    Model Ship "Sinks"
Greg, what caught my attention was not only the dramatic scenes but the detail of the boat itself. Also, what let the water in was the explosion and severe damage following and seeing the water come inside the hull. What Hollywood has done for movies this guy did for model boats. THE MOST ORIGINAL, STRANGE AND FAILURE SHIPS EVER BUILT IN THE WORLD.
Good evening to all the guys on this forum. I'm about to get off topic, but Jumpugly is right. When I write or say (without even writing) something, the Internet (via Google or other search engines) offers you various news or articles for sale about it. This time it wasn't a sales proposal but news. Why do I say I'm going off the rails of my topic? Because the theme was the most extravagant, bizarre and unsuccessful ships ever built in the world. This is certainly not a failure. In fact, if it is built and sold it will certainly be a substantial income. It hasn't been built yet, but it's already a finished project. (or just an idea, a fantasy?) I'm talking about the MIGALOO M5 submersible yacht. An incredible submarine as a pleasure boat. We know that the submarine is the narrowest and hardest naval vessel for sailors. Not everyone could fit in. However, it is necessary because it has long been an essential strategic and tactical element for many navies (war fleets). But who would have thought of making a yacht out of it. Well, apparently the Austrian design studio Migaloo has presented "the world's only private underwater superyacht", to offer "a not yet existing alternative to large privately owned surface vessels". Basically when the rich guy doesn't want to be disturbed she dives. We were also used to hearing news of submarines used for drug trafficking and other illicit trades, but they were small boats of no nautical charm. This yacht is something else entirely, it seems like science fiction. This submarine, called M5, will measure 165.8 meters long and 23 meters wide at its widest point, with a range of approximately 15,000 kilometers and a speed of up to 20 knots on the surface (or 12 knots submerged). What is most incredible is that the submarine will be able to descend up to 250 meters deep and remain submerged for up to four weeks. She will be able to hold 20 passengers and 40 crew members. It includes a helipad, a swimming pool and spa, a gym, a cinema with art galleries, a party area with a DJ booth, as well as numerous spaces for relaxing or dining. Optional extras include a hot air balloon and an underwater shark feeding station. Take this news with a pinch of salt (i.e. with due caution) because it comes from the Web and has not yet been confirmed. Do you think they will really do it? Will someone be so eccentric and rich as to want to shell out a gigantic sum for such a vessel? Is it just a hoax? As soon as it's a reality, if it's a reality, ready to make a scale model of it, ahahahahah. https://christian-gumpold.jimdofree.com/

Book on that! This does not seem fair, and i would've only thought this would happen for a flagrant disregard of rules or something totally gross. Coming guys, this is a fun hobby group. Don't strip the respected member of his stripes.

    Calling it a day.
Bill, fight on, you are one of the few people who have given freely your words of wisdom and your wit keeps us enthralled. Time still to finish the Aerokits Fireboat and your JOFFRE tug, which you seem to have almost been ready for sea trials. And I count myself fortunate to have actually met you. Don't give up shipmate, you are an inspiration to many of us. Cheers and best wishes Colin.

THE STORY OF THE NZ HAMILTON JET
Just found this great video on the history of the Hamilton jet. A friend of mine had one of the later Hamilton jet boats with the Chevrolet V8 which was a great boat,- lots of power. Also saw Jetmark (mentioned in the vid) racing in powerboat races in the 70s on the Auckland harbour. From an idea in the back blocks of the South Island of NZ, to being used all over the world was an amazing achievement. My 20 ft Hartley cabin boat (1979) was designed for a Hamilton single stage jet, but I changed it to a NZ built stern drive similar to a Melhop designed unit (Melhop was mentioned in the vid.) Melhop made a stern drive with a forward facing propellor and 360deg steering ( think I still have a sales brochure from them in the 70s). Some interesting boat stuff in the early days. Probably 90% outboards these days in boats under 25ft. I built My Hartley model to represent my original boat with a jet. Most of the boat designers in NZ in the 60s and 70s offered designs to use either Hamilton jets, V-drives, direct drives or outboards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ3W0RBcm38 JB

    Dating ?????
No worries, it's the madness of the internet. I complained out loud about my old clogs, and my hair falling out and low and behold my computer became crowded with Birkenstock advertisements, and men's hair club commercials. Dammit! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

    Vertical boiler identification
Yea really sorry i missed this one. I have a Midwest fantail launch that I lengthened by 8 inches amidships and this would have been perfect for it. This body of this one was 3" diameter and 7" tall. Hoping someone here has an idea who made this one or possibly has one or one similar they might be interested in selling.

Looking for help identifying this vertical boiler. It was listed on ebay over the weekend and I missed bidding on it. Is this an early PM Research vertical boiler? If anyone knows or maybe has one like it for sale I am interested.

I miss Graupner!!! And Robbe too.
Hi cashrc, I have a small line drawing of full size changes which I was going to do myself but happy to share. It looks like the update to the class I think it was Nos. 3, 8, and 11. A guess at mid 80s. The Graupner kit was issued in 1974 and maybe one of the longest continuous runs of the same kit ever. I can tell you a bit about Bugsier if you are interested as they are now the largest Towing company in the world, all done on English money! Roy

    Useful Battery ???
Boatshed, as I'm not a speed freak, most of my boats run on 12v 7ah sla's, some have 2 of these giving me a good day out on the water. As LiFePO4 Battery is almost half the weight of sla's and the lifespan is greater the extra cost is well worth it for me. Cheers Colin.

Cheddar Electronic gas control valve instructions
Hi Mike, I dig the pile of paperwork, but I couldn't find it. Anyway I found the Clevedon and a piece of Stuart (I guess). Please find them in the attachment. Anyway, I have a Clevedon unit (I bought it during the weekend together with a Cheddar Puffin). I don't want it. If I need any type of steam electronic control I use Denes Design. Like the Gas Controller: https://www.denesdesign.co.uk/products/gcu-gas-control-unit Denes

MATAKANA MODEL BOAT SHOW NEW ZEALAND 21.04.24
Hi JB, Thanks for asking, however alas no progress on the Drifter due to time difficulty. Life is really getting in the way of hobby time at the moment. I did buy a Revell kit of a north sea trawler and have converted it to RC, I will post a build log of it at some point. Nice bit of bitumen over there. Cheers, Stephen.

    34" Fairy Huntsman air scoops
Hi Olly. If I send you the details for one of mine can you produce the CAD file at some point please. No rush as I have a way to go with my builds. I've done all my scratch build drawings in Visio which can't produce the files for 3D printing. I've started to learn TurboCAD but haven't got very far! Once I've got one CAD file I hope I can alter it for my other builds. They are all at a scale of 1:12 but the air inlets do vary in shape and size from model to model. Chris

    eezebilt Cresta
Hi Jacko, What motor and batteries are you running in your Cresta? Do you do propellor swaps when you are out trying your boat out when first running? Was she on full throttle at all or was there lot's more to go. Was your Cresta driver just a little nervous when he was out on his first maiden trial run. I am just wondering if she can get up on plane when running being a speed boat.

It's really true, I also think like you about this Flaxybybuck. When I finish the model I'm building I have two projects in mind. One of these, most likely, is another sailing ship. I would like to design another schooner (no longer a war schooner, without cannons) but I don't intend to give up propeller propulsion either.

    Yorkshire Belle
Hi Doug, Alive and well but spent most of this last winter trying to sort a misfire out on my Jaguar XJS V12. Not quite sure if entirely cured. Am hampered in my ability to run it at full throttle by the local Police forces! No understanding of my quest for perfection. Did potter along with my waterjet powered Swedish Interceptor based yacht. Nearly done, hence my YB inquiry. Thanks for the SARIK lead. Had already seen that but recognising the frugality of my heritage was trying to avoid paying for them! If all else fails! Keep seeing your notes on the site, so assumed all was well. Best Rowen

    Deans Marine
I don't wish to twist the blade too much but from my own experience Deans have been less than co-operative in the past. Even to the point of "staff" being rather offhand at the International Model Boat Show a few years back. I heard a rumour that the business was up for sale in the past year or so but still continuing at the moment I understand. Very sad because they have a nice range of products.
