Folding Bulwark????!
Thank you. I have indeed scrolled to that and it is the file that downloaded without telling me it was or had so.
In the index page 200 mentions collapsible bulwarks and this is found actually on page 212 in the pdf. it seems to refer to
lifeboat
s and albeit a few pages several are blocked from view as are some of the drawings. I believe it said one has to be a member in order to see those pages.
I don't think that the information concerns the ship's bulwark but rather the side of a ship's
lifeboat
.
What was it that you read?
Am I yet in the wrong link.

A nice project, Neville. it must be terrible when a small community loses so many. The St. Abbs and Wells-next-the -Sea

Dumas 1203 Coast Guard
lifeboat
(RNLI Waveney conversion)
So here we go again! I have decided to give other projects a rest for a time in favour of this little gem. Pick up off eBay for less than Β£100 NIB posted, couldnt resist!
Its the Dumas (kit no:1203) 44' Coast Guard
lifeboat
. I dont know if this kit is still produced by Dumas and having looked at the Die cutting of the parts, certainly seems like an old kit? However, I love my building and the challenges, so I am sure it will turn out nice at the end. Finished length 33".
I shall be converting this to a RNLI Waveney Class
lifeboat
and will possibly go with 44-003 named "Khami" which was based in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston, which is local to me here in Suffolk. Sadly very little turns up on this boat via Google, but at some stage may pop out to the Great Yarmouth
lifeboat
station and see if I can hunt anymore info on her.
I shall not be using the recommended Dumas running gear for 2 reasons, 1st its a geared set-up (I am going with MFA540 brushed direct drive) and the cost of over Β£150!
Photos show the box artwork, plans and the included wood. Last photo shows my electrics less propshafts and props that are on order. Note the Star Wars 3.75" figures that with poetic licence could be painted to represent crew. However, at this point the model is approx 1;16 scale and the figures would be 1:18 scale so maybe too small. There are 1:16 scale
lifeboat
figures available but pricey?
My one issue at this point is going to battery choice? do I go with a small 6v lead acid or perhaps 2 Tamiya type 7.2v NIMH in series. anyone who has built anything like this may want to advise. LIPO not an option as the Mtroniks ESC do not support LIPO. Space inside the hull may also be an issue?
Another issue is going to be fabricating some propshaft struts for the rear next to the props. There is quite a bit of prop shaft exposed outside the hull, so these would be integral to support and strength of the propshafts. is there anything available off the shelf (they are included in the running gear set, but dont seem to be available on there own) of do I need to fabricate from brass tube and sheet/strip brass?

Hi Alan.
I have posted it on 3 of the national Facebook group pages, but although it has been shared all around the country, there have been no actual queries about it.
I will keep following the threads to see if anyone responds positively to it. it just seems a shame that the owner hasn't explored every possibility including social media to find his missing parts. Any further news, I will keep you posted.

Lost Tamar Class Model
lifeboat
I am the secretary of our boat club and about a month ago I was notified by a member of the public that he had found the superstructure of a model
lifeboat
on his way home in the Basingstoke area. I now have that superstructure in my possession but asked around all our members and loaclly but no-one has any idea who may be the owner.
It is from a 1:16 scale Tamar Class Model Slipway boat and the build quality is pretty good standard but it has suffered some damge but I do also have the some of the parts. It appears that it might have fallen from the back of someone's trailer behind a car, bike or mobility scooter - yes some of our older members now take their boats to our lake that way. However the Model Slipway boat is 1000mm long and a beam of 320mm and with motors, batteries and ballast would weigh quite a bit. The superstucture of the boat is named but I will hold back on that information until hopefully someone can come along and identify it as theirs.
So if you know anyone who might have lost it near Basingstoke, Hampshire (Southern England for those who might not know where this is) please get back to me.

Another useful site for all 'Woodies' ;)
Yep,I get Pinterest too, but they also mix in some of that cargo, too, which is a bit embarrassing if the Mrs. just walks in. On another boaty place people are saying the finish is too difficult! Epoxy and yacht varnish is all I ever used. Yes,if it's to be varnished it has to be well made, but so what? Does that mean all the tankers and
lifeboat
s are badly made and covered in filler and paint?
Anyway, thanks for your efforts, Doug. All encouragements to make woodies gratefully received.
This is one I'm working on currently, when I can reach it off the top shelf! A Greavette Gent's racer, Double Time. Canadian graceful of Gravenhurst.

With difficulty Ed, and lots of swearing in as many languages as I could remember π‘
They're made of a silvery metallic thread from the ladies dress making department! Got some funny looks (and some intriguing onesπ) while nosing around in there! They have a tendency to sag when the weather is hot, like now, they are pretty limp right now π€
At the top they are knotted and gluper sued to a ring of the same stuff around the stack. The eye bolts in the deck are just made of tinned copper wire glued into the deck.
The eyes were formed around the nose of a small pair of circlip pliers. When the wires sag I can tighten them (up to a point!) by tilting the eye bolts further out.
The little switches are rated 240V 5A or 10A and are for main power, auxiliary power and an ON/OFF/ON for Charge/OFF/Run. Got them from Radio Rim, the predecessor to Conrad, here in Munich. They're still around - the switches I mean π
At first I had them in a Ready Ammo Box on the Flak Gun Deck. But that needed a plugged connection under the removable deck.
So I quickly changed that to under the engine room vent as in the pics. The box you can still see between the 20mm's.
Shame about Radio Shackπ€, spent ages in their store in Garden City Mall Roosevelt Field (where Charlie Lindbergh took off from), on Long island many years ago. Came home with boxes of 'Stuff' π
