here is my 2nd Graupner Carina ( after the 1st one I just wanted to built another one and Ebay supplied - again- a 'barely started' set. Taking apart the glued wooden parts was a bit of a challenge. However, the previous owner used cheap glue and all the parts could be dismounted without any damage. (will post more pictures of the rebuilt ) Attached Photos - Click To View Large |

This is Swede Johnson and his yawl along with it's captain -Popeye. Swede pasted away several years back, I wanted to post this in his memory. He scratch built all of his boats over the years and was well know for his leading edge designs like the US1 Meters and Marbleheads. He taught me to scratch build boats and sails for racing yachts to schooners. Yes, Popeye's arm moves with the acting tiller.

This time I want to show the process after removing the now sanded hull. You get a first view of having me removing the frames and starting to fill lead into the wooden hull. In the last photo, you can appreciate the benefits of removing all frames from within the hull. The surface inside the hull is ready for further processing.

This yacht was purchased on a whim ? i spotted it for sail locally and thought it was about 30 inches high. i had a shock on collection as its over 40 inches high and 3foot long.lt needed some attention to the electrics and transmitter and a lot of tlc. i think its big enough for my jack russell to curcumnavigate the world single footed ! When I was in high school back in 1957 I built a kit of the Comet Gypsy Sloop Jr. In 2016 I found the drawings on-line for the Gypsy Jr. The boat was entered in woodworking class at our county fair where it received a blue ribbon. It has a working wheel that turns the rudder. Now I have under construction a 32 inch version that I would like to radio control. I'm not too sure how to set up or what type of servo to install.
