Yes , I can remember one pleasant afternoon the police were called to the lake, as a free sailing member got nasty and a fight nearly broke out, over pottering about with a sunday hobby. It was at that stage I finally gave up, and started making a coal fired traction engine instead. 😁👍 (make steam not war!!) Stephen

Update from MFA Como The motors, as they are, sufficiently comply with CE regulations for electrical emissions. However, sometimes with radio control you may need the extra suppression to stop radio interference. Initially try one capacitor across the terminals, this is usually a 0.22uf.

I had understood that this was an 'old motor'. Could have meant decades! Quote: "old Brushed motors MFA850" But an extra .047 across the terminals won't hurt. Re: Fail Safe; a common problem as 99% of sets are pre-programmed for the Fly boys. First thing I do with a new set is delete all the presets for fixed wing / Heli and reprogramme to do what I want and on the stick, switch or knob that I want. Throttle Fail Safe on a plane is often equivalent to throttle stick right back since plane ESCs don't go in reverse the motor just stops. Can have some interesting effects on a boat ESC with reverse though !!!😲 Happy Trialling 😎

The motor is only a few months old, bought new for Howe's models. I've heard of old radio caps going dry and I means after 40 years of service, since the brother in law repairs old radios and juke boxes. But not capacitors after 16 weeks, the motors only done 3 or 4 hours of service in total. I've added an additional cap across the terminals. I also had a reply from the speed controller company they said to check the fail safe on the transmitter which incidentally is working to kill the throttle channel as its a fly sky intended for a (plane).

That's an odd thing to say. They don't last for ever,especially if they are not used. What about being stuck in shops or wharehouse's and not bought for years. They wouldn't be any good then when you buy them. Surely capacitors don't have a shelf life. I could understand them breaking down when constantly being used.

How old is the motor? Capacitors don't last forever, especially if they are not used (volts applied) for several years.

Hi, I don't believe the motor has internal suppression! I have the full motor spec from MFA/Como drills and there is no mention of it. Would be most unusual. https://www.mfacomodrills.com/motors/motors.html

I thought that initially, but apparently the MFA 850 has suppression built into the motor internal already, so no need to add any external caps according to google. I think Dennis is more to blame.

Hi Novagsi0, From the video and pics I see two problems! 1. Ship the fenders before sailing. They seem to be throwing water up onto and into cabin and cockpit. 😆 Bad practice to sail with fenders out anyway. 'Just not done old chap' 😉 2. You have a brushed motor and no spark suppression so it can create interference with the receiver and may also directly affect the ESC. Look here for info on motor suppression. https://model-boats.com/rc/motors/suppression Cheers Doug 😎 PS: think maybe you should raise the coaming around the deck access as well! Making it as tight a fit as possible.

Dennis The Menace, the captain at the helm strikes again, after a radio outage the cockpit ended up full of water up to his waist. Some fresh paint need on the bow. Need to find out why the speed controller without warning goes mad. Tio Marine 50A ESC and fly sky receiver paring.

Pilot Boat

Recently built from an Aeronaut kit, this is a 1/24th scale Pilot Boat based on a German design. Powered by two 540 brushed motors with 3 bladed brass props it attains something like scale speed. The colour is Volkswagen Bright Orange, courtesy of Halfords and the non-slip deck is acrylic green mixed with silver sand then covered with a silk finish varnish. The boat was filmed at an illuminated regatta staged by Model Yacht and Power Boat Club on their lake in , Birmingham %u2003

This is a video of my little Toby Tug (a seaport workboat in a previous life) very generously given to me by Bob Hutton from Stourbridge Model Boat club. it's shown at Tug Day yesterday (5th June 2016) on a Tug Tow of a 10 ft tanker - two small tugs giving it a try, when calamity - the front Tug got swamped by another (not very well-behaved) passerby and capsized - leaving Toby to pull both boats back to shore.. Enjoy!

Model Yacht and Power Boat club is happy to announce the Tug Day. Dedicated to tugs only but open to all to show and sail their models. Tug towing competition is being held for the skippers/ teams that want to work their Tugs by pulling a 10ft tanker around a course. There will also be a tug of war completion were we pit tug against tug to see who has the Powerful tug on the day. A bollard pull will also be rigged up to see what your model is pulling plus free sailing. Friday 8th November to Sunday 10th November 2013 Warwickshire Exhibition Centre, Fosse Way, Nr Leamington Spa, CV31 1XN 10.00am - 4.00pm Daily. Last admissions one hour before at 3pm. The annual International Model Boat Show, widely regarded as the premier model boat show In the UK, will place from 8th to 10th November 2013 at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre. Visitors are guaranteed a packed hall with over 600 models on the club and society displays, demonstrations and attendance by leading specialist suppliers. Over 3000 visitors are expected to attend the show, which Is regarded as one of the premier model boat shows In the UK. Around 30 clubs and societies will attend the exhibition with some of the finest marine models on show. Update for September 2013

Still a long way off from finishing this model! But so far all is going well, some ballast was removed from the stern after a sail round pool a few weeks past! I would like it finished by spring of next year! Oh yes aerial trouble has been sorted! LOL thanks to some fish tank air pipe
