    Hints and Tips.
Great tip Colin, thanks๐Ÿ‘ Now I know how to fix a model of a boat I sailed on in Brazil several years ago 'Queen Lory' in Buzios. I was working in the Brazilian navy yard in Rio for several weeks and used to go up to Buzios at the weekends. That's the sort of thing I miss since retiring. All the office politics rubbish I don't miss at all ๐Ÿ˜‰ Managed to stick my thumb through the cabin roof of the modelโ˜น๏ธ Been thinking of scaling it up to make an RC version. I'll take some pics tomorrow. (make that later today๐Ÿ˜ฎ) Cheers, Doug PS Wadaya know! Found some pics of the original on the web! https://www.google.com/search?q=queen+lory+buzios&client=firefox-b-d&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=ouxXG__-25HQmM%253A%252CGg1hT_kx_6p82M%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kQw9hQsdZ1jaB_ASAtDMfmBHHKh4g&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiapu__0OziAhVDU1AKHZQ2D3QQ9QEwBXoECAAQBg#imgrc=ouxXG__-25HQmM:

water is wet and so was I.
Hello again Iโ€™ll experiment with various options I have in mind and see what I can cope with. With hindsight I wish Iโ€™d spent more time on the window openings before I assembled the cabins as this will affect the frames Cheers brian

    Aerokits Plans
Rookysailor wrote .....Your quite correct there Doug, this blog has been here months ago, and there were lots of moans about the plans being wrong, I never had problem with them, but have been building years๐Ÿ˜Œ I think Don will be pleased as I have just been on his website, and he has the plans for both the Sea Nymph and the Sea Urchin, which Don said he was after.๐Ÿ˜ I also found his plans were fine , they photo copies of the original, the problem was the hand drawn frames which he said were accurately drawn , they were abysmal , Stevie Wonder could have done a better job , but as the Urchin is so small I have ordered a set of plans from him and will loft my own frames from the plan and side views

    Can anyone help please?
An answer to your question about any damaged or burnt wiring. The black lead from the speed controller to the RX was completely burnt through, however the receiver has worked fine since i replaced the speed controller.

OK Martin, But what should we put in such a guide? Who can predict the myriad of potential difficulties / finger troubles new users may have? Let's do a quick poll! I'll stick up a new thread in the 'Website related' section where all you good folks can post what you are having trouble with. Then we'll see!๐Ÿ™ˆ Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Air Sea Rescue Launch 123
I heartily agree JB ๐Ÿ‘ In fact you'll probably find that most commonly used 'inexpensive' (Chinese๐Ÿ™„) ESCs will only deliver 1 or 2A through the BEC. Even folks like Action Electronics / Component Shop advise against using them with their modules. No great demand around here for snow in Juneโ„๏ธ but if you'd like to check back around Christmas time .... ๐Ÿ˜€ Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Help and advice please
Gotcha! I know it as 'Hareesa' in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. Or 'Revani' in Turkey๐Ÿ‘ The Rose Water points to the Turkish variant. Delicious๐Ÿ˜›, but I always feel a drive to clean my teeth after eating it ๐Ÿ˜ฎ You were right about the 'A' & 'E' anyway, depending on variant ๐Ÿ˜‰ I think we still have a 'Non Hobby Chit Chat' section somewhere on the Forum page. I'll check. Cheers, and Guten Appetit! Doug PS Yes the section is still there. Now called simply Non-Hobby Chat.

    Prop size and speed
Hi Sam, Yes, by all means mount the motor on an angled block of wood to align the shafts correctly. As you can see in my Sea Scout engine flat. I used a standard 400 size motor mount (from Krick) screwed down to the block. To align the shafts I used a chunk of brass rod drilled on my mini lathe to match both shaft diameters. Once you get the angle just right you can glue down the block, tack it first with cyano gel or 5 minute epoxy. When set you can remove the motor and mount fit the correct coupling. I try to avoid universal joints and use the flexible spiral types - again see the Sea Scout pic. You can also see that I took the opportunity during the refit to fit an oiler pipe as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ Epoxy the block all round. When set reassemble motor and mounting bracket and check that the shaft rotates freely without straining / bending the coupling or binding anywhere. Good luck. Cheers, Doug๐Ÿ˜Ž

    SS Torrey Canyon
I'm searching for plans (lines, body, GA etc.) for SS Torrey Canyon. Plans for the Torrey Canyon herself may be tough to come by, but I believe she was built to a common design? If so, does anyone have details? T'internet tells me she was an LR2 (any ideas if that is a class, or a specific design?) Suezmax (i.e. maximum dimensions for the canal) tanker built by the Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company and initially had an oil capacity of 60,000 tons, but was later enlarged (simply lengthened, with any luck?!) in Japan to 120,000 tons capacity. If anyone knows any more, or can even direct me to some plans, I'd be very grateful indeed! Many thanks Andy

Hi Ron, We're all guilty of not doing this with new kit, but I can only recommend, If summat's not doing what you want or expected- Read the 'destructions' ๐Ÿ˜‰ I noticed the same effect with my Sea Scout trials, then read the manual and corrected the problem in seconds! ๐Ÿ‘ Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Westbourne Models (Bournemounth)
Here in Ontario one of the best hobby shops for RC boats and sailboats is going from having a retail store where you can see and handle the merchandise to a WWW store. They are the sole distributor of Dragon line sailboats and supplies in Ontario. http://www.leadingedgehobbies.com/webstore/wecs.php I like hand selecting my balsa-sheet materials which is getting harder to find a store with stock.

    Problems uploading photos
Cash injection wouldn't really help, unless I move us all to a virtual private server and away from the shared hosting environment. It's the shared hosting which limits files... The website has previously been on virtual servers when GoDaddy hosted everything (about 3 years ago), it does have its own problems though, you get limited support from the hosting companies doing this, as they assume less responsibility for up-time and don't do their own backups. Essentially they provide a server and say "here you go"... I'm still attempting to backup the old website up (pre March), which, once done, I can delete and it'll clear some more space. Now at 81% used disk space with just cache file removal. Maybe 50% after the old website copy is removed. Apologies for the down time again โ˜น๏ธ Stephen

    C642 Mountfleets Admiralty Coaster
Hi Rossiter, Go for it ๐Ÿ‘ Since the lights could be raised and lowered I strongly suspect that they were a 'movable feast'๐Ÿ˜‰ I.e. they were changed according to circumstances, to what rules I don't know I'm afraid. But whatever colours you set will likely be correct for some application๐Ÿ˜‰ So if someone challenges this arrangement I'd very much like to know on what basis!๐Ÿ™„ Cheers, Doug
