We formed in about 1989 as "The Boat Club" based at the Ellesmere Port Boat Museum. In the nineties we changed the name to the Ellesmere Port
model boat club
. We meet and sail at the Museum but now have a pool at The Hooton Park Trust site. We are currently 30 members strong and have models of every type.

A mold of the St200 raf rescue boat was made by Neil Howard Pritchard from fleetwood who subsequently gave away to Steve Tranter of Model Boat bits....Alas Steve sold it on to a chap who he beleives to be from the Midlands who was going to use the hulls for Kids ready to run boats at his club and lived around an hour from his home in Telford. Now this Mold must be somewhere if anyone knows of it's whereabouts or any info leading to finding it As I would like to produce a kit of this Model could you please contact me ALL INFO will be treated in confidence...Thanks

First problem.......
Hello Stuart, all part of the challenge Iโm afraid, but rewarding once you have used your skills and cracked it. Iโve yet to build a model of anything, especially with wood, where everything is cut to fit, ( Iโm not sure if that is really possiible) Fairey Huntsman is a lovely craft to build and plenty of references if needed to the detail of the real boat from http://www.faireyownersclub.co.uk/
Good luck, donโt give up, enjoy the challendge

Hello fellow model boaters. I'm new here so forgive my posting mistakes. Just wanted to introduce myself, I've been building model boats (static) for about 5 years. I mostly build my concept of a boat, however I have built from some plans. I build small models, 10" is my biggest and most are under that. I also have a fascination with air boats and have built several. Does anyone deal with soldering metal components, having a problem with material. Usually I draw what I want to build, make templates, transfer to balsa, and build. Are any of the clubs focused on non RC models? Looking to learn and share!๐

Hi Doug.
All credit due to Phil Smith and his original design for that actually...
Hi rolfman2000
I hope SWMBO is good to her word as I happen to know that the kit is now available to buy from Vintage Model Works ๐๐
I'm told the price is ยฃ185.00 + P&P and there's also an optional stand/carrying box which is CNC cut to the hull profile for an additional ยฃ10.00
That sounds a bit of a bargain too.
Contact Mike Cummings at VMW for more information:
http://www.vintagemodelworks.co.uk/
I'm hoping to have the boat in an advanced state of completion in time for the London Model Engineering Exhibition at 'Ally Pally' in January 2019.
It will be on the St.Albans & District Model Engineering Society club stand alongside my RAF Crash Tender.

My other hobby
Good to see other PPLs and former PPLs on the Model Boats website. I took mine at Liverpool Airport known now as JLA (John Lennon Airport) in June 1984 and completed it in January 85. Trained with Liverpool Flying School aka Keenair in Cherokee 140s and a PA 38 Tomahawk. Later I moved into Air Nova which was also a Liverpool club and the actor Lewis Collins was also a member of that Club. At the time I was a member of Merseyside IVC (Inter Varsity Club) thus had plenty of passengers. One of them was Victoria Field, my former psychology lecturer who later became famous as a psychologist and writer.
Eventually Air Nova moved to Hawarden Airport near Chester but the Club folded shortly after. I then joined the in house Club based at the field and I ceased flying in November 2016.
Best flights were going over Snowdon VFR and down the Dee Valley. I also flew over Colwyn Bay to have a look at the boating lake though I haven't sailed there. I also saw the lakes at Llandudno West Shore and LLanfairfechan. The latter I am considering for sailing my fast electrics. Downside to PPL flying was the crosswind component of the aircraft being 17 knots , At Hawarden there is only one runway the 04/22 and Liverpool the 09/27. I did have to cancel many times due to this. Thankfully sailing model boats is much more enjoyable as we don't have that many snags to deal with and if the motor stops we don't have to do an emergency landing.๐๐๐

The Arun lives! All wiring completed this morning, Tx turned on, stick full forward, boat turned on, esc bleeped, stick to neutral, more bleeps, advanced throttle, both props turn in correct direction for ahead propulsion, motors stop when returned to neutral. No reverse yet so it looks like the esc will need programming. Down at Derby

Hello there epmbcmember. I went to visit you site a couple of weeks ago to sus out the approach.
A great pool and facilities. Met a very helpful lady who give me a look around and a membership form.
I am a little limited in movement and your setup looks to be at the right height, approachable and no parking problems.
I live in North Wales and will be sending the membership form in as soon as I can find my cheque Book!
All the best.

I do know there is a large pond in Norwich in Eaton Park and you can run any type of boat on that pond. if I ever win the lottery big time then I will buy somewhere in Norfolk with a couple of acres of land and have an enormous lake built so I can play boats when ever I want. Also have a small boat moored so when it runs out of fuel or for any other reason cuts out then I could recover it easily.

When ever I went to watch the competitions straight running,it never seemed noisy to me ,and the pond was not particularly near to housing, and the large properties around there seem to have large gardens and you can bet a few of them will be merrily motor mowing ,strimming or leaf blowing on a Sunday afternoon.Sadly now the pond is a shadow of what it was a the edges all over grown and it seems to have shrunk in size the last time I looked at it .

W"e've had all this before. Have any of you actually tested the so-called rules? have you told the little Hitlers to prove it? Use rivers, especially navigable ones. Look into the edicts that allowed the use of a pond for model boats in the first place, when electric didn't even exist. many ponds were built not only FOR model boats but BY model boaters.
Accept nothing the little Hitlers say without absolute written proof, historically backed up. Do NOT pay a fine to someone who isn't a copper. I'm sure that cannot be right. Take the matter to the local press and TV stations. FIGHT the Bastards! Especiually when they're stupid enough to say it's the noise. Get or hire a decibel mater and measure what the mowers and strimmers knock out then measure your IC boats. Use the evidence to hang them by their own petards.

It would be nice to see a list of both ponds and lakes across the country where all IC model boats are allowed to be run. I live just outside of Dartford and have about a 35 t0 40 mile run either side of where I live to be able to use my IC boats. I'm now retired and cannot afford to change all my boats to brushless motors. Sadly I'm not into slow running tugs and the like. I'm into MTB's and RAF Crash Tenders mainly or fast running speed boats.

I do have several model boats with both petrol and nitro engines in them. One I have is a 48" PPT109 with a 26cc petrol engine and the exhaust has the water cooling going out via that way. it runs at a pleasant hum rather than the normal engine sound. it is a lot quieter than someone using a petrol lawn mower or a petrol strimmer. it is even quieter than most brushless model boats. Yet I am not allowed to use it on a pond on Blackheath just because of it's fuel system. I'm told that it's due to sound rather than fuel. The local council have a ranger that comes round and give you an ยฃ80 fine if you are caught using one. I find this totally stupid when they use petrol lawn mowers and strimmer's to keep the whole of Blackheath's lawns cut. I have a Proboat Miss Geico tunnel hull model boat and the motor screams when it's running but I'm allowed to run that on the pond.
