HELP FOR IDENTIFICATION OF A WARSHIP.
Hi Toradog and Tim, thank you very much for your interest. You also agree with Wolle, that is, you think it could be a type 143 class unit (Type 143 Albatros class Fast Attack Missile Craft) or type 143A (Type 143A Gepard class Fast Attack Missile Craft). In the eleventh message of this topic I listed the similarities and differences between the scale model and the type 148 class suggested by Stotty. The 143A class has one more difference I think. As I wrote to Wolle, instead of the stern cannon, it mounts an anti-aircraft missile system. I think that this modeller really took a lot of liberties if he wanted to make a 148 or 143 or 143A class. https://www.seaforces.org/marint/German-Navy/Patrol-Vessel/Type-143-Albatros-class.htm https://www.seaforces.org/marint/German-Navy/Patrol-Vessel/Type-143A-Gepard-class.htm

Untouched Artisania Latina Samson tug kit.
I am having a cull of kits, I have too many. It's a big wrench to part with anything but I must be strict with myself! So, first up ia Artisania Latina's Sanson tug kit. It is untouched and all the plastic wrappings of parts are still sealed. There is some parrot damage to one corner of the box but he didn't get to the important stuff inside the box. I'm asking ยฃ150 ovno plus post or collect from Wirral.

    Painting a Fibre Glass hull
Many different methods to put a decent finish on a hull, from basic Brushing, to rattle can spraying, to Air Brush and regular Spray gun Most important is to lightly sand the hull with 320 grit paper to remove any residual wax from the molding layup and any oils from fingerprints. Give the hull a good coat of spray primer, followed with another very light sanding. Ensure your paint is compatible with the primer, then if brushing, thin out your paint so it brushes on smoothly. If spraying with rattle can, use steady movements, keep your can 8" to 10" from your hull with light coats until the hull is covered. Wait two minutes for the paint to tack, then repeat with one more finish coat. If splitting the finish into two or more colors, mask off the waterline do one colour wait 12 to 24 hours then reverse the masking, then do the alternate colour. If you get a run in the paint, let it fully cure, then lightly sand the area and go again. It all takes practice.

    International Boat Show 2024
Hi all. I previously hinted to a model boat show in South Africa and just wanted to update you on our plans. With the International Model Boat Show in the UK being cancelled permanently since 2023, the Model Boating Association of South Africa and the Cape Town Scale Model Boat Club wants to bring you to Cape Town. The International Boat Show (real boats) will be hosted on 25 to 27 October 2024 and will attract many overseas visitors to our country. Our Model Boat Show will happen at the same time at a venue near the Victory and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town. We are currently awaiting a quotation to bring you from Heathrow International to Cape Town international, and allow you to crate two models of your choice for transit. We have allowed for 200 people only. At this stage the cost per person, including the two crates are estimated at US$4 000 / ยฃ3 200 , which excludes local accommodation and car hire. We are still working on that one. You can email the MBA SA at info@mbasa.org.za if you have any questions. I really hope to see some of you in Cape Town!

    Operating Hinged Door/Hatch
Update: Working hinges now on my Springer #4 (USACOE stoplog tug). The pilot house has a working door to see the detailed interior. The lower door (hatch) is hinged because it will remain open because the sound unit is located inside. Still need to do some more details, the biggest is the structure railing and ladder. Getting there. Lew Florida ๐Ÿ˜Ž, USA

    Bruce's question1946.
Bruce1946's question. Sorry. Hi Bruce. You probably accidentally entered questions in the wrong section. Your topic: "Question on Painting order" is inserted in the Wiki, How-To Articles section (I insert the link at the end). In this section it is not possible to reply to you because you cannot add comments (at least I can't). I'm also interested in the answers you will receive so I suggest you: open a new topic on the forum, or put the post in an existing build of yours, or have Fireboat move the topic from the Wiki section to the Forum section (I don't know if it can do it but I think so), or, if you want, I'll copy and paste your questions and the photo here, or kind people, who know the right answers and want to help you, will respond by reading the questions directly from the link. I hope to be proved helpful. https://model-boats.com/wiki/139682

    Mobile marine models
No complaints here. I have their Tollman semi kit, all top quality materials and fittings, yes, the white metal fittings need a little fettling, but that applies to fittings from most suppliers. The templates are a good addition, I have converted them to files for laser cutting, so far results are encouraging. The hull is robustly made with it's own unique serial number glassed into the inside, a good security measure incase of future theft. I have nothing but praise for MMM...

    Dating ?????
Hello everyone, I share Chris's opinion, but you have the possibility with โ€œsend PMโ€ But you also like to share what else is going on privately. And that my grandchildren are also interested in model building is something I can certainly share. . . . This is not a problem. Keep on tinkering, I'm doing it! Greetings Michel-C.

    Ranking
Hi Guys Thank you for your support, in answer to Doug I used my Fred login to try changing my password, when I tried to change my password the system kept saying wrong password, now this is where it all went wrong, I asked for a reset email, email received, new password entered, then I logged in, with new password, that was when FredE came into play, and it was after I had posted "Ranking" that I found out that I had a new account, this went on for six attempts, it was not until today that I have now have been able to reset my password and use my original account, one other forum that has changed it operating system has had no end of problems with logins, and now six months down the line they are still having problems. Thank god we are not the Post Office. Fred

THE MOST ORIGINAL, STRANGE AND FAILURE SHIPS EVER BUILT IN THE WORLD.
Good evening to all naval modelers on this forum. I'm about to get off topic, but Jumpugly is right. When I write or say (without even writing) something, the Internet (via Google or other search engines) offers you various news or articles for sale about it. This time it wasn't a sales proposal but news. Why do I say I'm going off the rails of my topic? Because the theme was the most extravagant, bizarre and unsuccessful ships ever built in the world. This is certainly not a failure. In fact, if it is built and sold it will certainly be a substantial income. It hasn't been built yet, but it's already a finished project (or just an idea, a fantasy?). I'm talking about the MIGALOO M5 submersible yacht. An incredible submarine as a pleasure boat. We know that the submarine is the narrowest and hardest naval vessel for sailors. Not everyone could fit in. However, it is necessary because it has long been an essential strategic and tactical element for many navies (war fleets). But who would have thought of making a yacht out of it. Well, apparently the Austrian design studio Migaloo has presented "the world's only private underwater superyacht", to offer "a not yet existing alternative to large privately owned surface vessels". Basically when the rich guy doesn't want to be disturbed she dives. We were also used to hearing news of submarines used for drug trafficking and other illicit trades, but they were small boats of no nautical charm. This yacht is something else entirely, it seems like science fiction. This submarine, called M5, will measure 165.8 meters long and 23 meters wide at its widest point, with a range of approximately 15,000 kilometers and a speed of up to 20 knots on the surface (or 12 knots submerged). What is most incredible is that the submarine will be able to descend up to 250 meters deep and remain submerged for up to four weeks. She will be able to hold 20 passengers and 40 crew members. It includes a helipad, a swimming pool and spa, a gym, a cinema with art galleries, a party area with a DJ booth, as well as numerous spaces for relaxing or dining. Optional extras include a hot air balloon and an underwater shark feeding station. Take this news with a pinch of salt (i.e. with due caution) because it comes from the Web and has not yet been confirmed. Do you think they will really do it? Will someone be so eccentric and rich as to want to shell out a gigantic sum for such a vessel? Is it just a hoax? As soon as it's a reality, if it's a reality, ready to make a scale model of it, ahahahahah. https://christian-gumpold.jimdofree.com/

THE STORY OF THE NZ HAMILTON JET
Just found this great video on the history of the Hamilton jet. A friend of mine had one of the later Hamilton jet boats with the Chevrolet V8 which was a great boat,- lots of power. Also saw Jetmark (mentioned in the vid) racing in powerboat races in the 70s on the Auckland harbour. From an idea in the back blocks of the South Island of NZ, to being used all over the world was an amazing achievement. My 20 ft Hartley cabin boat (1979) was designed for a Hamilton single stage jet, but I changed it to a NZ built stern drive similar to a Melhop designed unit (Melhop was mentioned in the vid.) Melhop made a stern drive with a forward facing propellor and 360deg steering ( think I still have a sales brochure from them in the 70s). Some interesting boat stuff in the early days. Probably 90% outboards these days in boats under 25ft. I built My Hartley model to represent my original boat with a jet. Most of the boat designers in NZ in the 60s and 70s offered designs to use either Hamilton jets, V-drives, direct drives or outboards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ3W0RBcm38 JB

    Vertical boiler identification
Yea really sorry i missed this one. I have a Midwest fantail launch that I lengthened by 8 inches amidships and this would have been perfect for it. This body of this one was 3" diameter and 7" tall. Hoping someone here has an idea who made this one or possibly has one or one similar they might be interested in selling.

I miss Graupner!!! And Robbe too.
Hi cashrc, I have a small line drawing of full size changes which I was going to do myself but happy to share. It looks like the update to the class I think it was Nos. 3, 8, and 11. A guess at mid 80s. The Graupner kit was issued in 1974 and maybe one of the longest continuous runs of the same kit ever. I can tell you a bit about Bugsier if you are interested as they are now the largest Towing company in the world, all done on English money! Roy

    Useful Battery ???
Boatshed, as I'm not a speed freak, most of my boats run on 12v 7ah sla's, some have 2 of these giving me a good day out on the water. As LiFePO4 Battery is almost half the weight of sla's and the lifespan is greater the extra cost is well worth it for me. Cheers Colin.

Cheddar Electronic gas control valve instructions
Hi Mike, I dig the pile of paperwork, but I couldn't find it. Anyway I found the Clevedon and a piece of Stuart (I guess). Please find them in the attachment. Anyway, I have a Clevedon unit (I bought it during the weekend together with a Cheddar Puffin). I don't want it. If I need any type of steam electronic control I use Denes Design.
