    Hi Andy,
You should be able to legally buy magicians flash powder and flash paper without any fuss.
At least I can here in Germany.
Bought some on-line a while ago with some experiments in mind with remote ignition using my left over Glow Plugs. Long since redundant!! I also have Gisela's cast off Russell Hobbs toaster to dismantle for the nichrome wire.
Try searching Magicians Supplies or Flash Paper.🀞

    Hi Andy.
This all sounds a bit interesting, something I haven’t investigated before so I shall start to do some digging on the internet.
I am always up for a new challenge.
    Regards Bill

    Had an idea!
Anybody tried electronic igniters - they appear legal in UK, from what I can see on line, making them with Nichrome wire and some nitrocellulose wrap would give a nice flare and smoke and I could use a 555 mini circuit to just time delay say for 5 seconds after torpedo launch. It would give an appearance of a hit on a target, I think.
Does anyone have a view on this?
Any help for a pyro novice is greatly appreciated.
    Andy

    Hi Martin,
No Apology needed - great help, many thanks.
Already had reply from Portsmouth, seems they use black powder! and other licensed pyro's. They have full risk assessments, insurance etc and the Local authority are completely in the permission loop. Seems like a lot harder than I thought. Might try and see if CO2 mini canisters can be adapted somehow, or maybe just go for a contact bright flash and a bang sound, somehow.

I think the Portsmouth club that Red referred to is called :-
The Portsmouth pyrotechnic model boat club.
Well i think that is what they are called !

Cant imagine BB guns being allowed in the UK - Elf & Softy would go berserk - Portsmouth Display have to operate under strict rules (remember being told that at Weymouth one year)
They seemingly use fireworks in their displays.

Have an article from MMI on a Ota Melara BB gun somewhere..........

Vaguely seem to remember might be same sort of BB Warship club in Oz?

You are correct they are the Western warship combat club. They fire
steel BB's to try to sink each other. The side of the hull is made of
balsa wood. the pond is shallow for easy recovery.
