First Snow! - Posted: 15th Nov 2018
Captain's Log:

Well, we are expecting the first snow of the season!
Here where I live!
I was going to take the Brooklyn to the pond.
This weekend,
It was suppose to be her Maiden Voyage!
But nature has other plans!

So, Brooklyn's Maiden Voyage.
Is going to have to wait till the Spring!

Unless we have a warm day which I doubt!😡😤😭

I attached a picture of the Brooklyn.
Patiently waiting in the domestic test tank!
For a Maiden Voyage!!!😊😊😊

Same here (Munich) Steve,
When I first came to live here (Oct 1985) about half a metre of snow by mid November was the norm. For the last 15 years or so we mostly haven't had any snow in Autumn at all (no white Christmases 😭), if any a little came around Feb. / March.
Fingers crossed for a warm day for you Ed. 👍
Until this week we've had sun and day temps up to 20°C, in November! Nuts!
Cheers All, Doug 😎

Port Perry snow...glad my snowblower is working.
Response by figtree7nts on the 18th Nov 2018
Thanks, Steve! I'm very happy with the Brooklyn!
Also I'm optimistic but, I 'don't see any warm days coming around the corner!😤 But you never know!
Doug, I hope you have a white Christmas!
Ron. Good to see your snow blower works!

The Skipper and Crew! - Posted: 31st Oct 2018
Captain's Log:

Well the Skipper and Crew have finally shown up!
But, There's always the one deckhand that's running late!
Aft bollard deckhand missing.
Reporting to work in one week!
I think he's getting a write up. 😡

Skipper in the white hardhat.
Already giving orders! 😜

But they are a happy crew! 😁😁😁

Sorry Donnie, didn't mean to instigate a mutiny. 😲
Capn's missus probably isn't amused either! 😤
Response by figtree7nts on the 31st Oct 2018
Can't let the Missus see the Browser!😱😲
Response by RNinMunich on the 31st Oct 2018
"Anyone of them will do😁😊😉!"

OK Ed, What's your pleasure?
Truncheon or handcuffs 😁😁😁😉😲

Steam Whistle! - Posted: 6th Oct 2018
Captain's Log:

I finally got the Steam Whistle for the Brooklyn!
It's made by RAM! It's a RAM80 to be exact!
It's not a bad device at all.
It sounds quite loud!
But I haven't tested it outside yet!

I left all the Portholes opened on the Brooklyn.
So, that helps a lot with the Steam Whistle sound!

Where can I get the figures that you show in one of your posts? I live in the USA.
Response by figtree7nts on the 16th Nov 2018
Hi JBRCfloats,

I got the figures for the Brooklyn.
From Cornwall Models in the UK!
http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/graupner_crew.h...
After shipping they come to about $10.00 a piece!
I have about 5 on the Brooklyn. I paint their hardhats blue.
And leave one figure with white hardhat.
As an indicator he's the Captain!

Regards, Ed

Elizabeth Park! - Posted: 9th Sep 2018
Captain's Log:

I just got back from the park!
The wife and I go for a walk.
Three time a day!
We ended up at our local park!
Of course I planed it, like that!
I wanted to see if there was any weeds or algae.
Guess I'm lucky. There wasn't any at all!
Just about a dozen ducks that's all.

Looks as if her Maiden Voyage. Will be in about two weeks!
It takes a lot of planning. When your model weighs 15-16 lbs.
And you live on a third floor with no elevator!😱😲😤😭

One way or another. Brooklyn's having a Maiden Voyage!

Just like Newport News huh - More delays!! 😁😁
Budget overruns as well!? 😲😉
Very nice venue Ed, looking forward to the vid!
Regards to both, Cheers, Doug 😎
Response by figtree7nts on the 9th Sep 2018
Thanks Doug,

Hope the weather holds up!😱
Now, where did I put my back brace?😜
Two more weeks and counting!👍

Cheers, Ed
Response by RNinMunich on the 9th Sep 2018
Thinks!
I have a spare corset (!) with a steel bracing plate left over from an old severe back injury if you need one!
You could even use the plate as ballast 😁😁

Grub Screw! - Posted: 28th Aug 2018
Captain's Log:

I decided to put Tug Brooklyn back in the tub!
Just to see how everything works!
Luckily This didn't happen at the pond.
The grub screw that holds.
The collar aft of the dog bone.
Loosened up after about 20 minute of 1/2 ahead!

I made a notch on the shaft.
And retighted the grub screw!

Would anybody recommend lock tight to be used?

Response by figtree7nts on the 28th Aug 2018
Gentlemen Thanks, I will do that!👍
I'm just glad she didn't brake down.😲
In the middle of the pond!😭
I'd hate to have to go swimming!😡
Response by RNinMunich on the 9th Sep 2018
Swimming is good for you Ed😉
Had to swim out after my destroyer once, RX failed and she was drifting towards one of the lake fountains! 😲😆
Sun was warm but the watter bl***y cold! 😡
Cheers, Doug 😎
PS: stripped down to me knickers before going in, got a ripple of applause from the audience in the adjacent Biergarten, and some intriguing proposals from some of the er' 'ladies' present!😊
Response by figtree7nts on the 9th Sep 2018
Doug,

I hate cold water!😡
I should be receiving some Loctite.
I ordered a few days ago!
Don't want any of the grub.
Screws to get loose!

I'm not taking her anywhere.
Until I secure those grub screws......👍

Brooklyn Finally Completed! - Posted: 26th Aug 2018
Brooklyn is finally completed!
It took me 8 months to assemble her!
The Brooklyn is a very nice kit!
I don't know how much she's going to weigh.
I don't have a scale! But I do have lead shots!
A lot of lead BB's about 14,400 BB's!

So, anyone that want to figure that out in weight.
Please let me know!

The bollards are now glued in place!
That was my last step on the Brooklyn.

Was a lot of fun...…...👍

Evenin' Ed,
When you first mentioned the weight I started thinking of a guy I'd seen with a big heavy boat slung over his shoulder!
No, Not the boat itself 😲
He'd made a sling attached to the boat stand so he could hang the weight over his shoulder and just guide it with his hand.
Might have to start doing something like that soon for my 5foot Destroyer, Belfast and Graf Spee models. 🤔
Like the Stones used to sing, "What a drag it is getting old"!
Cheers, Doug 😎
Response by figtree7nts on the 6th Sep 2018
Mornin' Doug,

That sounds like an idea!
But, as much as the Brooklyn weighs.
I think the best thing to do.
Is get someone else to carry it!
I have a wagon I'm going to cut a notch into.
That way I can pull it to the pond!

Now, How do I get it down to the ground floor?
It's always something with these models.....
I think I'll get a smaller boat!
Maybe a pilot boat......
Response by captaindoug1 on the 16th Nov 2018
My Brooklin weight in at 23 pounds and I have pulled a 250 pound barge with it and I think it would pull 33 with no problems

Running Lights Completed! - Posted: 25th Aug 2018
Running Lights are now in place!
Brooklyn is complete except for the bollard.
Which aren't glued in place yet!
Because the caprail needs to be ground down!
In certain area's!
So, the bollards can be placed against the bulwark!

Thanks Doug,
Thanks Donnieboy,

She was a lot of fun assembling!
I had a good time with the build!

Donnieboy, Tell your friend to keep an eye on.
Gluing the deck to the main cabin.
Make sure it in it proper position.
Before gluing it down!
Or the ladder leading down from the main deck.
will come out off center!

That's my only advice!

PS. Maiden Voyage Soon!

Cheers, Ed
Response by mturpin013 on the 5th Sep 2018
Well done Ed, it really does look fabulous and as the others, I look forward to the maiden voyage.
Response by figtree7nts on the 6th Sep 2018
Thanks Mturpin013,

I'm looking forward to her maiden voyage as well!
In a few weeks from now!

Cheers, Ed

Brooklyn is almost Completed! - Posted: 23rd Aug 2018
After being recommended not to drill holes in the Captains cabin.👍
By Doug (RNinMunich) I decided not to damage my model.
By drilling holes in the Captains cabin!
Thanks, for the advice Doug much appreciated!

So, will figure out a different way to put.
My steam whistle.....

Response by RNinMunich on the 23rd Aug 2018
We'll get there in the end Ed 👍
Would have been a shame to spoil your craftsmanship!
Cheers, Doug 😎

Guywires in Place! - Posted: 23rd Aug 2018
I've placed 4 guywires in place!
There are 6 guywires in total.
But I'm not placing the last 2 until.
I place the steam whistle speaker in the Captains cabin!
I'm going to use the Captains cabin.
As part of the speaker for the steam whistle!
It should work out OK, Fingers crossed!

Forward Ladder! - Posted: 17th Aug 2018
Forward ladder is now in place!
I also placed a Deckhand.
Looking down the ladder!

Special Note:
When I was laying the deck.
I laid it off center accidently!😡
So, the ladder is off center by about a 1/4"!😲

Lesson learned when laying the deck.
Use slow curing glue. in case you have to move the deck around. and position it in place!

Response by figtree7nts on the 18th Aug 2018
