I have used the same technique to secure the speed controller in my 46" RAF fire tender.

Treve, I always use self adhesive Velcro, gives some flexibility to the installation and removal for access to other parts in the hull easy, or even to move to share it with another model. Make sure that the esc has room to breathe as the fins and metal base are the heat sink for the electronics, Also be aware the esc's get hotter at slow speeds than they do at full speed.

The ridges on the side made me think that it was designed to slot into a bracket, I am glad that its as simple as double sided tape, or velcro.

I normally use Velcro tape. I the glue isn't strong enough a bit of medium Cyano helps, Remember it needs air around it so not to close to the motor, also helps to keep it away from the receiver and aerial

I have used Velcro to mount speed controllers and other items.Have also built wood frames to hold them.

I have fixed these speed controllers down in two different ways.

One, i have used double sided tape and it never got hot enough to make it come unstuck.

Two i have made a tight fitting wood frame around it.
Glued the frame to the base board then pushed the speed controller in to the frame.
