    Largs Boat Club
Pity such a beautiful West Coast location should have a popular boat club pond in disrepair. Sign of the time perhaps with many councils having reduced expenditure. But a disappointment travelling with my small grandson to sail his little Proboat Westward 18 for the first time. it's the first thing he noticed, no water. Staff in the RNLI shop along the
    promenade
said the pond had not been in use since last year. Here's hoping the council can organise repairs before next year's season. I couldn't resist buying a little model fishing boat from them the RNLI shop which now has pride of place in our kitchen shelf.

    new brighton model boat lake
I used to sail there in the 1970s and it is a good site. As previously mentioned there are times when the wildlife and Public can be a problem but the setting right on the
    promenade
is beautiful and you get lots of fresh sea air. There is also another similar sized lake outside Hoylake Lifeboat station and West Kirby have access to the lake in the park so the area is well served for model boaters. All have resident clubs so plenty of helpful and friendly advice. Dave

    new brighton model boat lake
New Brighton boating lake is Ok, about chest deep should your boat sink and it is open to the public, it is right on the
    promenade
. They have had swans and seagulls on the pool, kids swimming, kids wanting to touch boats if they get close to the edge(the boats that is) and once had a car in there I believe. There is a club that sails there with nice helpful members. They have a small storage container on site. Handy access for cars with a small car park adjacent to the pool.

    Finishing the Hulls
LED's are all wired but need final checking for a few dry connections. Supply is via lm317 Ic's which provide the required voltage for the different LED sizes. There is still work to do on the deck lighting which uses surface mount LEDS and self adhesive copper strip. Each boat had one side Illuminated for the show and used 2mA for the 5mm and 3mA for the 3mm. The SMD's were not used but the 76 on the
    promenade
deck used less tha 0.5mA when I tested. Component shop had a remote (wireless on 437Mhz) LED control device and I intend to use this to drive the LM317 devices as I can then switch the lights on or off as well as dim without removing any top decks. This must be used with a current limiting device (resistor or IC chip) otherwise you will cook your LED's πŸ˜“ as I found out when I tested a single LED.
