Model Boat Club's Ponds/Lakes - Posted: 1 year ago by ads90
Many of us know our own local ponds and lakes where Model Boat Clubs sail but not nationally so I thought it might be good if we could post photos of our own Boat Clubs' home waters. It would be interesting to see where other clubs sail so here goes with a couple of photos of our Basingstoke Model Boat Club's home water at Eastrop Park, Basingstoke. Good flat access all around the model boat pond and good facilities for those with disabilities.
A great idea. Eaton Park in Norwich is a fabulous large ( I think the largest Boating Pond in Europe) boating pond. The club has great facilities for keeping boats safe whilst members can meet in an upstairs room - drink coffee/ tea, eat and chat etc. The facilities for wheelchair users is very good too - a stair lift enables access to the upper floor for example. Members are very friendly too. Do very me and visit us. Photo to follow.
Hi Baggie, 'largest in Europe'?! Are you sure? This is where I and the local club sail. First pic shows the SAT pic with houses etc to give an idea of scale. An excellent restaurant and Biergarten and all necessary 'facilities' are available right next to the lake, as well as a huge car park at the North end. At the south end there is another large car park, a pub and ice rink. This is the 'quiet' end of the lake. 2015 a new adventure playground was built, to keep the little ones occupied while Dad plays with HIS toys 😊 Very pleasant to take a ship on a 'world cruise' around the island. Back at the table; an excellent Bavarian beer or glass of wine and choice of Biergarten fare! Happy sailing, cheers Doug 😎 PS I live just off the bottom left corner 😉
From time to time the Ostpark lake has to be drained to clean out the duck, goose and fish poop as well as all the junk idiots chuck in 😡 http://neuperlach-online.de/ostpark-html/neuperlach-ostpark-2014-02-25-I.html More than once I've trotted round the corner of the pub with a big ship under my arm to be greeted with NO WATTER! 🤔😲 Somewhere in the crud they shovelled out must have been the port prop of my destroyer, lost by brushing the wall in front of the restaurant terrace.😲 Oh well, back home to get the buggy and/or hovercraft out 😉
Vast expanse of concrete at Munich pond when it is drained! Eaton pond was built between the wars primarily for sailing large vane control yachts, hence the long shape, and as such is said to be one of the best examples in the U.K. We have a perennial weed problem-common to any large expanse of fresh water-which is currently controlled with application of chemicals. I am sure most clubs have this problem and I would be interested in their experience with weed control.
Hi Doug , if they did that here the council would decide it was cheaper to leave it drained and give it over to skate boarders and bmx bikes .Cheers Marky👍
Hi Mark, There'd probably be a public outcry if the council decided to do that here 😉And the councillors would get voted out pretty quick😊 Fortunately the boarders, bikers and rollerbladers have their own spaces elsewhere 😊 Although you do see bladers, joggers and cyclists all over the many paths and tracks around the park. Cheers Doug 😎

I must congratulate all the new members who have joined the BMBC this year. We have now reached a figure of 66 members which is great and after all we do have a very good lake/pond to accommodate all of us.
