I can't remember who it was, but I recall reading in the book of his circumnavigation in a small yacht, somebody performing an appendectomy on himself.

Isn't there some famous quote about a doctor working on himself as having a fool for a patient? Home dentistry? OK, I can see that in an emergency, but when you guys start talking about do it yourself hip replacements, I'll have to draw the line 😀😁😁

Please don't do what I did. A crown on a molar came loose and I glued it back on with CA (yes I did know it was poisonous). Unfortunately when I put it back on I accidentally turned it through 180 degrees. Couldn't close my mouth properly until the glue decayed. 😁

I had some sharp edges on a tooth and just used a diamond coated nail file. So much better than a points file!

Talking of glue, about six weeks ago I had a bit of an accident. I was spray painting Düsseldorf in the garage. I have an electric door which I have a habit of ducking under whilst opening. Whilst leaving the garage, I got things wrong and lifted my head too early and struck one of the mechanism brackets. The result was a 5cm gash on the top of my head. The boss is a nurse and she insisted I went to A&E. Cannot argue with a Hungarian Nurse. After going through screening by a doctor and a triage nurse I got to see a doctor. He cleaned the wound and then glued it back together. It worked very well but took three weeks before I could get it all out of my hair with a lot of hair loss where I had pulled out the bits.😊
I cannot promise to finish one project before starting another. I know, I tried.

That was the second time it came loose within a year Nerys.
The dentist's assistant messed it up in the first place!
When I finally got to the dentist and he gave me a €30 bill I told him 'You must be joking!'

Dentists would dread you sticking caps back in etc, it may do them out of a bit of business if it got around that such DIY repairs were acceptable.

Last time I was at the dentist (February) he asked how my modeling boats was doing, and would I like a bag of used dental burrs (about 50) of course the answer was Yes! hardly used, won't have to buy any for quite some time, worth mentioning to your dentist, if he's the friendly type, can he save some used burrs for you.😊

"the next time I loose a cap I'll just glue it back with ca glue....he panicked and said Nooooo!"
Don't see why Joe!
About six years ago I did just that, when a crown came loose on the very morning I was getting ready to drive to Strasbourg for the Christmas Fair and lights. Didn't kill me, and the crown didn't fall out😁 And yes, I did Dremel out some of the original cement.😉
The Strasbourg fair is said to be the world's original Christmas Fair. Well worth a visit.

Some sources say that CA glue was invented for / used by the military in Korea and Vietnam for closing wounds quickly after field surgery.
Don't remember seeing it on M.A.S.H. though.
I expect Klinger had flogged it🙄

"Stay at home and use the Dremel"

My dentist knows that I like to build things so I joked to him that the next time I loose a cap I'll just glue it back with ca glue....he panicked and said Nooooo! 😊😊😀

I had a tooth rebuilt recently. Dentists, and dental hygienist are very conscious about their and your health. Wear a mask in and out of the office, not needed in your car, obey the instructions. Wash hands etc. But do get it fixed.

A timely thread. I broke a tooth today which has left a very sharp edge against my tongue. I phoned my dentist late this afternoon and he will see me at 1.20 tomorrow. I read all of the special procedures they are taking and it has put me a little more at ease.

Rick - I have to agree with you on keeping clear of any place you don't have to be. If twice a week works for you then by all means stick with it. After all your the one that has your best interests at heart.
Take care

Yes Colin and Martin, I'll play it by ear, probably won't do it every week, only when I'm feeling bolshie.

As far as home dialysis again is concerned, I haven't a clue. The new fistula is useless and with all the corona nonsense, no patient training is going on or likely to be for a while. I'm being dialysed in to a line in my chest which I think is far more convenient but evidently has a tiny risk. Feel we have been 'mucked about' far too much considering it was their lack of interest when we told them the original fistula wasn't working properly.

Fed up Nerys.

Nerys,
As long as you feel ok and are managing with no nasty side affects then cutting it down will be ok.
But promise us if you start to feel unwell then go to the Hospital.

Martin555.
If it looks right it probably is.

I'm not keen on going near the hospital but need dialysis to keep me alive. When the virus was at it's peak, they only had me in twice a week, but now it's back to three times. However, I've cancelled several of the third appointments on the grounds that if twice a week is good enough when it suits the hospital's convenience, then it must be adequate for my needs and cuts out 50% of possible infection time. I may be wrong, who knows, but I've managed so far.

Cheers, Nerys

Hi Rick,
It is funny you should mention the Dentist, as my Dentist phoned my up just Yesterday and he cancelled my appointment and then said he will be in touch later.

It is not just you being worried about it as it seems to effect different people in different ways.
If you are not in any pain i would postpone it for a few months or until things start settling down more.

Martin555.
