TRIAL FITTING SMOKE UNIT TO THE HSL
Re -There are ways to get around restrictions JB Don't know about SA but you can't even buy potassium nitrate for your garden any more since that mc veigh? guy blew up a US building years ago killing lots of kids and adults. A few years back a fertilizer store caught fire in a big plant nursery here. It was small when I first noticed it but it soon got really going, with clouds of black smoke. I'd been reading about the fertilizer ship, the Grandcamp which blew up in the Texas harbour (1947) only a few months before this and it described the colour of the smoke not long before it and another ship blew, killing over 300 destroying the port, and
    stuff
for miles around. I stayed back about 2km but people were all coming out of businesses and stopping everywhere (it was next to the largest business area on Aucklands north shore) to gawk at it. felt like driving down there and telling them all to bugger off smartly but I was not going near it! About 6 fire trucks turned up but by then it had got huge and real black. It was getting to be a bit worrying but they eventually got it under control. Pretty scary
    stuff
fertilizer!. Well worth a look on line at the Texas port explosion and the one in Canada where the munitions ship blew up and destroyed Halifax 1917 Unbelievable damage! JB.

Hi Red, if you get onto AliExpress (Alibaba) and just google Goolrc 540 and you should come up with a heap of them with different brands and manufacturers. They will all be made by the same manufacturer in China but re branded by on line hobby sellers (Gool RC being only one) You can get various winds in these motors which is good (fewer turns higher revs less torque, more winds slower but more torque) Some of the sellers have the turn Nos and RPM figures for them which is handy. You will have to look at a lot to find the best price as prices range from $11 up for the same thing. If you want to buy something, check sellers rating, sales Nos and reviews as well (good if it's up around 98-99%, - probably selling snow to Inuits, but been buying from them since 2010,-very few problems ) Ali Express is pretty reliable (based in US) and will sort refunds if product is dud (even if the seller doesn't want to sort it, Al Ex will make them) If you get a free acct with them, it makes buying
    stuff
easy. It's surprising how many people have not heard of Ali Express,+ Banggood and RC Echo (another similiar sites I buy
    stuff
from,-not just model bits, although RC Echo (HK) is mainly models. Hobby King (Hong Kong) is just a rip off (was good 10yrs ago but too dear now ) and their freight prices are ridiculous, (most times more than the item which can be bought cheaper from AliEx or EBay etc with Free shipping) Bloody Australian bullshitter,-re-brands everything as theirs or made by them (don't know why, because we would buy
    stuff
anyway if it was a good brand, (eg- they re-brand Castle Creations -USA, one of the largest electronics companies ESCs) If you look at the site - Made in China.com - you will find every manufacturer/ re seller in China and you will be surprised what you find there, which is claimed to be made by others. Happy hunting. John B

Hi DG, Reading through one of the articles I noticed the following. Always ground the motor cans by connecting them to your propeller shaft
    stuff
ing box. If they are not connected to anything other than the suppression capacitors, they will act as big fat antennas radiating the RFI coupled into them by the capacitors! Exactly the opposite of what you want! Also ground the negative battery supply lead so that you have ONE 0V or ground reference point. Make sure the propeller end of the
    stuff
ing box has a small area without paint to make contact with the pond water. Although the pond is not a great electrical conductor, it does act as a weak ground plane, dissipating the motor can RFI signals to ground. I am assuming that you have to connect a negative lead to the motor can and then on to the prop shaft. In all the years that I have been model making I have never done this or know of anyone who has. Maybe it is something that I should do. Martin.

    She has a heartbeat
Hi everybody. Got a bit more done, added the fwd deck inserts and then installed the radio. I was going to lay down ply floors on either side of the
    stuff
ing box but all I had on hand was way too thin, less than 1/16. THEN, I found a piece of coroplast. I cut the floors out of that, scuffed the gluing side down with medium sandpaper, and glued them in place. The battery is velcroed in, as is the esc, while the steering servo uses Tamiyaโ€™s very thin, very sticky black servo mounting tape. Once set, this tape mounts very solidly with very little give. The rx is velcroed high up the hull side, and the servo and esc wires are trapped by Velcro just underneath. I could run her this way, but I have a bit more to do first. Cash๐Ÿ˜Œs
