I would go with 540 or 550 motors. Try them out. If you need more power, swap them out.

๐Ÿ“ Help Please I'm looking for plans for a Coast Guard 47 MLB made by "Coast Guard Models" I believe it

Sad to hear that Coast Guard Models went away a few years ago. I dealt with CAPT Mergens a lot on plans and decals; we traded some modeling techniques. You can find most pictures of the 47'MLB online. That is my next model to build. I'm currently building at 41'UTB and a 44'MLB.

๐Ÿ“ Can anybody lend some insight about this boat?

There was a gentleman out of Illinois that used to have the business, Coast Guard Models. He sold various models kits, hulls, plans, decals and custom lettering regarding all Coast Guard small boat and cutters.

I haven't heard from him in years and do not know if he has passed or not.

The strip planking will take up most of your building time. Just do one plank at a time on either side so the frame doesn't get skewed or twisted. Use 1/8" x 1/2" balsa wood. Once it is all planked, epoxy the inside of the hull, let it try, then sand the outside smooth. I have built several.

I am new to this group. I am so glad to see a Lumba Lumba model being restored. I received a partial built model over 30 years ago. I was painted with model paint. I scraped off the paint not knowing what the hell I was doing. My plan was to fiberglass it and I put it to the side until the weather got warmer. Years..decades later, I found it still in storage but in bad shape. I'm glad to see the photos of before and after as it is my plan to switch it over to twin drive. Maybe I can start back on it this winter.

While some of my models came with crew, I find it difficult to find figures in 1/16 scale. I build RC USCG small boats. I have a 41' UTB and a 44' MLB in progress. I do needa crew for these.
