I remember sailing her as a kid with the Braine gear which I didn't fully understand She certainly had a turn of speed She had been raced in 1952 by her original owner and carries the Sheffield Model Yacht Club registration on her sails 1061
I am ashamed to say I have had her nearly 50 years.I was given her by a friend of my dad Tony Garrett who built her in 1952 in Sheffield As a kid I didn't really appreciate what I had and she ended up first in a cellar then latterly in a barn. I always had the intention of fixing her up but never got round to it In the meantime I built loads of different types of models but this year I dug her out and there was the mast keel and 3 suits of sails just as she had been left I feel better now that she has been saved and will sail again
This is what she looked like in August I have ordered a new suit of cotton sails but I am also making a pair myself which are nearly finished and then it's time for a sail.I think the original suit in the picture are really too delicate to use The braine gear has been set aside and she now has radio control with seperate winches for the jib and main The deck has been removed and she is glass lined as some of the planks were a little fragile She is obviously now a bit heavier than she was but a bit more user friendly I will post some pictures of her on the water
