13" and 6" Rubber Duckies
I always wanted a fun "boat" to entertain kids during our events. I started with the 13" Duckie, and in the process ran into 6" ducks and decided "what the heck, why not".
Note: The thrusters use "Tank Steering" which works well for this. However, the setup on the 13" duck is WAY oversized! I have the transmitter set to 10% power, or Duckie does backflips when you add power.
The motors and electronics for 6" Duckie came out of a cheap Amazon toy boat. A friend 3D printed the housing to accept the components.

I picked this up from the estate of a young man. As with most of my boats, it is sort of a "rescue". It is basically sound, but somebody before me cut all the wiring out of it.
It is equipped with all the lights the kit is supposed to have, as well as a bow thruster. I have started resoldering all the electrical connections, still working through what kind of wiring harnesses I will need to build for the various light circuits.
Some of the railings, etc. need rebuilding or re-attaching.
It should be a nice boat when finished.

USCG 44' Motor Lifeboat
A lady about 30 miles away is downsizing in preparation for a move to senior housing.
She told me her husband built this back in the late 60's when they were living in the San Francisco area.
She believes it was scratch-built, but I think it may have been (a very nice) kit. Does anybody have an opinion?
When he built it, he modeled it after one that was stationed in San Francisco at the time.
He passed away 15 years ago, and this boat has been sitting in its storage box in her garage ever since.
The batteries are labeled "good" and are dated 1991.
My first thought was to rip out all the vintage electronics and update it. But the more I think about it, it would be fun to see if these vintage parts can be resurrected. Thoughts?

47' USCG Lifeboat - Rebuild
I was "gifted" this USCG Lifeboat at our club's annual swap meet. As I was walking out with my new "prize" I was informed by one of the members, with more history in the club than I, That I should be aware that the hull "leaks". Upon inspection, there was indeed signs of water intrusion (aka mold!).
I decided that before I use it, or invest any time on cosmetic upgrades I should find and fix the leak. Here are some before pictures, and I will post progress pictures as I go.
As you can see, the hull was filled with spray foam insulation, which had to be removed before I could see any signs of leakage. Once I was down to the actual hull, I could identify seveal areas where I believe water could be coming in. I am trying my best to get back down to bare wood using picks scrapers and my Dremel.
At first I wasn't sure if it was a wood or plastic hull. However, as I dig in I have discovered that it is indeed a wood hull. That makes me believe that it is a Midwest Products 986 kit. My current plan is to expose problem areas, and coat the entire interior with 2 part epoxy.
This is my first "build log", so please be patient with me. Being a newby, If anybody has suggestions or comments as to how I should proceed I appreciate any advice ... but please be kind.

You are correct. I found this info from "Mr. Google":

Sorry to hear your travels introduced Covid to you.
I hope the medication is effective for you.
Contracting an illness while travelling is always a concern, as one is exposed to so many opportunities for exposure.
Air travel, where you are sitting in an enclosed environment breathing the recycled air from 100's of fellow passengers for many hours, always concerns me.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry if I am the member you are referring to.
I put them in the "Animals and Nature" section which is in the "non-hobby chat" section, because many of them (although admittedly not all) were scenery/nature pics.
That section seemed to have other similar posts.
If they were unacceptable, I apologize.

Chris,
Thank you for the kind words. Your TT is a sharp car as well.
I think I only spotted one Fiat in the group. But ... there were SO many cars one couldn't see them all. I heard there were a total of 6 25th Anniversary Edition cars like mine registered, but only saw two others.
There were 14-19 different group drives on Friday and Saturday of the event, so we were scattered all throughout the countryside surrounding Ottawa.
My wife and I were on the road a total of 18 days (4025.4 miles or 6478.25Km), as we drove down to West Virginia to visit our daughter and family after the Canada event. I averaged 33.64 MPG (14.30Km/L) for the trip, which I was quite pleased with.
And, you are spot on with the luggage space. Miatas have dismally small trunks. We had stuff behind the seats, down by my wife's legs, etc. We actually UPS'd a box of dirty clothes home from WV, to make the luggage situation more tolerable on the drive home.
I bet the 2 week tour of Scotland was a great experience! We were there for 10 days last year, but on an escorted bus tour.

The 25th Anniversary was 2015.
1100 cars sold worldwide. 115 in the US (for some reason, the UK got a disproportionate 750!).
Soul Red with Black power retractable hardtop, and "special color" charcoal wheels.
The picture on the car ferry is taken from the drivers seat of mine.

Doug, I've had 3 MX-5 Miatas. A1990, 2008, and now this 2015 25th Anniversary Edition. To me, they will always be called Miata. Great little cars, as long as you remember to pack like you are on a motorcycle (we have previous experience).
Jump, yes, we have been blessed with excellent weather most days of the trip. AND, yes, we did enjoy some wine tasting (a couple of the pictures I posted were from wine tasting).
Ron, try as we did, the meetup couldn't be fit in. We were travelling with a group, and you had "Grandpa Duty". Hopefully some day we can make it happen.

Lewz,
I believe there is a place for both Model kits and RTR in the hobby. I have an Aquacraft Fire Rescue, Bristol Bay, Cajun Commander Airboat, Atlantic Tug, as well as Kyosho Jetski, Surfer Dude, and Streamliner.
These are all in my harbor alongside my kit-built boats.
Several Club members have the Proboat Horizon Harbor Tug, which they use as a rescue boat.
If being able to buy an RTR boat gets people into RC boating, I say, "Why not?"

Jumpugly & Ronald,
I have toured both Taliesin in Wisconsin and Taliesin West, as well as a couple of Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes and the Gas Station in Cloquet MN.
As a youth, I had a friend who lived in a FLW house. At that time in my life I just thought it was some weirdly designed house. Looking back, I certainly now appreciate what a beautiful home it was.
Wright was most definitely a visionary and leading-edge architect.
The house I currently live in was designed by a gentleman who incorporated a lot of Wright's concepts in his house designs.

Nickstream,
Yes, they do exist, and some really do overreach reasonable authority.
Where I live we have a POA (Property Owners Association), and I am actually on the Board.
Our POA is pretty low key, we maintain the Boat Landings, we have a common area for residents which has a playset for the kiddies, a picnic pavilion, and a dual purpose Tennis/Pickleball court.
OH, and we sponsor events such as a neighborhood "Summer Fun Days", a "Christmas in July" party, and a neighborhood "Progressive Dinner" followed by a party at one neighbors house every December.
However, I have some cousins living in a popular Phoenix AZ suburb with what I consider an overbearing HOA. They tell you what color rock you can have for a yard. What color to paint your house and how often. You cannot have your garage door open if you are not in the garage. They dictate what plants you can have in your yard and where they are to be placed. The list goes on and on. I couldn't live there.
And, yes, many of the overly righteous HOA are run by "Karens" who fit the stereotype to a tee.
It's a strange time we live in ....

I'd like to join in on this conversation. Alessandro gave 3 categories of 3D printer people. I guess I am in a 4th category. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted, but no 3D printer or CAD capabilities. I DO, however, have a young friend who does. I approached him last week with my concept and some pictures, explaining what I wanted to achieve.
I had two Midwest Boothbay Lobster Boats and intended to modify one of them into a "Tour Boat" that I had seen a version of.
My friend jumped at the challenge. I am attaching pictures of the before and after. A lot of 3D pieces were created for this transformation. I believe 3D printing definitely has a place in modeling.
Dave B
PS "Centennial Lakes Park" is our club's home pond, so I thought "Centennial Tours" was appropriate signage.

Alessandro,
The steam-powered boat and its two pictured sister boats are all scratch-built by a club member.
He has a friend in Norway who has a full-sized boat that the Sunita (the bottom of the 3 in the picture) is an exact model of.
The 3 boats use the same hull, and represent the variations of that boat/hull that are popular in Norway.
Each boat is built true to the original, down to the 1200 tiny brass rivets holding the lapstrake planking on.
He has done a masterful job creating these boats.
Dick can be seen in several of the pictures; he is the older gentleman in a blue shirt, seen talking to spectators about his boats. Dick is in his mid-nineties and is as spry and quick-witted as most 30-year-olds. He is on his feet all day explaining in detail his boats to anybody who shows interest.
