Bustler class tug
Hi Marky,
Your interest in the Bustler design is correct. I have a relatively basic model of this class of vessel, built my late father and it is a superb runner. Earlier on this year, my partner Maggie spent some time in Liverpool for the Tall Ships rage. We found this example in the Royal Albert dock dry dock. it has been painted in a WW1 dazzle camouflage and modified to serve as a pilot boat.

Model Slipway ''
maggie m
''
For sale is my "
maggie m
" kit which has to go to fund my next Lifeboat kit. The kit has everything to complete the model including a brushed MFA 919D series motor with a 2:5:1 gearbox, coupling and brass propeller but with the exception of paints, crew figures, model filler, adhesives, Tools and equipment. To complete a fully working radio controlled model a minimum 2 channel radio, speed controller and suitable battery would also be required.
The kit has been started and the pictures show the work carried out.
The size and weight of the packaged model will make insured post and packing expensive so local pick up is desired with payment in cash on collection, but I am prepared to arrange carriage at cost.
The price is Β£200 ono plus p&p if required.

Maggie B a modified Southampton
Hello to all my Fellow ShipWrites, I have been away for many months due to the Passing of a lovely Lady that was a huge part of my life. After re-locating in the Fall, I plan to finish off projects that have been waiting far to long.
I have a great lakes freighter that needs finishing, a build of a 1/72 scale Gato class submarine and a small scale fishing boat that needs to come out of the box and take a space I have for her on my book case. Cheers to All ....Viewing your Works has cheered me Up...see you in the fall with updates.....

Solder paste
There are four mast stays on the
maggie m
that I am building, in between these stays are stiffeners that need to be soldered to the stays. (if that makes sense)
Now then, if I can hold all these bits in place could I solder it all with solder past. I presume that you put a small amount around the joint and then pass a small gas torch over it.
So, is this how you use it? what sort do I buy? and where from?
So many questions, so little time π

Your Ideas please
Yes, it's the
maggie m
Shaun, brought off the shelf after 3 years to finish.
As the real boat does little fishing now and is used mainly as a guard boat, I have started to alter it to look like her as she is now.
The kit is quite good, easy to follow instructions and enough room in the hull to bath a baby.
Looks like a mouse has had a go at that one on ebay.

Is that the Model Slipway
maggie m
trawler in the background Alan? Been watching a kit of it on e-bay but I think it may go for a little more than I want to pay. I would be interested on your thoughts of it as kits go.

fireboat update
Paul, leave it in the box until next summer, it's too cold for sailing now.
Know what you mean about finishing a boat, look around the workshop going Mmmmm. So, off the shelf comes the
maggie m
that was half built two years ago, and have started altering it so it will be as the boat is now, that should keep me out of mischief for awhile π
Shaun, yep, that's the motor, they only go as fast as your thumb allows, I do have a bit of trouble with my thumb sometimes though

E - Bay project Sea Queen restoration
HI Shaun, the damage was worse than I thought, every time I am waiting for glue or paint to dry, I do a bit to it, Ill get there in the end. The next day two of the same boats (blackjack29) had what we call a racing incident, well they actually smashed into each other, damage nearly as bad as mine.
Been trying to get the digging finished at the allotments while the weather holds. So in between building a racing sparrow (yacht) a MaggieM, digging and repairs to fast electric boat, not much done to the fireboat. Started to make portholes on the lathe, but I was not very pleased with them, so I got these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Model-boat-fitting-Flanged-brass-Porthole-14mm-diameter-pack-10-048-14-/350930645838?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item51b518b34e
Pot bellied stove, Lathe, what next?
I looked around for a decent second hand lathe but couldn't find what I wanted so I bought a new one (photo) been very pleased with it, tailstock took a bit of setting up, but apart from that it has been good.
That's it, my typing finger hurts now.

HI Geo,
My Southampton is a couple of posts below yours you can see from the photos that I separated the two halves and this allowed me very good access to the hull, I've fitted two 400 size motors with 3:1 reduction gearboxes and it performs very well on 6v, I also am using 2 ESC's so she will now turn in its own length.

HI no she still has the original motors but all the excess wiring has been taken out and individual ESC.s fitted and the gearboxes were taken apart and lubricated well as were the shafts.and a new servo put on the steering. Geo

HI Really like what you have done with the superstructure have you kept the same motors, or have you changed them. I to have a modified Southampton but had to change the motors and gearbox because they gave up the ghost and failed in a big way.

Maggie B a modified Southampton
this is the Maggie B she is a modified Sothampton R T R tug. there is a video of her in the video section. the main casing was taken off and the lower three quarters of it was cut off, so that it reduced the overall height., she is fitted with two M tronic speed controllers and a new larger5,000millI amp battery which is fitted across the hull behind the motors and in front of the steering servo, she still has the original props but they are now turnig outwards to go ahead. she is now a very handy and stable boat.

Becker rudders
HI Chippy
Model Slipway's
maggie m
trawler uses a Becker rudder and the kit had a white metal casting included. I helped a friend build his model and the rudder was functional but needed a fair amount of work to get the correct free movement. The model is still sailing at my club site so must be working OK.
You could try giving Jackie a ring at Slipway to see if they offer the rudder as a single item.

Becker Rudder's
HI gregoryk9
I have fitted a Becker rudder to a friends model - scale
maggie m
fishing boat. Worked well in the model but this is a chunky fishing boat travelling a slow speeds. The rudder is designed to give extra turning force at low speed so I am not sure if it would be suitable for high speed use. Are you having problems with your existing set up? Are all four motors turning props in the same direction? My twin screw models use separate controls for each motor. When turning I can slow or stop the inner prop. in really tight turns reversing the inner prop can make the model turn in its own length. I have attached a diagram of a Becker rudder if you want to experiment.
