All hooked up, nowt happens... by RNinMunich Fleet Admiral!   Posted: 13 minutes ago
Hi Martin, maybe! Maybe not! You might be lucky. Check the RX with just a servo plugged in somewhere. Then try setting up the ESC according to the instructions I sent. Basically all you have to do is tell it what type of battery you are using. Then it sets the correct 'Cut Off' voltage. BTW: since this is a 'One way only' ESC before you switch the system on make sure the throttle stick is pulled right back. Otherwise the motor will start up straight away. Mind yer fingas!! 😡 Also check that the throttle channel is not reversed at the TX - like most Futaba sets for some crazy reason - or again the motor will start up with the throttle pulled back. PDF: as Steve says; click on the Icon, then on [Download] in the top left corner. Windows should then offer you the choice of 'Open' or 'Save'. Click 'Save' and Windows will ask where you want to put the file. Cheers, Doug 😎

Doug, I did briefly connect both Rx battery and ESC to the Rx. Does that mean I've done summat bad? Also the pdf doesn't open. How can I do that? Cheers, Martin

Hi Martin, Looks like this one XXD HW30A 30A Brushless Motor ESC For Airplane Quadcopter Which means it ain't got no backuds! But I don't suppose that bothers you. Attached is the manual as pdf. Before you can run the ESC you have to program the type of battery; LiPo or NiMH. The ESC then sets the correct cut off voltage to protect the battery from deep discharge. See second page of pdf file for instructions. The ESC has a 5V 2A BEC. If you use a separate RX battery you MUST disconnect the small red wire from the RX plug! Bon chance, Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi John, When I retired I one of my savings funds matured and I used it to renew the 'chariot' (Toyota Verso Exec) and used some of the 'leftovers' to treat myself to the Manxman and also a kit for an Akula 2 Russian sub; complete with all necessary static diving and safety equipment. 😊 Next expenditure on that scale for model ships will be in the next life. If I'm reborn as a cat or a warthog I'll have a problem 😲 BTW you can also get a hull only from Deans. £91.40. http://deansmarine.co.uk/shop/product_info.php/cPath/26_33/p... And I have a complete set of plans in pdf format if you're interested. Think you're right about the anecdote, the version seems to depend on where the sailor recounting it was serving or had served 😉 Anyway; the Abdiel class ships were well capable of doing that. The USN Carrier Groups run out of 'puff' at about 32-34 knots (Nimitz class) whereas Manxman still had 6 to 8 knots in hand 😁 All the best, Doug 😎 BTW; What were you up to 'somewhere in the China Sea'? Ten years or so ago I spent about an hour n a half circling above the Yellow / East China Sea after take off from Seoul, S. Korea. I had just spent an interesting week at the Daewoo shipyard. Plane had some problem with the undercarriage, wouldn't retract according to the cockpit display!😲 so we circled dumping fuel before landing back at Seoul. Nobody was sure if it would fold up on landing or not, it didn't, big PHEW! 😊

For what it's worth folks (by popular request😉) I just posted the pdf reading/downloading instructions in the 'Anything Website Related' forum. C.U. Ciao, Doug 😉 PS Also applies to other files attached to Posts, such as photos! Sometimes you can also expand the photos to be able to store them in a higher resolution! 😉

How to view and/or download posted PDF files :) by RNinMunich Fleet Admiral!   Posted: 12 days ago
Hi All, This is one of the most frequently asked questions, I also learned the hard way, by fooling around with the mouse keys and looking closely at what then appeared in the Media Gallery display window 😉 So here's how! 😊 Just left click on the Adobe icon in the post so that the Media Gallery opens with the larger icon. Left click on [Download], in the top left corner of the media gallery window. Windows will then ask you if you want to Save or Open the file. left click 'Open', your pdf reader will open it. If you have more than one pdf reader installed the Windows box may ask you 'Open With' ... your choice😉 You can then read the file and, if you want, save it to wherever you want using your PDF reader App Save command. If you are using a 'Dumbphone / Tablet' or a different Op System - I don't know and can't help 🤔 I don't! BTW: the site always shows 'Adobe' regardless of which PDF app you actually use. Personally I use Nuance Power PDF as it has many more useful functions, including editing and conversion to Word doc and other formats, and no (as yet😉) security weaknesses! Once installed Nuance also enables you to simply convert many other file types to pdf, e.g. all the usual MS Office stuff, DOC, XL* etc 😊 Cheers, Doug 😎 BTW: this also applies to any other file appearing in the Media Gallery; e.g. photos, so you can download and store them for future reference 😊 All you then need is an App on your device that can read 'em, that's your part folks 😁

Hi Haig, if i had such Administrator rights I would gladly add such a section! I'm just a 'Bod' like you! Reading PDF files is definitely one of THE most asked questions! Best I can do is post the instructions in the 'Website related' forum. But who looks in there!? All's well ....! Cheers, Doug 😎

Hi PJ, The reader is HTML5 and not a pdf file unfortunately. The reader does have a print command, where you can also select page ranges, but when I try it the prints come out oversize so that there's only about a third of the page actually printed. And yes, I've b******d about with all possible printer settings (on the 3 printers available to me) all to no avail. Seems that the reader App overrides my own printer drivers!😡 Best solution I found up to now, and used this evening to print an HMCS Snowberry conversion article I found in the same issue, is to use Windows 'Snipping Tool' to copy the pages only. Problem with Print Screen is that you also get all the system / app junk around what you really want! 🤔 Cheers, Doug 😎 BTW on my keyboard the command is [Strg,Druck/S-Abruf] 😉😁

If the program will let you print, and the magazine is a .pdf, you can select the page range on the print menu. If not, one thing that has worked for me is to do a "Print Screen command," (Ctrl PrtScn) and paste into a document, such as Word.

Shouldn't make any difference John! The 'Save or Open' Window box (!) comes from the operating system of your device. The box includes an 'Open with' option drop down box which displays the PDF handling programs available on the device. What are you using? PC or Dumbphone? Cheers, Doug 😎 PS Nuance is NOT free like Adobe Reader, but much better 👍 BTW; if you install Nuance Power PDF and uninstall Adobe Reader all your pdf files will automatically be opened by Nuance!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear! How many times have I explained this 😲 (So often I copied the text into a Wordpad file 😁) All you have to do is Just left click on the Adobe icon so the Media Gallery opens with the larger icon. Left click on [Download], top left corner of the media gallery window. Windows will then ask you if you want to Save or Open the file. left click 'Open', your pdf reader will open it. You can then save it to wherever you want. If you are using a 'Dumbphone' - I don't know🤔 I don't! BTW: I use Nuance Power PDF, much more versatile than Adobe and without the security weaknesses! Cheers, Doug 😎
