New Batteries!
Captain's Log:
Well, I order new batteries for the Tug Brooklyn.
I placed the order about a week ago.
I received them last night!
Before I continue let me say this.
I was using the Batteries from Tug
serenity
AKA Jersey City!
Those Batteries are 6 Volts at 2.5 Amps!
For a total of two!
I saw what I thought were the same battery.
Only at 6 Volts at 8 Amps. For a total of 12 Volts at 8 Amps!
Well the batteries are huge!
I had to take all of the Forward ballast out of Tug Brooklyn!
Even then she's a bit bow heavy.
But, I really want the extra Power!
Because Tug Brooklyn is a 12 Volt Tugboat!
Take a look at the Batteries side by side.
It's a good thing there's enough room in her forecastle!
I'm putting the Batteries end to end and they fit!
Oh, the Batteries weigh 6.5 LBS!๐ฑ

just need cable (wire)...
Probably John, exacerbated by too little exercise.
I always was an 'economy of effort' man ๐ and I get bored to death doing exercises for exercise's sake๐ค
Didn't last a month at the fitness centre.
Was bad for my blood pressure - all those pretty ladies in tight shorts ๐ฒ
Re St Francis; sure he knew a thing or two, but apparently there are no sources to attribute that wisdom to him.

Being an agnostic I removed the God reference (was only arrogant enough to say atheist in my youth๐) Cheers, Doug ๐

You just can't get quality these days can you!?๐
The original
serenity
Prayer-
God, give us grace to accept with
serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
if I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.

Bondo the keel!
The Keel on the Brooklyn.
Has a gap from where it meets the hull.
It's recommended to use Bondo.
Which is a auto mobile body filler!
There is a lot of sanding.
Required after you Bondo the hull.
When I built
serenity
aka Jersey City by Dumas.
I remember having to do the same procedure!
The folks at Dumas. Say the Bondo won't crack.
Well mine did, it was a small crack.
which I used zap-a-gap on!
Note:
Mix the Bondo (P38) just right. So it doesn't crack later on!

A wooden yacht that I am told is based on a fiesta (but presumably not the ford version) A fast and responsive sail and enjoyable. it had sticky back plastic deck accesses but I disliked them and made up balsa hatch covers instead, varnished in clear varnish they are more pleasing to my eye despite the lessening of water protection. can anyone recognise the design? Oh, and my area of toys! Believe it or not. I have found each and every toy I have on the dresser... Except for the Controllers.... And my Volere.

What wood to use for a Boat Stand
OK, I'm back to making the bow support for my boat stand!
No wood of fret saw to be had.
Eventually
serenity
will have a proper boat stand made.
This time I cut out three pieces instead of two.
I will laminate them using contact cement.
Lets see how that goes.....

Engine Sound Effects
Hi Steve
Sure is a lot of money for sound effects, I have a Diesel engine sound affects in my tug
serenity
.
and when the tug is far out I can't here it! so is it really worth an investment of ยฃ165 is it!
That's practically half the value of another model. for that kind of purchase I hope it comes with Auto Pilot, LOL ๐
I would keep on searching the web, to see if you can find something more economical.
unless this is really what you want.

Aeronaut Pilot Boat
Hi Steve
how's your aeronaut pilot boat coming along?
Although the tug San Pedro looks unusual I do think it would make a nice addition to my fleet!
I've been thinking about the Aeronaut Pilot Boat, and I think she'll probably run for about 20 to 30 minutes on one charge!
where as the tug will run for about 3 to 4 hours give or take! oh, I can use the batteries from my other tug
serenity
!
one good thing I already have one barge built for my tug to push, I have to take time out and build the second barge
all in all the tug and barges would equal about 9" 6" which for me is a good tow.

Hi Wolffoot, Yes it the plastic hull which I think is ok kind of! Thanks I love my tugboat I renamed it after my grand daughter
serenity
! I actually like the performance of the boat at 12Volts as apposed to 6Volts! one question can you take a picture of your tugboat so I can see her? kind of just to compare notes if you will!
Come to think of it I wish I would have been able to get the fiberglass hull instead of the plastic. oh by the way mine is extremely heavy also! I just don't know how much it weighs!

I have a Jersey City that I have been running for about 5 years .I totally love the way it runs.It is my favorite boat. I use a 12 volt system ,with a Mtronic 20 amp ESC & a 2.4 gig Rx & Receiver . I am a member of a club in Portland Oregon USA . I have a fiberglass hull ,that makes it heavier than the one that you most likely have. I run mine with lots of weigh ,....the tires are touching the water as it sails. It looks so real on the water and always has people taking pics of it . I would`t change a thing about your boat being too fast...Just run it at a slower scale speed . Being a member of a club means that sometimes I have to get out of the way of much larger boats really quick at times to avoid being rammed . Sometimes we have 30-40 boats on the water at a time ! Have fun with your boat.

I was looking at my new crew, I just noticed that one of my crew members is a different scale. it's at 1:50 instead of 1:32 it's not to bad of a difference. I'm just glad its the figure I inadvertently put as the captain! the only way you can tell is its about 5mm taller!

Hi Mark, Thanks for the input I'm going to shorten up all the wires and I'm going to elevate the receiver above the deck in the main cabin also will be making a way for the antenna lead to be at it's highest point on
serenity

Response
Hi Ed, I would shorten the red and black wires so there is enough for the job, they could cause interference, same with the switches, your pond was fairly big, maximum range is important, your radio system could "failsafe" and leave your tug stranded
Mark

Hi Mark, the coil of red and black wires are used for her sound effects. and the switches you see are for the ESC and radio batteries! should I move the switches further aft?
8 years ago by figtree7nts
Response
HI Ed, that will work fine, its only the silver tip of the antenna that is the working part, that must be above the waterline, 2.4ghz does not transmit through water.
What is the coils of black and red wire below the battery pack, also the switch just on the right of the picture

HI Ed. as you are getting servo extenders, could you fit the receiver under or in the cabin? drill a small hole to slide the antenna into the cabin space, could slip a plastic straw etc over the antenna to keep it stiff and upright

HI Ed, thats ok, try to route it straight up if you can, that will get you maximum range, also keep it clear of any power leads

HI Mark, if you look at the first picture I placed the Arial next to the speaker, it's a 2.4ghz system the radio is the FLY-SKY FS-F6!

Response
Hi Ed, great work, Cant make out the receiver properly, are you on 2.4ghz, if so aim to get the antenna pointing upwards, not along the hull. this will increase the range.
Mark

Thanks for the vote of confidence Mark, I'm looking in to getting receiver wire extenders so that I can reroute her receiver. I plan to put the receiver on the underside of the starboard side and running the antenna towards the bow! advice well taken.. ๐
8 years ago by figtree7nts
Response
HI Ed, don't worry about the spaghetti, so long as you know what is what thats all, just a point, your receiver is in the bottom of the hull. if any water gets in that's where it's going, lift it under the deck for protection and move the antenna away from the power wires, for maximum range and less chance of interference.
Your first boat is a beauty, heres to the next!!!! ENJOY
