If you are selling to a dealer you really need to know the likely retail value as they most certainly will know the true price. Many of the items were very collectible and I suspect sold at well below their real value. I sell many model for my club to raise funds and yes we do try and see that they go to a good home hopefully to be sailed again one day. For such a large collection You really need the help of a professional auctioneer who will sort and catalogue into similar groups, but more importantly identify any rare or special items. Yes it will cost but if you are intent on selling you will realise the true value. I seem to recall many of the items were advertised and sold to the general public at a later stage. As Roy has said the owner died and the estate was dissolved probably for its assets.
So sad and such a loss to the modelling world.

Any boats or kits for sale reasonably. If can fit in big suitcase or sell packed to go as baggage. The kids come home after london and could take it with them maybe. Military is a fav, I do Rc and love old kits especially ones not available here. Yes Ebay is crazy on prices. By the time they fee you n tax you if lucky you get a very small amount from sale.

We have just been disposing of a couple of donated items to us for club funds. I was confident on a reasonable price to charge and that was just for members only. Not interested in selling on ebay.

I felt the combination of going to a good home and knowing they were wanted rather than selling on for more profit was what the donors would be satisfied with.

Another was given on the understanding it would be made to work etc. All done and she goes in the water on Wednesday morning.

I am glad it is not just me, I really dislike those dealers and the program makers as well.

They certainly do not have me as a subscriber to their programs!

The offloading of those models was sometime ago and I think was discussed on Mayhem and I don't think all the models were for them to do as they wished with, as some were owned by others I understand. A real shame and some appear to have been neglected.

Why is it that the likes of Drew Pritchard always get first dibs at knock down prices rather than enthusiasts via say auctions?

This is a difficult one! I have seen the collection and the gentleman who housed them all was a keen model boater. The venue was very popular and there was an early year regatta each year. Then it stopped, I believe after he died.

The subsequent owners were not interested in continuing the regattas. My understanding is/was that many of the models were there as exhibits only. I heard one or two modellers saying that they never had the opportunity to reclaim their models.

Where does the truth lie, I don'nt know but they were clearly not appreciated anymore.

I did wonder what happened but I found it hard to watch the video when 'the dealers' arrived.
My only contact and experience was after one had gone. I had lost contact with a friend, he never said he was ill, a great pity. He was a prolific builder and all except the sailing boats were taken off for a pittance.

Later I sold the sailing boats for his widow and they went at fair prices.

What a find, I could really let off steam in terms of restoration technology. Is this a new episode of Drew Pritchard? I don't think the episode has been broadcast in Germany yet. I like the rarity hunter.

American Pickers knock off eh? Love the boats in the collection. Maybe they will list here n we can buy them if they can post them to here. My kids are in Germany today then London show next. Maybe one of you in area could get them to a hobby shop with vintage boats n kits they could ship with the gear? Btw shows got good reviews. Grandson loves it as drinking age is lower there.
