For gluing brass wire to white metal stanchions, just use C.A. AKA superglue. simples.

Bruce, understood. But, I am hopelessly lost with soldering. I guess it would be best for Merchant to ditch the white metal stanchions and fabricate brass stanchion.

Jumpugly This is great for brass to brass but will not work for white metal Zinc. white metal temp is way lower temp than tinned solder.

I wish these model kit manufactures would tell you the instructions on how to attach white metal parts to brass or quit putting it in their kits. epoxies and CA do not work any of the smallest shock (bump) to these joints will fail they will not last very long with transportation to and from home to pond. the zinc is oily and is a containment to solder and glues, so nothing sticks to it.
Normal solder temp for brass is too high for white metal.

New to this. What does 'soft soldering' mean?? Are you referring to the temperature used???

Soft soldering works well with soldering grease and a medium soldering tip approx. 2-3 mm wide.
Brazing is not possible because white metal has a low melting point before the brazing alloy flows.
If possible, only use brass with brass. This is my experience, and I solder all railings with soft solder. It's easier to “rework”!
Where pressure builds up (steam engines), you should use hard soldering.
