I know this must seem a pretty dumb question to many if not most of you, but do SLA’s need to be upright? I have 12v 7ah and it doesn’t quite fit where I would like to install it! Your thoughts would be appreciated; be kind now.......🤐
I run SLA's in my tugboats! Yes, you can put them in any position! They are sealed and there's no liquid in them. The batteries are sealed electrolyte-tight, immune against installation attitude they are solid!
Hi J.Barry, You can use the SLA batteries in any position but if they are laid on their side the weight is not evenly distributed. Most of the weight is in the lower section of the battery (when vertical), so if you lay one sideways in your boat you need to move it so that the weight is even, especially if you put one on the centreline of the boat (say over the keel). You can test this outside of the boat.
