Main deck and triming! - Posted: 22nd Jul 2018
Completed main deck and trimming !
Couldn't get clean lines on painted surfaces.
Painted as best as I could!

Have to get some mineral spirits to clean my brush!
So, can't paint minor over painted area's!
Don't have a local hardware store to go to.
They're closing everywhere I go to!

I heard you can clean a brush with oil (cooking oil).
Is there any truth to that?

Having took 5 hours to paint the main deck.
After removing the tape. Have noticed I have to do some touchup painting. As the tape didn't adhere to where I put it!😡

Main cabin Deck! - Posted: 21st Jul 2018
OK, couldn't wait painted the main cabin deck!
I'm using Humbrol #RC417 Coach roof off white!
Couldn't find the right light grey in matt finish!
So, decided on the coach roof off white.
Which looks like a shade of light grey!
Have put three coats!
Will put another coat for good measure!
Have to let it dry over night!
To then paint the main cabin boarder......

Windows Completed! - Posted: 21st Jul 2018
Three days painting windows.
Thought I'd never finish!
The handrails turn out a little crooked, don't know how!
It's a good thing I don't drink!
Now onto the Captain's cabin roof and the fiddley deck roof!
Soon, I'll be able to paint the main cabin deck!
Maybe tomorrow, will be a good day to paint the main cabin deck!

Five windows left! - Posted: 20th Jul 2018
I've painted the portside. Now to do the Starboard side!
Then, I'm done with the windows! Of everything I've done of the Brooklyn. The windows were the most challenging of all...….

Oh, As I paint each window. I then remove the tape I had place to protect the windows then selves!
Luckily the windows are 10mm wide. So, I ordered 10mm wide masking tape! It worked like a charm. I think Doug, RNinMunich did a recommendation on using the tape. Thanks Doug!👍

Tamiya tape is great stuff.Good job.I have used it for taping off water lines and anything else that needed it.Are you also doing a little weathering as you go along.I noticed some colouring on the bottom structure.

Hi Doug, Donnieboy!

Tamiya tape is very good!
Doug, I painted my Southampton. To look more like the Wyeforce! which I believe she is based on! Redid her about 8 yrs ago! Sorry Doug, Not another Southampton!

Donnieboy, I still haven't weathered the Brooklyn!
Not sure if I'm going to! But Thanks cos if she looks weathered.
I must be doing some right!👍
Response by RNinMunich on the 21st Jul 2018
Mornin' Ed,
Yeah, think I'll do the same with my Southampton. She's a bit gaudy in the HobbyKing colours!
But AFTER the fish cutter and PTB refits!
Cheers, Doug 😎

So far so good! - Posted: 20th Jul 2018
Well, I've painted the windows on the Captain's Cabin!
Also the Pilot House aft windows!
This is tedious work and very time consuming!

Over Spray! - Posted: 19th Jul 2018
OK, just realized there is some over spray on the Captain's cabin windows! On the inside that is. Too late to do anything about it! Chalk it up to experience I guess!😲😤
Good thing the pilot house windows. Where protected by the pilot house roof!

Thanks Doug,

I'll try that! Now all I have to do is go get the solvent!😲
Response by RNinMunich on the 19th Jul 2018
Go easy with the solvent! In case it attacks the plastic.
What type paint did you use?
I might try polishing it off first. Overspray is not normally so thick or so firmly 'attached' as where you actually wanted the paint😉

Hi Doug,

I'm going to take a better look in the morning!
I used Rust-oleum Camouflage light green!

Brooklyn Pilot House! - Posted: 19th Jul 2018
The Brooklyn's pilot house is made of clear plastic.
That's got groves indentations and so forth!
You have to tape up the windows. before you paint them!
Then you have to paint the window frames. after you paint the pilot house!
I used spray paint for the pilot house.
So, I have to be patient and accurate!
I should be done by this Sunday! If not OK Monday or even Tuesday!

I was just on Ebay I looked all over!
Where else can I find "The Secret Ingredient"?😜
Oh, What's the Mil Spec?
Response by RNinMunich on the 19th Jul 2018
It's 'within you and without you' Ed 😉
Try MIL-HDBK- 217G! 😁
or Federal Standard 595
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Federal_Standard_595_camouflage_...
or MIL-STD-188 Maintenance!

Window Painting! - Posted: 19th Jul 2018
OK, I started painting the windows on the Brooklyn.
I miscalculated there's 19 windows not 17!
I figure 3 coats each should do!

What do guys think. Should I put more than 3 coats?
I'm using Humbrol #70 Brick Red matt!

Response by RNinMunich on the 19th Jul 2018
So you'll be finished on the 29th ?? 😲
Just like Newport News - time and cost overruns 😁

3 coats sounds extravagant to me Ed. Humbrol enamel is pretty thick stuff.
Matt covers better than gloss as well, 2 should be enough I think.
Cheers, Doug 😎
