It's a sad day!. by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 8 months ago
Hi, I sail in Liverpool at Newsham park. I emailed the city council some years ago to ask if I could sail an IC boat at Newsham park and also if I need third party insurance. They replied that I could sail an IC boat and no I did not need third party insurance. If you ask the committee from the boat club that sail there they will tell you different, as that is what they want, but it is untrue. Why don't you email the city council yourself and ask and when you get a reply, you can print it out and take it with you to the lake so no one can tell that you can't sail.👍

Anyone out there got any parts for one of these? I have just recently Inherited one of these, from an elderly friend. It was built back In the 1970's but It was never finished, due to a burglary and the thieves taking the last few parts needed to finish It, like handrails, front searchlight and looks like some mast gear and maybe even more bits than I realise at the moment. I am trying to restore It to Its former glory as It has just been left In a shed and not used much. I am hoping to bring It back to life In memory of Its former owner and get It on the lake, so does anyone have anything that would help? Cheers.

FIRE BOAT PLANS by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 6 years ago
Check out ebay canada and a seller called 'Great plans', he has a set of 46" fireboat plans, which he will scale down to any size for you. Otherwise contact me In a week or two, when I have finished with my 34.5 Inch plan and you can borrow It.

Propshafts by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 8 years ago
Thanks for that Dave will use the shafts I have. To tell you the truth, I didn't think It was my birthday, I was kicking myself that I had just bought one when I came across the one In a skip at my local council dump, especially with the one In the skip Is In better condition than the other I bought!!!!Funny old world Isn't It, but at least I will have twice the fun If there Is an end to all the sanding down of household gloss paint!!!!! 😛

Propshafts by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 8 years ago
HI guys, I have rescued two 34 Inch crash tenders, which I am starting to restore, got one from ebay and the other from a skip at my local rubbish dump, but at the moment they are more like firewood than fireboat especially with extensive use of 1960's hardboard to make the cabin tops and window frames on one of them. One has no propshaft, the hole Is there but Its bunged up with something and the other has aluminum tube fitted with a aluminum 'P' bracket but the tube Is bent so will have to be replaced. I have two 10inch open shafts and 'P' brackets would these be acceptable to fit or should I purchase closed shafts and fit those Instead. 🚤

The paint problems you are getting could be a bad reaction between two different types of paint. If you have a car paint mixing shop near you, there Is a primer sealer that you can buy to avoid this kind of reaction, you have to apply a coat all over and not leave any gaps and then your top coat should go on blister free. I used to restore old cars and always used primer sealer before applying any paint and causing me hours of rubbing down. It could always be that you are applying far too much paint at once, lots of fine coats are much better. Good luck with fixing your paint problems.

1/16 34" fireboat plans by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 9 years ago
Don't know whether this will be of help to any of you guys looking for 34.5 Inch fireboat plans. I recently bought a set from a seller ebay Canada called Great Plans for a damaged Aerokits fireboat I picked up at a local jumble sale for A£1 and planned to do a sympathetic restoration on someday soon. The plan cost me $20 Canadian (A£13 Sterling) paid through Pay Pal and arrived within 4 days 🚤

vosper by Les-H Petty Officer   Posted: 10 years ago
Lots of years ago I purchased a Vic Smeed Vosper RTTL 68ft plan and I began building and learning as I went. I managed to build the hull and after two attempts I finally got there and I think I did a pretty good job. Work had to stop for many years due to Ill health, but those days are behind me now and I would like to pick up where I left off. I have moved house twice and cannot find the original plan, which may be a bit of a blessing really, as I would like to use the hull as the starting point to build a fireboat. can anyone tell me, Is It possible to use the hull I have for a fireboat and where could I obtain plans for everything above deck. The hull I have Is 34 1/2inches long by 9 1/2inches wide
