Functionally the website hasn’t changed the way it handles cookies at all. It’s just a legal requirement to inform users via a very annoying pop up.

Wish it wasn’t needed!

Cookies are necessary to know you’re logged in.

I also don’t support how they’re used to track you around the internet mind. There are pros and cons 😆

Cookies

Here is a pretty good explanation of cookies.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Cookies

Even if cookies let "Big Brother" know that I am going to model-boats.com, I'm fine with that.
It beats the heck out of having to "login" every time I visit.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the clarification.
It is my belief that cookies track you while on the internet.
I for one try to disable them when possible.

Hi All,

Just a quick note that there is a one-time popup some of you may see around cookie use on the website. On first load, you'll need to acknowledge you're happy with cookies.

Cookies, despite the name, are just random strings of data like ABC123 (although much longer). These data strings are stored on your device in order for the website to know who you are and to keep you logged in.

I'm sure when the EU made the rule that websites have to inform users, they thought there was something much more cynical behind cookies but they're very much harmless. Just annoying that wherever you go on the internet these days you're always being asked to confirm cookie use.

It should only ever ask once, if you keep seeing the prompt, it's probably that you're using a browser or browser mode that wipes or disables cookies automatically.
