Hi Rick, I am going to try to post you a bit of video of the steam plant in my latest not completed as yet tug, the
    lady jan
e from Mobile Marine, I don't really rate the kit, it is more of a scratch build using their hull. I don,t know what this websites M.byte limit is so maybe I'll be unlucky, mind a really nice steam plant using a TVR engine which is very efficient and runs well at 30PSI. Regards. (Sorry it won't allow me to upload it.)

    tug build
Not built this particular model but have built Eldergarth and
    lady jan
. The kits are real builders models and the buy as you build avoids a high initial cost. The plans are not exactly to correct dimensions and you do need to perhaps take lots of measurements and use card templates to test fit the superstructure before cutting any wood. I like scratch building so this was OK for me. I do believe this is common with many plans and even my Titanic plans which cost a fortune had mistakes. Providing you proceed slowly, test rig the deck and superstructure and correct both so they match you will be able to make a detailed model that you can truly claim as yours. How about a Build Blog so we can see how you progress and offer help and guidance?

    Car heater fan motors
Used to be very popular with the Tug boat fraternity as they were quite torky and were capable of turning a large propeller. I have one in my
    lady jan
Tug. Most were multI poled so they ran very smoothly and worked well on 12v. If you have the room and the facility to make a suitable coupling, many were 1/4" shaft, then it should work well. Not as easy to find as EU regulations have stopped the easy access we used to have to scrap yards. Mobile Marine used to stock them but they are heavy so will attract high postage charges unless you can attend a show that might have some. Dave

    Mobile Marine
    lady jan
    .
HI welcome to the site. I have built several Mobile Marine kits as well as kits from other suppliers and find that they all have their good points. The
    lady jan
makes into a nice detailed model and the fact that you can buy it in easy stages appeals to many modellers but it does require some skill and effort on the part of the builder to achieve a reasonable finish. White metal fittings from whatever source need some careful fettling to remove the inevitable flash but this then makes the part much more of a personal product than one that may be mass produced. I agree the size fits well into most cars and the internal space coupled with the two piece superstructure would make a good project for a model steamer. There are pictures on the web site of finished models and if you search the internet under Empire Tugs you will find plenty of detail of the various craft of which this model is representative. I am attaching a picture of my model for your info. Good luck with your research and I hope you enjoy completing your model. Dave

    Mobile Marine

    .
    I am currently building the
    lady jan
, and really can't get too excited about this would be kit because of the lack of detail especially with regard to fittings and superstructure detail. I can't say I much care for the paper template method and the white metal fittings are sub standard. Needles to say this will be my first and last Mobile Marine kit, and my next one will be back to Mount fleet models. Does anyone out there have some detailed photographs of the
    lady jan
tug, if so I would very much like to see them. My reason for trying to build this particular kit in the first place, is it is 39 inches in length with a beam of 10 inches, with a one piece large superstructure makinbg it ideal for a steam engine.

    tug Wanted
HI Dusty I have two tug hulls A
    lady jan
and a TID tug hull. Both are unstarted fibreglass hulls and I know I have the plans for the TID and possibly the
    lady jan
. Not sure if this is too unfinished for your requirement but I would be happy to discuss further. I always seem to have many hulls on the stocks as I can't resist a good bargain should the opportunity arise. If it's a finished model the I have an Eldergarth (possibly a bit too big) and a Lady T which possibly fits your size requirement. Both are RC with motors but I am assuming you have your own radio gear to install. Both have sailed but I rarely sail them now and could use some space so please let me know if you are interested.
