    Question of the Day?
Here we go again. The answer given as correct is wrong. The sheer is the curvature of the deck line it is not the curvature of the main hull. Ref: https://www.marineinsight.com/naval-architecture/what-is-sheer-flare-and-camber-in-ships/

    LCM3 landing a Sherman M4A3(105) howitzer
Thank you all for the nice compliments and likes on this subject! I try to add a little extra to my videos. rather than showing boats going around in circles a distance where 95% of the view is water, I like to get in as close as possible and make them interesting. It does take some time to make these videos so those compliments keep me going. I make no money on these videos, not even from YouTube. My interest is to expand model boating (and armor) via showing how much fun this hobby can be. I provide links to my web sites so that others have the opportunity to get more information on the models I build and those that I have upgraded. So, I have one more, just finished uploading: Taking a Ride on Board a Springer RC tug. It is 3:30 AM, time to hit the sack. I hope you enjoy this one, again, something a little different. https://youtu.be/aHVUpuwnw3I Good night all ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ’ค. Lew Florida , USA

I miss Graupner!!! And Robbe too.
Hi cashrc, I agree in the missing of the past genius of Graupner and Robbe, having built kits from both and they were so complete. Very well thought out planned and described. Amati kits are also nicely done. Not sure about some others named by you, as my experience is of 25 years ago and they must have improved to have survived. The trouble is you have to pay for the attention to detail. A few years ago I made an Aeronaut kit up and I think this came up to the standards of G & R, no plan, but good instructions. I have a Panart kit that looks very good yet to build. A detailed look has revealed no problems and as I also found more detailed instructions on-line I am looking forward to it. Sarik who have taken over most of the supply of plans these days in the UK, have in a few cases also produced laser cut wood packs and I am just ready to start one, a small scale yacht called Wild Duck. Otherwise it has been build off plans for me using up accumulated wood and fittings from over the years. I agree the old shiny coloured catalogues were a nice casual read and I have a few myself and do dip into them. Hobbies here are the only similar ones here now. nice post Roy

    International Associations
Hi Model Boaters ๐Ÿ˜† Please help me out. I am looking for an International Association / Federation that represents RC Boating. I have all the Model Power Boat / Radio Sailing Associations and Naviga. I'm looking for something similar to the latter but with an actual contact person / number to contact for collaboration in Africa.

    keel weight information
I see you are building Gary Webbโ€™s โ€œ Annieโ€ from bearospaceindustries. Gary has included keel weight information for his various designs in the written instructions. Several people on this website have built Annie. I just finished Emma. If you email Gary directly, he will get back to you shortly with answers to your questions.

Aerokits pt boat bulkhead plans wanted
Aerokits didn't tend to include bulkheads in their plans unfortunately. You may be lucky and find someone who has built one from scratch in the past, drew the bulkheads out and kept the drawings, otherwise, you'll have to draw them out yourself. Will

MATAKANA MODEL BOAT SHOW NEW ZEALAND 21.04.24
Hi JB, Thanks for asking, however alas no progress on the Drifter due to time difficulty. Life is really getting in the way of hobby time at the moment. I did buy a Revell kit of a north sea trawler and have converted it to RC, I will post a build log of it at some point. Nice bit of bitumen over there. Cheers, Stephen.

THE MOST ORIGINAL, STRANGE AND FAILURE SHIPS EVER BUILT IN THE WORLD.
The third ship in the list of strange, bizarre, failed ships is the battleship NOVGOROD. Now the list has gone from four to six thanks to Cashrc who added: 1) an aircraft carrier which proved to be very useful but very original, perhaps unique (along with its twin) of its kind, and 2) a submarine which seems to have been a total failure. As you can see from the photos and as mentioned in the first message, the feature that makes it unique and bizarre is the circular shape. The intent was to create a platform as stable as possible for the large naval artillery of the time. Vice Admiral Popoff's idea was realized in 1873. The 2500 ton ship had a diameter of 36.9 meters and mounted 280 mm caliber guns. Propulsion was guaranteed by six propellers at the stern, powered by as many steam turbines capable of delivering a power of 2400 hp (wikipedia reports a different, much higher value). The six propellers should have made it more maneuverable than any other ship, this was the prediction but in reality it was almost impossible to maintain a course and it was very slow, just 6 knots of speed. The ship was launched in 1873 in Nikolajev on the Black Sea, and was supposed to operate as a coast guard together with the ship Admiral Popoff, also circular but with a slightly smaller diameter, but with a greater displacement of 3647 tons. As soon as she left the Dnieper River she became uncontrollable, she rotated out of control and caused illness to the crew who apparently were paralyzed by dizziness. The circular platform was indeed much more stable than traditional ships as expected by its designer but the nautical qualities were terrible. The biggest drawback of her hull shape was that it greatly reduced the rudder's ability to turn the ship by masking much of the water flow, so much so that it took up to 40-45 minutes to make a complete circle. The solution adopted was to use the engines for control and leave the rudder fixed, even if this reduced the speed of the ship. Despite this obvious failure, Tsar Alexander II was favorably impressed by the stability of this ship and wanted the imperial yacht, the Livadia, to be built on the same principle but to look like a traditional ship. Popoff then designed a hull that was not circular but elliptical with a length of 72 meters and a width of 47 meters. But this is another bizarre ship that perhaps deserves a separate mention. Unlike the other ships on the list, this ship type operated for a period of time before being scrapped in 1911 and also participated in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.

    34" Fairy Huntsman air scoops
Hi Olly. If I send you the details for one of mine can you produce the CAD file at some point please. No rush as I have a way to go with my builds. I've done all my scratch build drawings in Visio which can't produce the files for 3D printing. I've started to learn TurboCAD but haven't got very far! Once I've got one CAD file I hope I can alter it for my other builds. They are all at a scale of 1:12 but the air inlets do vary in shape and size from model to model. Chris

    eezebilt Cresta
Hi Jacko, What motor and batteries are you running in your Cresta? Do you do propellor swaps when you are out trying your boat out when first running? Was she on full throttle at all or was there lot's more to go. Was your Cresta driver just a little nervous when he was out on his first maiden trial run. I am just wondering if she can get up on plane when running being a speed boat.

Today at our pond, IngaIV and tug Portbalne
It's really true, I also think like you about this Flaxybybuck. When I finish the model I'm building I have two projects in mind. One of these, most likely, is another sailing ship. I would like to design another schooner (no longer a war schooner, without cannons) but I don't intend to give up propeller propulsion either.

    Yorkshire Belle
Hi Doug, Alive and well but spent most of this last winter trying to sort a misfire out on my Jaguar XJS V12. Not quite sure if entirely cured. Am hampered in my ability to run it at full throttle by the local Police forces! No understanding of my quest for perfection. Did potter along with my waterjet powered Swedish Interceptor based yacht. Nearly done, hence my YB inquiry. Thanks for the SARIK lead. Had already seen that but recognising the frugality of my heritage was trying to avoid paying for them! If all else fails! Keep seeing your notes on the site, so assumed all was well. Best Rowen

    Deans Marine
I don't wish to twist the blade too much but from my own experience Deans have been less than co-operative in the past. Even to the point of "staff" being rather offhand at the International Model Boat Show a few years back. I heard a rumour that the business was up for sale in the past year or so but still continuing at the moment I understand. Very sad because they have a nice range of products.

    Fighting Lights
Many thanks for the quick replies. If these lights were just high up extra navigation lights, it will be an easy fix to just wire them up with the cabin navigation lights. A bit of a let-down really as I was about to try and program a pic integrated circuit to sent out some morse !! A very big learning curve, except that I used to send out morse code as an amateur radio operator in the past as G4ZSS. It will be easy to have a switched circuit to switch these extra mast head lights on/off. Thanks for the interest I look forward to anymore comments, all the best, steve.

    Opening of the season
Ahahahahahah Hermank, you're always the same. I'm glad you appreciate Italy. I am proud of my nation, of the treasures it holds, of its history, of the men who made it great but I am also very self-critical. In this lake (which is actually artificial) inside a city park I would like to see more education and civilization. When I hear about the proverbial English education and respect for rules I am very envious. In Italy there is not much respect for the rules unfortunately and this is my regret. In Belgium you will certainly be more compliant than us with the rules and with respect for others. Anyway, congratulations to you who have created an excellent place for RC models to sail, very good.

    laser tachometer
Thanks Commodore-H for sharing this item. In fact it can be very useful to know the number of revolutions in different working conditions. It could be useful to check the effectiveness of the applied propeller or otherwise. Are you planning on doing any specific tests? If you run any tests I would be happy to see them. If you can, make videos.
