Hi ive found a wood chart showing hardness I thought oak was a hard wood till i saw this chart some exotic types of wood listed hope this is of interest. it isnt very clear you may have to download it to make it larger .

Oak when first cut down is quite soft and ease to work. But quickly hardens with age. I have had to cut a beam hundreds of years old. as hard as iron.
