Yes. Typically comes up from the drive but this is reduced by loads of marine grease. During operation, the other issue is water coming in from the rear hatch. Many ways to help โreduceโ but seems unstoppable. The only way to absolutely proof it is to seal it closed defeating the purpose of having it removable. The Midwest adds a raised lip on the deck around the inner hatch to help prevent water but both Midwest and proboat have the same issue. The proboat cuts the water more aggressively and in doing so, funnels water towards the rear deck. I noticed this during slow motion filming of the boat. Another area is the rudder shafts. All this being said, Iโve run pretty aggressively with my builds and tried many ways to slow the water getting in but even still, itโs not enough to sink it. You can tell when the water weights it down. Itโs at that time I bring it in and give it a drain.

Iโve built a couple 47โ MLBs- one modified and the other bone stock.
Build logs are in detail on RC groups website with tons of photos.
Or google Search these titles:
โProboat 47' MLB US Coast Guard rebuild of the motor lifeboatโ
And the other is the stock older proboat complete rebuild:
โShould I destroy my Proboat 47' MLB USCG? Reconstruction starts at ground zeroโ

Be careful with the CD cases, they can shatter. I have a plastics place nearby me so Iโm lucky. I can get clear lexan sheets.
Those colors look great. Fantastic job๐

My few rebuilds underway ๐
Slow and steady wind the race I guess. It will be nice when they all come together close to the same time
Enjoy seeing everyone elseโs building here too - confidence builder.

That thing is a beast! Good luck and enjoy refurbishing it. Itโs harder than the build itself sometimes but with challenges comes great rewards.

Would love it for the marina Iโm constructing but the cost to ship to California would equal that of building the real thing in full scale. Beautifully done!

๐ Fresh or Salt....

I treat salt water runs a bit more aggressively than water but really both should be the same detail. I typically pull the drive shaft and hose it out with fresh water, same with rudder shaft and regrease with marine grade. The rest gets a fresh water rinse and a dry. Pretty much all that needs to be done with my sailies and scalies when they hit salt water.

When I do my planking I start in the center and work outward equally. Maybe itโs because I do the yin/yang thing (need more balance in life). But it works for me.

Got it. So something like this? Looks like that could certainly work. Fast assembly too. I like it! ๐

No- the docks need to be transported to and from the lakes. (Bummer). In dock building I have made 3. Iโve used various types of ways to connect the dock pieces to make it as simple as possible (hook and pin- but if someone throws a wake close they can come off) to screw pins (that work great but take time to assemble/disassemble). The new idea will take a bit of manufacturing and installing but quite simply, drop pins is the best way to explain it. Material has been the second part of the undertaking. Originally, the pictures of the docks are wood with styrofoam under to float it and each fiberglass wrapped. But itโs costly. As is wood nowadays. And wood warps after time.

Winch can be rigged a few different ways. Some winch spools run a trolley that you attach the sail line to whilst others are just direct drive (spoiling it up and running it out the rear loop). But that last way needs some sort of cord retainer or it will unspool freely when there is no load. Which might be missing on yours. In that case, either get a new spool or use a long servo arm๐คGood luck

Trev- check this out- we are currently designing another marina (about 150% bigger than this one, that will attach to the old section) I think it will hold 17+5+5. Itโs due for operation 2024. Will accommodate larger long war ships to smaller boats.
Should be fun. Experimenting with modular construction and trying new designs on attaching the dock pieces.hopefully it will be something like never tried.

Usually around 1:20 - 1:24 scale on average. But we have had larger and smaller scales run with us too. Good question. ๐
