Spraying Again.......
Really useful information here. I will take it all on board. I would like to know though if the primer red is the ideal colour for your top coat for
antifoul
ing, can it remain as primer only or is it necessary to go to a proper top coat paint.
Thanks.๐ค๐

Sanding down.
Thanks to you too Peter ๐ Will be watching your progress also with interest.
As you have an airbrush you can buy concentrated paint of the exact specific colour you want, don't have to rely on 'well it looks similar' from spray cans, and you will have much more control over spray area and shape, overspray and above all an even spray pressure. Compressor with air tank highly recommended for the latter ๐
I'm collecting the bits and paints for my ELCO PT Boat but I'm determined to finish the restoration / upgrade of Dad's old Sea Scout first. I hope he's looking down and is happy with what I've done with his boat up to now.
Spent yesterday making a mahogany aft deck / hatch and sub-frame for it. Now more sanding and varnishing!! Happy painting, Doug ๐PS: before you start with the colour coats on your boat I can highly recommend that you apply a coat or two of primer / filler, not just the thin normal primers.
White primer would be better under the light Pacific Green and grey under the
antifoul
ing red. ๐

Sanding down.
Thanks Colin. Sounds even better.
I will be spraying the whole boat Doug. All I don`t think I will do is the different camouflage colours. I will do the botton in
antifoul
red with a close match of Pacific green for the rest.
Good luck with the removal of the brittle parts. I will not be tackling mine for some time as I have so much other work to do first. I will be watching your blogs with great interest.

Evenin' Peter, yep,
antifoul
ing red below the water line. The Revell PT109 kit box shows it white but I don't believe that, poetic license?๐
Many thanks for the Shapeways tip๐ After a bit of fiddlin' about with the site, curious navigation ๐ฒ, I found and order two complete sets, including the ammo belts. At 1/35 total โฌ45.00 including DHL shipping, can't argue with that ๐ Also just downloaded the assembly instructions from Matthews Model Marine. Seems straightforward. Cheers Doug ๐

Hi figtree 7nts
Thanks for the advice I fixed myself up with Humbrol matt French Blue. The boat I am building the model of had blue
antifoul
so it was important to replicate that.
Thanks anyway ๐

Hope this doesn't come to late Krylon (PRIMER) ruby brown is what I would suggest. for me it gives a scaled
antifoul
appearance!

1960 was a good year for me !!! I was nine years old and the complex life of building model boats had not yet dawned on me !!! You clearly have wealth of knowledge of which is invaluable to the likes of me !!!

Has anyone got any ideas of how I can achieve the look of sky blue
antifoul
paint applied to the hull of my Cygnus 32.
The hull is fibreglass and I don't see any matt sky blue paint anywhere.
I look forward to any help I can get with this and will be very grateful.

I got the idea from an edition of model boats round about 1960 so just keeping the old knowledge alive.

It will give you a Matt finish but you could yacht varnish over the top in Matt or gloss finish to get that required finish.

my finish was matt but I suggest try it. you can always overcoat with a clear gloss matt or satin to whatever you want.

HI pmdevlin.
Thanks for the suggestion, does this stuff cause the top coat to go matt as that is my problem. I cannot get the blue I require in matt.

get something like this from B & Q, spray light coats until you have the texture you want, then just paint over it in the colour you want.
Finish looks superb, no messing around, I have done this on both my Fireboats with superb results

If you can find a gloss paint of the right colour then you can make it matt by adding chalk or china clay.
Adding a white powder may make the paint a shade or two lighter but I have not ever noticed a difference.
Test it out with a small tinlet of paint and see for yourself.

The RC model of the Cygnus 32 I am building needs to have sky blue coloured

Build Update
Hello all,
Ok, so getting closer to the Hull being finished, I've painted the
antifoul
and Water line, I've gone for an Olive Green
antifoul
, it mentioned this on the plans and found a Revell colour that suited.
I've also sealed the Foredeck now, I was waiting to make sure the Gun Motor was working OK and that I had the base of the Gun Turret fitting correct. in the pictures you can see I've covered it in a fine filler, once sanded and painted (once at least) it will give me a smooth metallic look.
I've also cut out the Anchor port holes, I pre drilled a 3mm hole and angled this up to come through the deck, I then enlarged this with a 6mm bit but did not go too deep into the hull side as the plans only show small oval holes on the deck where the anchor chains run out of. They need a little work to round / smooth off and look right.
I will hopefully get the Hull complete in the next week, work and Baby depending ๐ I'll upload pictures of the finished results.
Good luck with your builds

Chaps,
Vosper plans do not state it was
antifoul
ing black or red, only none slip on the deck, it was called "cerrux". I would suspect that the cabin rooves (how do you spell that!) were also antI slip as the monitors were on them, but sometimes we can use modellers license to make the model appear better! none slip finish on the white cabin tops would probably end up looking like a bad paint finish, that's my take on it anyway! ๐
