    As a small boy - very disappointed that I was too young to go on board

    to the party they gave when visiting the Cape. Not sure if it was Capetown or Simonstown Dock - but I had to watch as my elder brother went , and one of the highlights was they used one of the guns as a kiddy slide - according to him - would it have been possible with the rifling etc ?

    Presumably that was when she took King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth on a state visit to South Africa in 1947. Launched in 1944 and not finished until 1946,

    never saw active service, she was the last battleship built for the Royal Navy. I remember seeing her at Coronation Review of the fleet at Spithead in 1953. She spent the rest of her career with the Home Fleet, going into reserve in 1956 and to the breakers in 1960
