This is a Graupner Premium Line.I wasn't happy with the universals and plastic 3 bladed props.Replaced the universals and changed props to 4 bladed brass. Also changed the prop shaft to a threaded 4mm shaft which I happened to have in my spares. She runs a lot better now with these changes.Still to come is lighting and sound. Tug renovation/converstion
Picked up a rather battered wooden hulled
    amsterdam
tug last Thursday. The intention is to give it some much needed TLC and convert it to one of the French Tenace Class tugs. It will be used as my clubs camera / rescue boat so accuracy and detail will come second to the functionality of its role. Currently I have stripped out everything except the motor so I can fit some strengthening and improve the watertightness of the hull

Send me a PM and i will email all the photos and instructions to you. There were 2 versions the instructions cover the moulded hull but the rest is virtually the same. Also 3 tugs were built 2 for the French navy, will include these as well. Mark

Hi Derek, see your point mate, but when you view the initial question and answer, they are good to experiment with, not costing a lot to make a mess of when it goes wrong. Think of the burn time of crimbo lights, on any boat they will last a long time. so why pay more for better????? About the Waterline on Serenity
OOOHH your sailing close to the wind, if she sees this your dead!!!! Had a close look at the hull, being long and narrow you will get it rolling, if you can alter the ballast, making it long and thin right into the keel line this will reduce the roll IE fitted between the bulkheads and along side the keel, possibly with lead shot the finer the better so it will compact down as low as possible. An alternative would be a detachable keel, screwed to the hull on the outside, so lowering the moment of roll below the hull. My
    amsterdam
suffers the same problem, this was helped by adding bilge keels to the hull, the real
    amsterdam
was a real pig reports say she could roll on a mill pond, caused by the round bilge hull having no grip or stability once the roll starts Mark

    Spraying hulls
Alan P Be careful about WD40 or any of the other type of surface oilers/ cleaners some of them contain silicone as a water displacer, its superb for displacing paint. If your masking tape is leaving residue it is probably out of date, paper absorbs moisture and can leave the glue behind. Good for sticking parcels but not on our precious paintwork. Vinyl tape is ok but again use it quick, don't by bargain packs of tape, by top quality, 3M etc, or talk to your local car body shop, they might sell you a roll of the tape they use, they might even offer to give you a master class of masking up. Mine did, thought I was a bit of a nutter at first but showed him my Tug
