 10mm tape.
To tapeup the forward windows on the brooklyn!
Pacients is a virtue!
In the plans Dumas wants you to neatly.
cut the windows out.
Just to put another piece of clear plastic in it's place!
What? yes cut it out to replace it with another piece of plastic!!!!

Put tape on the inside of the captain cabin.
Where the windows are.
It will keep the inside windows from being over spayed!
When you take the tape off.
The windows will be clear of any over spray!

What the heck were those guys drinking or sniffing when they wrote their instructions 😲
Response by figtree7nts on the 8th Jun 2018
So far the hardest part of the build is the pilot house!
Painting it will be another challenge.
Oh, not sure what they where thinking drinking or sniffing!
But the pilot house needs to be redesigned...….

A lot of the builders of the Brooklyn.
Paint the whole pilot house.
Then paint the windows black!

Not me I want visible windows......
Pilot House and Main Cabin! - Posted: 7th Jun 2018
Well, I finally assembled the pilot house and main cabin!
I drilled holes straight through the pilot house and main cabin!
I'm using very thin wire! Don't even know what gauge it is!

For those of you who may want to build the Tug Brooklyn.
When making the main cabin be careful.
That the main cabin deck is flat!
So that when you go to put the pilot house on to the main cabin deck. they are flush the main cabin deck has camber.
But the pilot house bottom doesn't have camber! So when you put them together they don't match! I sanded down the pilot house bottom. to match the main cabin deck as best as possible.
I had to put an extra strip of plastic to hide the uneven seam. from where the pilot house met the main cabin deck!

I think once painted it won't be too noticeable!

So far so good Ed 👍
Looking closely at the pics of the original I note that she also had such trim boards around the base of the pilot house so no sweat eh? 😉

Final Color Choice! - Posted: 2nd Jun 2018
I was going to use a very light green. By Humbrol but decided against it because.
I thought about it Tugs of that class and era.
Where a dark green! But I don't want to use dark green!
So, I purchased medium light green instead.
It's called "Army Green"!
Oh, It has no shine what so ever.
A very matt finish which is what I want!
If you look at the picture to the right.
That's the original Brooklyn.
Docked somewhere on a New York City pier. Circa 1910!

Well the Tamiya Tape arrived! Now I can go ahead and fix the waterline on the Brooklyn! There's some over spray I have to tidy up. Once I'm done with that. on to the Deck and Deck hardware!

The Tamiya tape is great stuff to work with.I use it all the time.
Just make sure you keep a constant pressure on it.Don't pull on it too hard.It does take curves depending on the width of the tape.
Enjoy marking your waterline.
Response by figtree7nts on the 25th May 2018
Thanks, for the input won't pull on it too hard!
I got the 6mm and 40mm for now! I got the 6mm to help me make the turn on aft of the hull! Here goes nothing!
Forward H Bitt & Aft H Bitt! - Posted: 24th May 2018
I assembled the forward & aft H Bitts also painted them!
They are a bit flimsy. But once glued to the deck.
They become stronger!
The deck is black from over spray. I will be painting the deck tan or a good shade of wood! The deck has tape all over it! So, I won't have to prime the deck!

And also the fire buckets stand!

Pacients while building the fire bucket stands.
Is a must as you will be glue very thin wire thats.
Used as a support!
