    Mclaren Clockwork Submarines U50
Well said sir, I wholeheartedly agree, I always try to use free stuff or at least recycle into my models. I only wish I had your talent so that I could do away with the technology I use, especially when it keeps failing because the world expects the latest updates which causes my old tech to fail. Still no excuse, I just don't have your superb skill set. Keep it up

    1950s sea commander refurb.
Thanks for all your comments and input. What i really need now is a copy of the templates sheet so that i can cut some new parts to replace some of the missing ones . I have ordered a new rudder, and new plexi glass for the windows. Already in hand is an Mtronics Viper marine 25 amp ESC. 12 volt 7ah battery, Futaba 27 or 40 Mhz RX. Futaba servo. Just awaiting the motor from Doug (RN in Munich). We are going to repaint the Hull in White, Cabin sides in Dark Blue, Cabin roofs in White. The decks will be left as my dad made them, just cleaned and a fresh coat of varnish. the inside of the hull is well sealed already with bitumen (original) which is still allright. Next stage start rubbing down the hull ready for the glass cloth and Ezekote resin. at least i can do this indoors in the warm, workshop too d*** cold. Thats all for today

Looks like it could be a Thames Steam Tug, I'm not sure ! I have just acquired this lovely hull and I am not sure of it's build or origin. It is fibreglass and is 57" (1450mm) LOA X 14.5" (370mm) Beam. It has a very basically built superstructure which I don't think is appropriate. I would be very grateful if anyone has any idea what she is and any other information as to weather it was a kit that has been modified. I would love more information as to scale etc. Regards your

Thank you, Bruce! I normally build boats using Styrene sheets since I don't like to get into the epoxy business. I know others work a different procedure by using clear lacquer and are able to waterproof and give that crystal-like looking appearance. Any ideas you or any other

s, has anyone ever made a hydrofoil for a model boat, I have got a wooden fire /sea rescue boat single screw which to me seems about right for a hydrofoil system. So where do I start ????? any ideas ? Steve.

    Hooben Perkasa
    Hello
    shipmate
    s. Well I finally managed to find and win on ebay a Hooben Perkasa that I so longed for. Why the Hooben rather than one of the others on the market ?, because It has a far greater level of detail than the other two !!! The previous owner had only assembled the forward Bofors and the torpedo racks so there Is plenty left to do, Including rebuilding the previous mentioned parts as there assembly was abysmal. Having waited so long to get one of these kits I am very disappointed at the poor quality of the mouldings especially the deck which has a moulding line down the middle from stem to stern, which seems to step from port to starboard, (don't quit know what to do about that) The cabin / bridge superstructure has positioning lugs moulded to the under edge which are supposed to align with Indentations In the deck but guess what, they don't align ! so I have cut them all off, the raised lip around the deck opening lines It up ok, so not so much of a problem, just annoying and reflects the poor quality of the kit. This will be the first plastic kit I have built for over 40 years so Its going to be a challenge. I'm a bit fussy so Its got to be right, think I'm going to have to find someone to assemble those brass torpedo racks though, don't think I'm quite up to that, any volunteer's ? I Intend to have the forward hatch open and will make a ladder down a access tube Into the forward hull. Have also fitted a minI servo to give the forward Bofors a degree of rotation. Will post some pictures sometime. Any advice / assistance from anyone who has built one of these would be gratefully received. Bye for now, John

HI peeps, Found this site via an ad in the july issue of model boats mag, glad I looked it up, its a good and fresh site with a wide spectrum of interests and abilities on show. I'm at present learning to sail my 'Phantom' yacht and between sailing sessions and when time allows I am working on a coaster in 1/48th scale based upon the models by design (ex metcalf) Pateke, I say based upon as I am converting her to incorporate aspects of coaster designs of the 50's and 60's, so therefore she is a freelance model, I'm trying to incorporate as much detail as possible, building the superstructure at present with full wheelhouse detail all scratchbuilt. I'm quite new at model shipbuilding but not new to model building, been plastic kit-bashing for 20 years ...........have interest in building fleetscales HMS Starling but as the Opossum as this was my dad's ship in 1954-56......if anyone has more details on this ship I would love to see more close up pics if poss!!!......all the best fellow

s, here,s a few shpts of the "Port ". She,s a 1/80 scale scratch built cargo ship of the Port line company from around the 1950, A ship this size requieres quite a bit of balast, I use water, it takes around 40 lds to get her sitting right, this is pumped in and out with a submersible caravan water pump. Most of the fittings are resin castings. there are a few more bits to finnish off but could not resist the chance to try her out on the Chasewater pool.

    12T v 13T
Hi, I've got a probe 12 esc with a 13 turn motor.7.2v p/pack as supplied by a model shop. Now for my problem, yes you've guesed, It keeps stopping. it's a brushed motor etronics sport tuned 13t, direct drive with a 35mm 2 blade prop, now, holding the boat In the water I get 4.7amps full forward and 9.3amps on half speed. a probe 12 has a 12t max, would 1turn make that much difference? I'm not a speed freak I just like gentle boating with gentle problems. even on a slow run It stops then I just let It sit and It's off again for another couple of mins, this esc Is rated at full forward current of 46a, reverse current of 30a, so It should be able to handle It In any direction, shouldn't It? sorry the boats a 34inch crash tender, I had the original 3 blade prop on It at first as I thought It was that. can any one guide me In the right direction? as my home Is a narrowboat on a marina and all this water and sunshine Is driving me nuts. THANKS
