I'm a static model boat builder, I build from scratch, and have built from plans. Looking for a model building forum to share and ask questions. I've been building models for about 5 years. I'll post some pictues later.

By SpiderBruce on the 11th of February 2019:
Hello, Joined this site as returned to model boats after some years absence and think this site will be useful for info, hints etc. There are no boating hobbyist in my town, nearest boating lake is the superb one at Basingstoke, of which I am a member. Main work is finishing off a Thames Barge (kit)and a Vic Smeed designed Thornycroft MTB. Wishing you a fair wind in your sails. SpidedBruce

By Joe727 on the 3rd of January 2019:
Hello, Just been a member for a short time now and I really enjoy this site. Couple of reasons, I enjoy getting information from different parts of the world, different views. One of my main interests is English Working Sailboats, I find the feedback from the UK guys great! My ancestry is English, having sailed on the ship Abigail in 1628. My enthusiasm has been encouraged by all of the very helpful posts. Fast way to get information and collaboration.
Regards, Joe

By Hellmut1956 on the 26th of November 2018:
Always keep researching and finding plenty of useful information. Additionally, I try to share information so not all disappears because of forums closing. Besides, trying to explain and to present was I am doing is a good way to massage my knowledge and my projects to get new perspectives.

By RNinMunich on the 27th of September 2018:
Hi All. Many may already recognise the 'nutter from Munich' 😁
but I just wanted to say-
I first stumbled across this site and enrolled here in 2014 but was still in harness and trundling around the world working with various navies and shipyards on all sorts of naval ships from small Fast Patrol Boats through subs, Corvettes and Frigates up to LPDs, Heli and Escort Carriers. So I didn't have much time for model building (sounds better than 'Modelling' somehow 😁😲) or contributions to the site, but I did try to keep up to date with advances, as I always did in my profession - Naval COMMS systems - and dipped in and out of this site without getting involved.
Since I retired last year I have become an active member and have also dipped into, and registered with some, other Model Boat forums in various countries.
But in all of them I have never found such an international, friendly and knowledgable bunch as on this site. Or such a well organised site where it is 'relatively' easy to find the info you need, or to just ask and get informed answers pronto. Sure there is room for improvement in some areas but "Tempus fugit" and things move on - so is it also on this site.
I understand that a facelift and changes are afoot😉 whatever the outcome I'm sure you won't find a better web site for informed (bin there done that!) info on model boat / ship building as well as research on the original vessels this side of the asteroid belt!
Welcome aboard and Happy Building and Sailing,
All the best, cheers, Doug 😎

By sharkey on the 16th of August 2018:
Joined a few days ago after retiring from abroad (18 years) and bringing my Krick "Victoria" down, from its well-cosseted storage in my loft. I put her together over 30 years ago... placed new batteries in the R/C... water, gas, squirt of oil on the engine, a long (lit) spill... and yippeeee!
Just smartening her up now.
A great site! Thank you

By East-RN on the 22nd of July 2018:
A place to seek advise and help. Also, a place to join a chat and help and advise others about the problems you overcame.
A good friendly place to find out what is going on around you and where you can join in.
Remember, there is no such thing as a "Stupid Question". We have all had that moment.
No one person has All the answers, but with all these members, someone will know the answer.
😁😜👍 May the Sun be Forever on your Face, and the Wind Forever on your Back.
Love this Site.

By jacko on the 20th of July 2018:
hi all joined a few days ago and would like to say thanks for your support in my attempt to restore a vintage yacht

By Kipper on the 16th of June 2018:
Hi to all, been a member for a long while, not posted much but have got a lot of good tips from reading others posts. 👍

By BigAlio on the 10th of April 2018:
Hello been a member since January had plenty of help and advice
great sense of camaraderie keep up the good work

By MouldBuilder on the 12th of March 2018:
I have been a member of the forum for just over a week.
I have to say that the help given by members is without limits. I am so pleased that I found these people. They enjoy the hobby and have no problem in sharing their knowledge and experiences even when they are busy with their own projects.
I built a Patrol Torpedo Boat many years ago and wanted to refurbish it. The changes in the hobby which have taken place in the twenty years since I built my boat have surprised me. My project has grown from just tidying up the deck to a complete replacement of the motor and control.
I now know that I can continue with the improvements knowing that there is a freindly helping hand just a few clicks away.
My thanks to you all, and in a few years time I hope to be able to help others.😊
Peter. Paignton, England.

By Donnieboy on the 7th of March 2018:
I signed on in January this year and was amazed at how many projects are on the go.The advice that is being offered so freely
makes me feel good about this site. The quality of workmanship
that people are showing is amazing. As soon as my obligations are
completed I will get back to my building of the Model Slipway kit
of the Shamrock.

By SelwynWilliams on the 26th of January 2018:
I do a lot of wreck research and one of the reasons I joined was to find a sea plane tender that had picked up the pilot from a 1941 plane I had found underwater. I needed a photo of a similar boat but couldn't find the tender on the web. I mentioned it on here and back came a photo of the self same sea plane tender from RNMunich? That meant so much to me but I have been intrigued by the details and research modellers do on here. I felt so grateful that I donated to such a great site.

By Spitfire99 on the 26th of January 2018:
Love this site
It's helped me out and saved me a packet when it comes to electrics (ESC) and brushless motors 👍

By Bryan-the-pirate on the 7th of December 2017:
I have just joined and am looking to pick the brains of the best as I progress in the hobby.👍

By Brightwork on the 5th of November 2017:
I really love this site. I have been to many model boat sites, but this is the best I have found. The layout and ease of use is great. I thoroughly enjoy looking at the other modeller's harbours and builds. If you are boat blind like I am, this is model boat porn to me.

By Les-Forbes on the 18th of September 2017:
It has and in many ways. I'm sailing for my little grandson who is only two. I have never sailed a model boat before, be it motor or yacht. But I'm determined to learn to pass on the him when is older. The articles you present are very informative and your club listings are excellent. I'm confident Ill continue to associate myself with your website and continue to learn.

By Tooley on the 9th of August 2017:
Hi - I'm new to building - I have purchased MMM "Canning". I hope I can get some tips and know how from the many members on this site. - I have cut many parts from cardboard as templates. Looks like I have to build rudder and place motor in position before too long. Any advice gratefully received - thanks. Paul - Australia

By chugalone100 on the 4th of July 2017:
What else can I add besides all of the great complements and appreciations others have left about this website.
Knowledge and experience is what this website is all about.
We as rookies need them both to build our models, so anything we need is right here.
At first I was a bit intimidated about my build, now I can sleep with no worries knowing that some great guy will jump eagerly to answer our questions .
This website is our best tool.
Julian from Miami

p.s. don't forget to contribute.👍

By NickW on the 9th of June 2017:
This is an excellent site for information, help, advice and tips...i'm new to radio controlled a short time since I joined I now have 8!! space left so thinking of moving into a 40ft container!!! Anyway just like to say thanks to the members who have answered my calls for help and advice...without you guys who've been there, done it, and now wear the shirt i'd still be drawing stick animals in my cave so a big thank you from my neck of the woods here in Dingle land :-)

By IanD on the 16th of April 2017:
Hi, I have kept safely and replaced the old IC set up in my 1960's Aerokit Sea Commander with a modern electric system. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that I was given the right advice and although the boat runs ok, it is slow, only reaching what I would call a scale “river-cruising” speed. I would like it to be capable of a bit more (without reaching “racing” speed) and wondered if anybody can advise me on a more suitable engine/battery/controller configuration?

I am currently using an MFA Torpedo 500 motor powered by a VP 3700 7.2v 3700mAh battery pack through a Fusion Aquapower 128 (128A max continuous current) controller.

Any pointers will be gratefully welcomed.

By none on the 19th of March 2017:
The website has been of great interest and useful to me as a starting point for modeling.
Been modeling for just a short while and have received some good advice .

Not the sort of website that is so over busy as you can follow posts and blogs at a slow and informative pace.
All the members are friendly and helpful.
A great all round forum for modeling.

Hi all, I joined the forum a day or so ago and have found it to be very useful. I have recently ordered myself a Vintage Model Works 46" RAF Crash Tender. It's my first boat but I have built a few aircraft over the years so hope that will help me. I have already gained some useful tips from the build blogs etc. and I'm sure I will be asking for lots of help and advice, thanks everyone, Ian.

Hi I am from Boston, and have two Remote control lobster boats, but I use your site for building scale boats, and now currently building the bluenose, Around Boston there is only 1 club that is far away, plus in the USA everything is going away from built to manufactured ready to go. I enjoy seeing and building a model from scratch they way it was years ago, we have a long snow season.Enjoy reading everything, from across pond I can see you people do a great job. Thanks silverbullit

Hi All, stumbled on this site, probably pressed the wrong key in Google!. Been a boat modeller forever but always learning something new. It's a great read and an interesting site so hope I'll get round to chatting to loads of you in time, for the moment just seeing how it all works

By IanD on the 21st of August 2016:
I have recently inherited my Dad's 1960's Aerokits Sea Commander still in its original state with 3.5cc diesel IC and his own self-designed and scratch-built electrics. This is the boat that won the "M.P.B.A. R/C Speed Championship 3.5cc" in 1963. I would love to convert it to electric motor and modern r/c, preferably without destroying any vintage interest it may have, and see it running again but I think I'm going to need a lot of advice as I am a complete modelling novice. Hoping to show it on the South Manchester Model Boat Club stand at Haydock next weekend.

I've been away from model boating for some 25-30 yrs now! But having completed my model tugboat I decided to look for a website regarding model boats. I guess I've found a new home! you guys are awesome and thanks for the help in the forum... 👍

By johnfastboat on the 5th of April 2016:
As I moved to Devon just over two years ago I am currently not a member of a club or have my workshop up and running. I have a substantial fleet of all types of boat and will hopefully get back into restoration and new models as well as getting my substantial fleet back to operational status.
The SITE allows me to keep in touch with current modellers and offer an association help where I can.

Just kind of stumbled across this site as I was trying to find out what had happened to eezibilt web site.
I am in the process or should that be building a Tortola sloop, well it will be my version as it seems there are variations on the theme..( as in music) , I'm also making a X2 version of Eezibulit Curlew, I've done the original and a 75% version. 1.5 X version, so now I'm going for the big one, TWICE the size, comes out at 20 and a 1/2 inches. might be a bit more once the skins are on?
I made a larger version of Mermaid but thought it didnt look too great...the original I have sailed on Loch Ken in Scotland, a long way to go to sail a boat but I was on holiday up there. I think along with Curlew they are nice little boats.
Just one other question Does anyone know the whereabouts of HArry Duncan I was emailing him up to a while ago but now he seems to have gone awol?
Dont forget to ring 5 and go sideways... 💭

Looked at a few sites for help and information with my first boat and this was the ONLY one that seems as it should be 'Helpful and Friendly'. Read a few posts and saw--- No clicks, no my boats better than your boat and no superiority complexes which is rare in a lot of groups or forums. Signed up straightaway.

HI There

Bit of a newby to the world of Boating, but Beached here through finding building plans for a Vospers 46 Fire Tender.

Being a bit of a practical person I was considering building one for my partner as her father used to have one some years ago.

Hopefully this may be the place to assist In this over time.

By DaveJay on the 4th of June 2013:
HI peeps,
Found this site via an ad In the july Issue of model boats mag, glad I looked It up, Its a good and fresh site with a wide spectrum of Interests and abilities on show. I'm at present learning to sail my 'Phantom' yacht and between sailing sessions and when time allows I am working on a coaster In 1/48th scale based upon the models by design (ex metcalf) Pateke, I say based upon as I am converting her to Incorporate aspects of coaster designs of the 50's and 60's, so therefore she Is a freelance model, I'm trying to Incorporate as much detail as possible, building the superstructure at present with full wheelhouse detail all scratchbuilt. I'm quite new at model shipbuilding but not new to model building, been plastic kit-bashing for 20 years ...........have Interest In building fleetscales HMS Starling but as the Opossum as this was my dad's ship In 1954-56......if anyone has more details on this ship I would love to see more close up pics If poss!!!......all the best fellow shipmates!

Hello to all members, stumbled on this site while looking for raf fire boat Info, Im scaling a model from a photo to give me something to do In retirement, I have made It roughly three ft which seems to be the average size on here. I dont expect It will be to the excellent standard that some of you have built but I will enjoy myself In the process. Will put some pics on from time to time as the build progresses.
Happy modeling to you all

like others It's been a few years since I was active In the model boating world, been building and flying aircraft.
Long may It run.

By tompallister on the 25th of April 2012:
This has been the best site for almost everything to do with model boats. I re-entered the hobby about 2 years ago and new nothing of the major developments over a 40 year absence. Being a Fireboat nut, joining this site was a natural and gave me more Info than I needed at first and encouragement to branch out Into scratch building, tugs other Aerokits models and more

By peep31 on the 24th of April 2012:
I think this Is the best website on the web It has told me so much from all the great members It has, I have now got the bug of boat building and I can't leave It alone my my says I should move Into my shed now I spend so much time In It.once again great site and keep up the good work from all who organised It many thanks Arthur 👍

By Dave M on the 13th of April 2012:
I originally joined the site after I acquired a 34" model Fireboat. 😊 I was not new to modelling but required the detailed Information to restore my model. I learnt so much about Fireboats and even the best motors, props, ESC and battery to use. The help freely given by Fireboat members encouraged me to share some of my own knowledge via the Forums and Blogs. 😉 The recent name change has opened the site to all modellers and I look forward to sharing model boat knowledge with an even wider audience.
Stephen (Fireboat) Is to be congratulated In hosting such a brilliant site 😀

By Gregg on the 31st of March 2012:
Iv'e been registered on this website for over 12 months now and Its jam packed with Information and detail. All you need Is enough time to find It all. go ahead, surprise yourself and scroll through some of the pages, you will find things out, you have very often wondered about !

I found this website when trying to help my father In law with his models. Now unfortunately he has passed away. But the boats live on with me, and thanks to advice from the members of this fantastic site. I thank you all, and look forward to building and restoring many more boats.

Hi, I have a 34inch Fire Tender, bought second hand In 1979.Originally I/c (signs of original fit),electric Is the only way to go! I have new brass prop, shaft - In fact all the running gear and am ready to plan Installation. Discovering this site Is a real boon! Am In Loughborough so Watermead Park Is Ideal!

Terrific site, how many members have gained valuable Info and been able to pass on Info, the site has no doubt boosted the Fireboat Funday, and even gained scorn from a Colonial who I refuse to name that due to the success of F.F.D and this site the s/h price of Fireboats has rocketed and guess who has been blamed ? but Lyle (oops!) still remains a good mate and Its good he Is 10,500 miles away.
Cheers to all, Pete D.
