    The Empire Orwell
The Empire Orwell is a model of the real ship. There were two ships from the 1940s this one was built in Germany by Blohm & Voss as a cargo liner named TS Pretoria. She had a varied career going from cargo liner to U Boat depot ship, hospital ship, British troop ship, Muslim pilgrim ship and ending as an Indonesian naval accommodation ship. The model it's self is of the British troop ship Empire Orwell, she is about 50 years young. There is no radio equipment in her and still has the original 12v electric motors. She was scratch built entirely of tin plate for the hull and super structure, the decks have wooden planking, and the hand rails are of metal rod and tin plate. The hull is in remarkably good condition and will just need a repaint, but the upper parts will need to be striped and need a lot of replacement parts, of which I will have to source. I hope she will back in the water next year.
    Barbara 2
Being restored, came with a 25 cc petrol engine but will be swapped out for an electric motor, just not sure what size ETC or what RC equipment will be suitable.

    Hi Dainesh!
Thanks for getting back, I think it might just work, I'm going to look into the possibility, even if that particular system won't work there must be one that will.

    Hi Roy!
Thank you very much for your advice, itis very much needed a set of plans would be very useful, any ideas where I can get someπŸ˜‰. This model was built about forty od years ago, she is six foot long, and although might be from plans she has been heavily modified, and scratch built with whatever was in his shed.
I hope to be putting some more pictures on here soon (when I can get my camera working) but I do need advice on how to repair the hull. I have to replace and fibre glass the stern as it has rotted away. I can do the woodwork but have never done fibre glass repairs like this before, any tips will be gratefully accepted.

I believe the saying is " Hope springs eternal ",
well my hope that the hull on the Barbra 2 was not going to need a lot of work. On first inspection it looked pretty good apart from bubbling of the fiberglass covering on the stern, Unfortunately on close inspection I found that the wood under the fiberglass is rotten and there are a number of holes were the wood has rotted through. I will post pictures as soon as I can.☹️☹️

It is a long time since I used RC this big, the liner shouldn't be to bad as she will no go that fast but yeh I think the launch is going to pose a bit of a problem. I am thinking about an electric motor with a bit less umph than the 25cc engine that came with her, but not sure what? The size of them is the BIG problem, The boot of car can only just take the liner and that's with the back seats down and the bow sticking between the two front seats.πŸ˜‚

These two ("little") beauties were given to me on the understanding they would go back in the water. I have started stripping them down to look at the hulls and repair as needed. Barbra 2 is 5ft 7inch in length and 15 inch wide, she originally had a 25cc petrol engine (that I was also given) that I may put back in if it checks out OK, but I may swap out for electric, but Iam not sure what suit her. She will also need some heavy-duty radio kit again not sure what. The other is a model of the Empire Orwell a German built ship as a hospital ship. She was captured by the British and use served as The Empire Doon, under the Orient Line until 1950 when she was converted into a troop ship and renamed the Empire Orwell. In 1958 she was again sold this time to the Blue Funnel Line as the Gunung Djaiti, sailing as a pilgrim ship between Indonesia and Djeddah. She was finally sold to the Indonesian navy as the troop ship Tanjung Pandan until being scraped in 1987. She is as a model again just over 5Ft long and is in need of a bit of TLC, she has two electric motors, that I will get check out and she will need radio kit. I have built RC boats before a long time ago, but never to this scale and hope to be asking some advice as I go along, one bit of advice being, how to make them lighter and easier to handle. I hope I have put this blog in the correct page! And I will post the progress as I go along. I am looking forward to seeing back in the water.

I had the same thing years ago on the lakes in Bushy Park (Hampton Court) I was first time testing a Blue Devil Destroyer. It took a hit on the stern (believed to be by a pike) and she stopped and slowly sank stern first , just like the reel thing.☹️I hope your damage was'nt to bad.
