Aziz, Westerriff, Assurance Envoy for sale
Just a quick update to announce that AZIZ has now been sold, and is planned to be back in the water in the coming weeks. The purchaser has kindly made a very, very generous contribution, over and above the agreed purchase price, and this has been added to a
    donation
that has been made to the site. Should the forthcoming pre-sale viewing of ENVOY be successful, a further
    donation
will be made. Thank you for your very kind interest in this craft. Dave

Aziz, Westerriff, Assurance Envoy for sale
Thank you for your kind comments, and yes, all of the ships have been built to a very fine standard. With the Aziz already fitted with two motors and rudder servo, there is little to do in order to set sail. They have all sailed previously, and I think that some of the RC components may have been transferred from one to the other, dependant upon the flavour of the month at the time. I can't sing the praises of these craft enough, they are impressive in every respect. They aren't in the way yet, but I am fearful that constant working around them could result in damage, so they sooner they sail off into the distance, the better. :-) Don't be afraid to make an offer, I do need to sell them all. Many thanks, Dave ( the site will also benefit from a sale, as a suitable
    donation
    will be made ).

    Robbe Westerriff lotse pilot vessel
This boat is understood to be a Robbe 1:25 kit, constructed to a very high standard, and is the pilot vessel Westerriff. The craft is finished to the most exacting of standards and, whilst fitted with a motor, bow thruster and lots of wiring, will need additions and finishing to perform, with, battery, radio gear etc required. ( I also note there is no servo for the rudder ). It has sailed previously, and is provided with many attractive features, including operating water cannon, rotating radar, operating mast lights ( numerous ). The length is 106 cms, or a tad under 42 inches in old money.( The craft is supplied without the stand that is shown in the images. I am presently looking for a suitable stand, so if there is one out there to be had, please do let me ( or the new purchaser ) know. If further info or images is/are required, please do let me know. Again, I am looking for a reasonable and realistic offer for the boat, and all offers will be considered. The craft is presently moored alongside the previously mentioned Assurance class armed tug in South Manchester. ( also, the least I can do is to ensure that a suitable
    donation
is made to the site following the sale of any of the craft that I am offering for sale ).

Looking for North East Coble boat
I am afraid this does not answer your enquiry but is I think of general interest for anyone interested in Cobles. I was walking around Bridlington harbour yesterday and came across a mini museum devoted to cobles. it was only three small rooms but they were full of coble memorabilia. Several model cobles as well as other local fishing vessels and a local grab dredger. Numerous photos and other ephemera as well as various bits and pieces all to do with cobles. it's run by volunteers from the Bridlington Sailing Coble Preservation Society. Entry is free, but
    donation
s are welcome. They also run an event called the Bridlington Sailing Coble Festival which is in July this year. There were a number of working cobles in the harbour as well as two beautifully preserved sailing cobles. As somebody interested in all traditional sailing/working craft, I found this little museum well worth visiting and thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

    Fairey Hunsman renovation part 2
The boat was free but I gave a small
    donation
to the club,(Darlington & District Model Boat Club). Started by removing all hardware, motor mounts, prop shaft, rudder, water-scoops and outlets. Next fill the holes I have made, remove some excess wood. roughly sand down hull. Foam bow area, and glue crack in deck. Find a lot of damage to the fibreglass hull, large chips out of the gel coat and associated stress fractures, and other spider web cracks. Drimmel all crack lines and open up chips and dents, then fill with a filler. an experimental mix of P38 and Araldite, hope it works. Start planning drive options I have a number of items that I have brought and not used that will be put in this boat, otherwise they may never find a home. last picture shows drive option to use up components.

    s - Thank You
Hi All, Just a quick thank you to everyone who donated in 2017 and so far in 2018. It's only with the kind contribution of members this website keeps going. Advertising helps, but it doesn't fully cover the costs of hosting, domains, mobile apps, security certificates and upkeep on its own. A few things on here are due an overhaul again, usually I take time out at Christmas to overhaul sections of the website, but this Christmas break was too hectic, so the website had to take the back seat (or the stern perch). Going forward it's still a life project that continues for me. The website will turn 11 this year, it's come a long way in that time. Originally just static pages, people would email photos of their boats and I'd manually put them online. Laughably unsustainable these days if that still happened, so I must thank you all for keeping the ship sailing, the engines firing and the masts raised! I'd still like to overhaul the website, so amongst juggling a job and other commitments I will be working on this. If you haven't yet but would like to do so, please consider donating. The average
    donation
last year was Β£8 - so an even bigger thank you to those who stretched a bit further.
    donation
s can be sent securely through PayPal – just click the amount you’d like to donate in the left side panel on the website or at the bottom of the home tab on the mobile app. If your local currency isn't GBP, PayPal will let you enter a value in your local currency. Cash and cheques are accepted although less preferred because of security. If you wish to do this anyway, please PM me for details. Many thanks once again, Happy 11th Birthday to the website and Best Wishes to everyone for 2018! Stephen

Hi Spitfire Glad to hear that you will be supporting the site's running costs. Stephen (Fireboat) runs this free site entirely on
    donation
s so every little bit helps. Doug has answered your question re wiring the brushless motor to the ESC. I would just add that you should not swop any wires whilst the battery is connected. I would also advise that you fit a fuse between the main battery and the ESCs. Brushless motors can draw very heavy currents when stalled or overloaded. A fuse rated just above your running current and no more than 50% of your ESC rating. I am assuming here that your wiring is capable of carrying this current? If you haven't got one I suggest you purchase a wattmeter so you can measure the current drawn under load (hold the boat in water and run at full wack). This must not be greater than the Motor or ESC rating. A smaller prop will reduce the current. Please keep us posted

    Motor problem
Hi Richard I'm going to be blunt here, no intention to offend, but, You get a
    donation
of some random ancient 4BA prop, you are no further on, as you are stuck with one prop. You have yet to decide which size prop will suit, and, as time goes by, and you consider updating your drive train, that 4BA is going to continually hold you back. Get it out, a new propshaft, 4mm, or even 5mm (all my boats run 5mm) might even fit your original outershaft and away you go. Slightly off topic, but, the cost of very average brushed motors and yesterday technology is now more expensive than Brushless, which is way more efficient, I wonder how much longer the model shops can survive touting this over priced dated equipment, RC Boats is the only RC discipline holding on to this out of date technology. Back on topic!🀐 You could also see if you have any room to cut the threaded end off, and visit the local engineering shop, get them to thread the end 4mm or whatever suits. I remember beiung in exactly the same position on my first serious boat, my 36" aerokits Fireboat, build in the sixties by my uncle. I was with my mate, and mentor, having the exact same conversation, I was holding on, saying I'm not changing the shaft, he dropped something on the floor, I bent down, when I stood up, he had a pair of molegrips dragging the propshaft out, I could have cried, but never looked back. I then did extensive testing with a load of cheap props, and when I got it sorted, treated myself to a real nice brass prop, size based on the testing resultsπŸ‘

    Website upgrade coming soon!
Hi figtree, I've just put the ships horns back! They used to use a flash plugin so I removed the feature to speed up the website and avoid all the warning messages browsers give about flash. Now they're re-implemented using HTML5 which is much cleaner. @Robbob, pleased you like the site upgrade too! The world of emoji/emoticon/smileys is confusing. The website has replaced smileys with emojis now. Smileys were little pictures that replaced text characters, I did have control over how they look, but it becomes messy as many people use smart phones and you get a mix of smileys and emojis. Emoji are actual characters, like letters. The problem is though, they're displayed in a whole range of different ways. An emoji in Firefox will look different in internet Explorer, different again in Gmail, different again on an Android phone, different again on an Apple device. it is a pitty there was no alignment by companies! It does save downloading many little graphic files though and it helps the website speed. Also.... there are hundreds of emoji's to choose from. The website has a handful of common ones to pick from, but it's not limited really. All

s gratefully received. Unfortunately no big company pays me to keep the site afloat! I just know a lot of people enjoy it and I take some personal pride in having built it up to where it is today. it's all hand coded, no bought packages, I don't think any off the shelf package would give the same experience! Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone 😊 Stephen

Hi Stephen. Congratulations on your successful upgrade of the site, I have just submitted a couple of build blog updates and I'ts a so nice not to have to go back in to correct the punctuation and odd capitalisations, and it's really great that I can post more than four pictures now 😊. On minor niggle... the smileys or emoticons, whatever the are called, seem to have lost their appealing characteristics and look a bit dull compared to their previous incarnations 😑. Curiously, they look better and in colour on my 'phone using the mobile app but just grey 'ghost' outlines on my PC....spooky !. Despite that I'm quite impressed and grateful for your efforts, and I have to say that it's now very deserving of another
