Built this with a friend who built RMS Titanic at the same time. Plans by Dr Haan at a scale of 1:96. Motors are 555 and the centre prop has 4 blades. The ballast is 76Kg carried in 3 boxes and placed in the hull at the waterside. I have still to finish some detailing and with such a large model this can take years.

    Yes
Guilty as charged. Not sure why I chose 976 but it was unused. Full marks for you logic though.
Yes Bill Lucy and I built the Titanic and Olympic at his smallholding. Sadly Bill is no longer mobile and resides in a care home. He sold his Titanic a few year ago when his health started to deteriorate. I had a spell in Hospital in the fall of 2019 when I contracted Guillain Barre Syndrone. Has taken me a couple of years to recover and still don't have the energy I used to have.
I still have that small geared motor. Bought from the USA if I remember. Not actually used yet. A good source of cheap motors can be found in old discarded cameras. They are low voltage precision types, picked that up from a fellow Ship Modeller member whose wife worked in a charity shop.
Always happy to help fellow modellers build and sail their creations.
    Happy days
    Dave

    Aha! Now I understand where '976' comes from;
    9 feet long, 76kg ballast!
A superb model and an ambitious undertaking; as I believe I have commented in similar vein before. A very strong sense of dรฉjร  vu here ๐Ÿ˜‰
The friend wouldn't happen to be Bill Lucy would it??
Can it be that our prodigal Vice Admiral is working his way back up through the ranks again?
I hope so ๐Ÿ˜€ and if so A VERY HEARTY WELCOME BACK SHIPMATE V.ADMIRAL DAVE ๐Ÿ‘
Your wealth of knowledge and expertise has been sorely missed.

A few clues! (Got my sleuthing specs on ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜)
*Started wondering when I saw your Flower class photo, KNEW I'd seen that ONE before ๐Ÿ˜Ž
*Wondered a lot more when I saw who had posted the Puffer vid on You Tube, and from Crewe MBC no less.
*Was dead certain when I saw these Photos.
2nd one is identical to one in your Build Blog. 'Olympic Launched'.
The other three are the same motifs, just from slightly different angles, as can also be seen in your Blog.

All the best to you and yours Dave. (How's Bill?)
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž
PS I never did find those GizmoZone miniature motors and gearboxes ๐Ÿค”
