1/48 Scale SS Talacre, 3 year build, Foggy Smoke unit, Sound and lights.

I might use a smaller lighter battery to bring the ship out of the water as she sits a wee bit too low.

    all the best George

    George,
She sits just a bit stern low/bow high so I reckon all you need to do is to shift some weight (battery?) forward. Then you don't need to reduce the battery, and thus the endurance.
I'd try that first and test it in the Domestic Test Tank (AKA bathtub๐Ÿ˜).

Ta, the only weight in the back is the RC equipment, the rear Cabin is pretty heavy so no scope for removing anything from the rear so bit snookered there!

    Mornin' George,
" ...no scope for removing anything from the rear so bit snookered there! "
Don't think you're stuck behind the black just yet๐Ÿ˜‰
Try a masse shot and nudge the battery forward a tad.

" the only weight in the back is the RC equipment, "
    Hmm! Where's the battery then?
If it's forward of the CoG and you reduce it's weight you'll just lift the bow further out of the wet stuff๐Ÿค”
If it is forward and you can't move it you might even be able to put a slightly larger capacity (hence weight) battery in to tilt the bow down.
If not try a little extra ballast as far forward as you can get it to maximise the leverage over the CoG. Against the stem post is good๐Ÿ‘
    Good luck, cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Hell RNM,

Heres a few pictures of the build so it might explain what I am working with.

I am fairly constrained with the mast to enable me to move the Battery Forward to bring the Stern up a bit. Mid you when she is lighter she bobs around a bit too much.

I think I will try a smaller battery and push it up further like you suggest with some lead ballast to assist.

I should of posted these photos first but I usually do things A$$ ways anyhow!!

    regards

    George

Thanks for the excellent photos George๐Ÿ‘
Now we know how she looked 'as built',
Before flogging up and down the Liffey for a few years๐Ÿ˜‰
Carrying crates and barrels of Guinness I presume ๐Ÿ˜‹

I see your problem with the SLA๐Ÿค”
Looks like it's sitting more or less amidships already.

If I were you, before forking out for another battery, I would just try adding some ballast as far forward as you can possibly get it.
Spending for another battery as LAST RESORT!!
Had a similar problem with the SLA's recommended for my HMS Belfast.
They wouldn't fit through the hatches and passed the motors and shafts! ๐Ÿ˜ญ
So I had to buy๐Ÿ˜  more batteries of a slighter longer, narrower and flatter format which went in on their side and I could then slide them around to help trim the ship.
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Ah Don't worry, I have a 12v 2.8MAH already on charge and it fits in quite snugly so it will enable me to shove more ballast up front. I'll stick another piccy up when I manage to get out again...๐Ÿคž

Have you a thread on the Belfast somewhere?

I need to sit down and trawl through this site!

    Mornin' ๐Ÿ˜ฎ George,
No, no Build Blog on the Belfast, just a Harbour entry.
I bought it built supposedly for some 'quick fun' while other complex long term projects were on the bench. Didn't turn out that way๐Ÿค”
It's a Graupner 'Premium Line' model.
But I didn't find it all that 'Premium'โ˜น๏ธ
Several cosmetic defects and recommended SLA batteries don't fit.
Props are plastic and only held on to the shafts by grub screws, and two were cracked.
Presumably overtightened in the factory on assembly.
I now have a set of brass props to fit but need to thread the shafts first.
So she's in dry dock for a refit at the moment.
Same with my Graupner Graf Spee, needs new shafts.
Same problems as Belfast plus starboard shaft was bent!๐Ÿ˜
Yes, a trawl through this site is well worth the time๐Ÿ‘
There's loads of helpful 'been there dun that' blokes here who are ready and willing to offer help and advice on all kinds of scale/fantasy ships and boats as well as electronics and motors / EScs etc etc. A trawl through the Build Blogs is an education in itself.
Most of us include posts on what went wrong as well, in the hope that we can help others to avoid falling into the same traps!
So, appropriate for these 'Shutdown Days'๐Ÿค”, make a pile of sandwiches, make sure the coffee machine is loaded and the fridge is well stocked with Kilkenny&Guinness (maybe the odd bottle of chardonnay๐Ÿ˜‹) and prepare to trawl๐Ÿ˜Š You won't be disappointed.
Remember, someone is always here (or in Canada, USA, New Zealand, Australia or almost anywhere) to help and answer your questions.
    Have fun๐Ÿ‘
    Cheers, Doug ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Ta mate,

The battery is a fore as it will go, it went into dry dock this pm and I did have some ballast in the aft section to took a wee bit of that out to see how that is. Need to fill the test tank shortly!

Cheers Doug, Thats looks nice. Tempted for a Warship for the next build or Maybe the Caldercraft Schaarhorn as I have been on that ship on a visit to Hamburg. Incidentally I was meant to have a trip on it in May for the Hamburg Port Anniversary but that is now Kaput as they say.

PS I am down in Cork so it is Beamish or Murphys for the local Tipple!

    A very nice subject George๐Ÿ‘
Would look brilliant (weak pun intended๐Ÿ˜) at a Twilight Regatta.
Yep, our planned trip to the the Baltic coast has gone down the tube as well.

Don't remember Beamish but Murphys of course๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‹
As you may have noticed from some of my posts, I've been down your way, and kissed the famous 'Stone' many years ago. It's effect seems very long lasting!
    Stay safe!

Hi RinMunich, I went to Hamburgh and saw the various ships in a historic part of the harbour, several of them available as kits. That was maybe 7 years back now.
The BIG model railway has to be worth going to see, it is stunning in the numbers of Layouts by Country that there are, and all sequencing through night and day avery 20 minutes or so. There is a very nice waterway with ships sailing as well.
I expect it has moved on again since I was there. Needs about 4 days minimum and do'nt forget a boat trip around the harbour area, it is all on a very big scale.
    Amazing visit.
